Sorry I've been gone for a while...

OK, so maybe Glorfindel really ISN'T a rat b*st*rd, he's just a VERY good top who has come to realize a number of things about his adorable little sub.... ;-)

    1) Legolas was born royal and no situation ever stays the same... eventually father-feeling almost HAS to win out and Thranduil will lift the banishment... hard-ass fathers are norotious suckers for grandchildren, after all... besides, having a prince for your pet is a good thing. ;-)

    2) Legolas is young, therefore malleable... trainable---and Glorfindel has already noticed the kid has guts, courage, and steel in surprising moments. The perfect protege: utterly loyal and bound to Glorfindel, but gutsy and later wiroverove a very fine warrior indeed.

    3) Legolas has fallen hard for Glorfindel, despite all his misgivings. He murmurs Glor's name in his sleep, and comes if the Elf even looks hard at him. :-) After thousands of years of people sucking up to him because he's the Balrog Slayer, that has got to count for something. Plus, Legolas is fertile in that mysterious Sindarin manner, and Glor prefers lads rather than lasses. Therefore the kid is worth a hundred times his weight in gold.

I predict good things in the future for both of them when they work out their current stuff--Glor already seems more and more at ease expression his affection as well as his dominance--and I can't wait for the day, doubtless still years down the line, when Legolas is older, stronger, more confident--and just decides he wants a little of his own back, flips Glor over, and does him within an inch of his pain/pleasure threshold. Panting Glor stares at him in amazement, says: "Don't do that too often, boy--but WOW!!" and Legolas just smirks.... :-)

Ah well, still enjoying the story, but do want to see some more back story!

Hmmm.... stupid of me.... the *spies*, of course!!! Just have one of *them* leave the letter in Celeirdur's rooms.... if Glorel wel were willing to endanger one of these assets for the sake of a letter.... *busily churning plot twists*

Ah-ha! *smugly pleased with self* I *thought* so!!! (At least, about the part about Legolas writing his brother....)

This was really a sweet chapter (in the sense of showing some small amount of affection between the pair -- gack! -- am I actually saying that??!!), *and* it is starting to tie up plot ends. (I hate to say it, but I have to agree with some other posters that there has been a bit too much sex and too little plot lately.... especially in the sense of involving the greater community. The story emphasis may be on the Glorfindel and Legolas relationship, but that relationship does not occur in a vacuum. Again, this is why we keep nagging you about things like the treaty and the Imladris Elves and such.)

Legolas' confession/explanation was nicely done. I really felt for him.

I dislike that Glorfindel wants to be so controlling over Legolas that he expects permission asked to write a letter.... but on the other hand, at least he is understanding of the natural affection, and Legolas' homesickness and isolation and grief, and he is willing to allow a letter to be sent. That was nice. Now, just how is that new letter going to get conveyed? (Hmmm.... hide it inside a letter to Elrohir?? Maybe we see this letter in the Mirkwood story??)

Hhmm, well at least Glorfindel seems to relent a little bit.Although I still think that Glorfindel is an ...,he really does want to protect and to take care of Legolas(even for selfish reasons).

Er, Esteliel... in Chapter 29, you fixed the part about the robe (vs tunic), but you forgot to fix the part about the leggings -- which Legolas should *not* have been wearing! (I can imagine the comments those two would have made...)

First my responses to the review conversations...

Ophirianne -- I can't do email from where I'm at right now... I'll try contacting you later. Thanks very much for your response!

Esteliel -- Thanks also for *your* comments. You are correct about the "slave" comment... I had gotten confused from reading Ophirianne's story. (Too much late-night, sleep-deprived, furtive slash reading! Can't keep mad oad or my comments straight!)

I guess that you are correct that Glorfindel can't do *whatever* he wants (except to Legolas...and Celeirdur...), yet he *did* threaten those two stablehands with a duel if they touched Legolas again. Which has me wondering what if they *did* -- he would almost have to carry through on his threat, and then what would Elrond do?

I am also interested in your comment about Legolas as POW... it may have started that way, but now that there is a treaty in effect, isn't the war effectively over? And shouldn't *all* the POWs in both kingdoms be repatriated? See, this is why we keep nagging you about the treaty details! We want more global plot! More details on the treaty!

Intrigued by whatever Glorfindel is up to, that he is going to impress upon everyone that Legolas is a prince. Except... (and keeping in mind his comments to Legolas about revisionist history in an earlier chapter), I am under the impression that having been banned from Mirkwood, Legolas has *also* been disowned by his father -- hence, no longer a prince. Sguesguess we'll just have to see what's up with that. (You just keeping twisting that cliffhanger knife into us, don't you?)

Also intrigued about your comment about wanting to keep Celeirdur unbroken for a future story. (Yes, I agree that if Haldir and Elladan had him *long enough*, they would have certainly done the job.... anyone and everyone will eventually break... Not gonna comment further on that, trying hard to be obedient per Ophirianne and not hijack the board...) But why do I get the feeling that bad things are in store for Celeirdur?

Finally, I'm glad that you appreciate the feedback. Sometimes I cringe after posting... *ack* (s)he's NOT going to like that! *ack* I can't help it, though.... I'm a natural critic. I *am* trying harder to keep my personal tastes (Glorfindel ... shudder) separate from the plot/character/etc. discussion. I know I'm not succeeding... but I see that there are others on both review boards with somewhat similar tastes/comments, so I don'el qel quite so bad about it.

Oh, one more question before commenting briefly on chapter 31 -- this re names.s ths there a specific meaning for 'Esteliel' and 'Anestel'? My knowledge of any Elvish language is just about nil... but my understanding is that Estel is 'Hope', and El is 'star', so does 'Esteliel' mean something like 'Star of Hope', and 'Anestel' mean something like 'No Hope'? (This last would certainly be appropriate... and I'm going from the English prefix meaning of "an-".)

OK, Chapter 31 comments, very briefly... Your descriptive prose for Legolas' inner thoughts over these past few chapters has been very nice, and it continues in this chapter. The beginning of the chapter was also rather sweet.

Still... Glorfindel and his comparison of Legolas, to breaking a colt... *shudder*. I am totally on Legolas' side on this one -- he is *not* an animal! (Bet Glorfindel wouldn't care for my attitude at all!)

But it was interesting to see a bit more of Glorfindel's inner thought process, which has been almost non-existent up until now. It was also nice to know that Glorfindel is concerned about Legolas not dying in some future pregnancy. Now if we could only believe that it was on the basis of some warm feelings, as opposed to losing a posession.... (Maybe you tried to express this with the proud stallion/King of Rohan analogy, but that was, well, repulsive. Not to mention bringing unpleasant images to mind.... mounts... riding.... And there are those personal feelings again!)

Meanwhile, given that you are trying to wrap this up, don't forget that you've got various dangling threads to tie up!
