This was great. I found this when you posted your last chapter in this series. I have never read a Legolas/Eowyn love story and it was wonderful. I am going onto the next one now.

    Regarding Chapter One.

I found this series of stories quite by accident, then found myself utterly hooked on their plots and various original characters; so, I thought I would go back and give them the reviews they rightfully earned!

I love how your opening paragraph sets the scene so perfectly, but with so few words! I can imagine the work that has gone into the preparation – I can ‘see’ elves up ladders hanging garlands and laughing and joking as they work. Already I have a feeling that this new Elven land is happy and peaceful, and I’ve only read the first paragraph!

I also love how Legolas is genuinely nervous – in the books, films and fanfiction he is always perfectly in control and appears fearless – you’ve made him so much more accessible to the reader, he isn’t such a perfect and “demi-god” that is inaccessible to us mere mortals… just a few words makes him so 3D and, dare I say it? Human.

Another aspect I adore, is that you are showing more than the ‘upper crust’ of the Elves. Readers are used to Princes, Kings, Queens, Warriors – but you show us the every day Elves who keep things running, the workforce who maintain the kingdoms. But, it is such a sad thought that someone could be a servant for millennia without promotion! But, in my idealistic mind, the Elves are kind to their staff, and it wouldn’t be such a hardship to be a maid.

The vase of red roses has me slightly puzzled, I’d never thought of Elves cutting blooms from a plant – I can imagine the plant screaming in pain and cursing the gardener Lol!

I wonder weather Legolas is aware that most of the female (and some of the male) population want to tie him to his own bed and ravish him?! Does he realise what affect he has on the poor lady Elves? Though, I’m glad he’s an honest Elf and doesn’t take advantage of his celebrity status!

The Ceremony Mistress’s actions are rather clinical, infact they remind me of a doctor who’s just viewing the organ in question as just another body part for inspection. She’s probably fed up of doing it – she’s had to do the same thing to Thranduiel for… how long? Three thousand years? And I guess that Thranduiel might be somewhat depressed at this time of the year with his wife dead.

I just want to hug Legolas when he speaks of the sea! I don’t pity him, as such, but I do want to comfort him and tell him everything will be alright? Does that make me strange? A warrior that can easily take care of himself (and an army of orcs), and I want to cuddle him?

The advisor chose the women – 12 of them unmarried; are the people of this new Elven land wanting a Queen for their King and are trying to speed things up a bit?

I find it highly amusing that Angaráto thinks he can influence the ritual – how the heck does he expect to influence the Valar? It just made me snort when he could bribe Legolas to perform the ceremony with his daughter!

The learning Ceremony Mistress seems to be a genuinely kind person, who wants to learn and perform the ceremony for the right reasons – as a celebration; rather in the mechanical manor the older woman is doing. Perhaps a ceremony celebrating new life needs spicing up with a fresh idea once in a while?

A WONDERFUL FIRST CHAPTER – and this chapter alone had me snared, I’ve read all of your other work, and look forward to more in the future!

    Kind Regards,
    Utopia.
