Well, it is pretty much confirmed now that Fourth Age Legolas is blind. And what a horrible fate to imagine! Deserted by the other Elves, barred from Valinor (why? an oath?), and sightless until the very end of Arda. It is all too horrible to contemplate.

The only question now, I guess, is who was the culprit. I am guessing that it watherther Men - Legolas obviously has good reason to fear them so something awful happened - or else vile Thranduil. After the other depraved revelations, I really wouldn't put it past him. Rotten rat bastard!

I truly hope that this is ultimately going to have something approaching a happy ending. It's one thing to drag your readers into over-their-heads pools of angst along the way. It's quite another matter to drag them there - and leave them.

Oh, I'm so glad to see an update! I love this story so much. Your descriptions are so beautiful, and the emotions are so poignant. It's so heartbreaking that they left him behind like that, alone.
I hope there's a happy ending somewhere. All that suffering, he deserves some happiness, rightleadleading eyes)

This is simply amazing. I love the structure the story has. We get a sense of what Legolas might have gone through in his life but we never get enough to come up with concrete idea of what actually happened. I really like this story and get very happy whenever I see a new chapter.

Very glad to see more of this, Kiril!

Ironic how Glorfindel is helping Legolas regain some peace of mind while at the same time dredging up hidden memories of a past life... I am interested in how this will play between them as he/they remember.

And Elrond is wonderful as a healer. Glorfindel and Elrond, both are powerful in life experiences and wisdom. They are perceptive and I am hoping this will serve them well while Legolas is in their care. Clues abound in evidence on Legolas' flesh and his behavior. I imagine they would fiercely fight against any previous written or spoken word that would allow Legolas to return to such a posionous and depraved 'parent' once such cruelties were revealed. Thranduil has clearly been driven insane by the death of his favorite son and has become sadistically abusive focussed on Legolas. His resluting weakness as leader has resulted in the lowest behavior amongst his Guards and the few Good are too fearful to assist Thranduil's tortured victim.

Your antagonist, Thranduil, is so despicable at this point [a very good villathatthat my energies are not so much in wondering whether or not he can be salvaged, but in hoping like CRAZY that the protagonists in your tale - Glorfindel, Elrond, Legolas - will correct the terrible crimes that have been perpetuated for so long against not only Legolas, but Mirkwood.

I love a strong tale filled with struggle. For me as reader, it makes that h ish is earned that much more gratifying... instead of terribly frustrating. I look forward to more, Kiril!

Heheeeee,I find Silinde's point of view a very interesting one,he had known Legolas'older brother and had seen his love for Legolas,but still he's under the influence of his king's rules.I hope one day he will be able to hug Legolas with all his heart.

Anyway,I didn't know Thranduil had another son;I find it very *disturbing*,U know that???I mean...I HATE Thranduil in this fic,he's my favourite character,but here I HATE him...grrrrr........

Wow! Everapteapter I read either has me crying or near to tears, and I don't tend to be overly emotional when it comes to this stuff. I love the referance to Legolas in Gondolin. Does that mean Glorfindel would have some former knowledge of him from that time? Or perhaps there was already some referance to that and I missed it. Well, keep it coming and I only pray that there is a happy ending somewhere. Poor Legolas!

Heheee,dark on not,your fiction is becoming more and more beautiful,many thanx to your talent at writing,of course! ;) I like a lot the latest chapter,all that cloak that Glorfindel keep putting on Legolas is just TOO sweet!AhAhAhhhh...it's a little particoular in the story,I know,but little particoulars make the story more beautiful!

I'm afraid tyou you are starting to lose me with this latest chapter.

First of all, you totally g ove over that "whore" carving. Certainly Glorfindel and Lindir (if not Elrond) would have seen it when attending to Legolas' wounds. Having them miss it, or ignoring their reaction, borders on a major plothole to me.

Secondly, I frankly am finding it hard to swallow that "our" Legolas is also the Legolas of Gondolin. There is no hint that he is that old in canon. And seeminglyu hau have him already disgraced at that point in time, and in exile. Also, there were hints that Greenwood the Great was already in shadow then - yet canonically it did earn the name 'Mirkwood' until after the Third Age had begun.

This was a reasonably good (if angsty) story up until now, but this latest twist seems unnecessary (in addition to being somewhat unbelievable).

Hi,

I've only very recently started to read this story, but I've been hopelessly caught in its clutches. This fic takes angst to whole new levles. It's amazing how Legolas' life just keeps turning worst. It's not a critic, mind you. I actualy admire your ability to continuously increase Legolas' suffering whithout never making it seem as an excess. That is to say, that in your universe it is all completely justified, because such evilness can be true and becasue Legolas' is destined by his very being to endure. For him there's no other way of living than acceptance of life, and that's what true honour means, opoose to Thranduil (and I would daresay his wife) who has none.

The opposition between Imladris and Mirkwood is outstanding, and I think the Dark Wood is not dark in itself (the way it aids and loves Legolas is proof of that), but rather it is contaminated from the inside: by its King and its inhabitants that are just as guilty of what happens to Legolas.

I have to confess I'm intrigued by Legolas' brothers. It seems there are two, and that the one who was killed was older than Legolas. Also, at the beginning it was mentioned that Legolas' mother departed after he was born. So, that leaves the question of who's the mother of the third and younger brother. I've my suspicions: the way Elrond says Legolas looks at his brother; the mysterious curse that Thranduil says he will put to good use, and that drove Legolas' mother away as if her child was a monster; and the mention of mpreg in the oppening notes. So, I don't doubt that the other prince is Legolas' brother, but I'm thinking that he's also more than his brother, and that Thranduil perversions run deeper than we have seen...

Anyway, kudos for a magnificent and beautifully written story. It's a delight to read it, and I can only hope that things end well for our favorite blonde elf.

A variety of thoughts on this latest chapter.

You use a great deal of description in Legolas' internal life, but tend to leave odd gaps here and there with respect to real time life. Last chapter, it was how did Legolas get his hands on a sword? (You still didn't answer that - and I would have thought that the orcs would notice!) This chapter, I was befuddled by Legolas' hands being held up and tied/bound... but there was no explicit mention of them being in a dungeon cell with hooks or anything to bind his hands to! Really, I thought the prisoners were just in a random room. So I was left with this mental image throughout of Legolas' arms being stretched high, but more in a sort of hypnotized state than in real physical bondage. It was only when Glorfindel released him that it sunk in that yes, there must have been something there to hold his hands in place. Or, more accurately, there *should* have been something there - but you never mentioned it! You never described it! And if you didn't write it, then it didn't happen. Continuity counts!

Re Legolas' brothers... in previous chapters we got the hint that Legolas was being punished at least in part for his brother's death - but with all the time focus switching, at that point I had the impression that (in the future) he was being punished for the death of the beloved brother that we have seen.

Now we learn that all of Legolas' woes started with the death of his older brother - which in turn forced his mother to leave for Valinor from grief. And Thranduil blames Legolas for all of this. Okay, this makes sense now.... except that nowhere in this chapter's musings on the start of Legolas' grief is there any allusion to this younger beloved brother. If anything, I got the impression that Legolas and the older brother were It. So that was a bit confusing.

The business of the "whore" carving - *sn*. *. Thranduil surely loves carving his malice into flesh, doesn't he. But I fear that this is going to be a problem for you to solve... because Glorfindel (and doubtless Elrond) will both see that carving, and it is going to raise some very pointed question How How is Legolas going to explain it? If Glorfindel and Elrond realize that Thranduil is the author, and that Legolas is undergoing continual abuse from him, how can they ever justify returning Legolas to Mirkwood? Treaty or no?

Another potential problem now is how are you going to manage a loving sexual relationship between Glorfindel and Legolas? It is clear that there is mutual attraction there - sexual attraction and respect and loving concern from Glorfindel, and Legolas is responding to that (how could he not?). But it was implied that the only sexual relationship that Legolas has ever experienced is the pain-filled perverted one with his father. How can he possibly respond to/deal with a healthy loving relationship?
