Reviews for Fifteen Years

On the matters that Disturbed brought up, I think there's a vital point missing in that argumentation. The courtesans are NOT loosing their self-respect, and no one disrespects them either. They're more like servants than slaves.

    Hey.

I'd like to say, first of all, that you write well. The narrative flows well, and your OC's are interesting characters. Also, you've obviously done your research regarding courtesans.

What you have not researched quite as well - or else are choosing to ignore - is Tolkien. There is a lot in this story which contradicts canon. Small things, like the hair - elves generally do wear it loose - and bigger things, like sex. Elves are strictly monogamous, and for them sex is equatable with marriage. Tolkien said so. They don't have courtesans, and they certainly don't sleep around the way Legolas is doing in this story. Perhaps you know this already, but I thought I'd point it out. Honestly, you may as well change the names of some people and places, and put it in the original section, because this has almost nothing to do with Tolkien's creation.

PS: The Mirkwood elves lived in caves. The woods were dark and full of spiders. It was not a safe, pretty forest.

I'll start out by saying that I wish this fic had carried a warning for slavery. These aren't courtesans, they're sex slaves. They wear collars they can't remove and they seem to have no personal rights once the oath is sworn. Celeborn seems to have the right to make Legolas do a gang-bang of his guards if he wants to, and from what you've showed so far, I wouldn't put it past him

Are we supposed to like these elves and think that this is any kind of good thing to be happening to Legolas, or any other sentient being? The reaction to the collar and the tears in the woods when he had to admit he was a slave? Not good.

Feanal's obvious unhappiness with his situation. Not good.

That little joke Galadriel played on Legolas so he could be humiliated for Celeborn's enjoyment. How can people like this be trusted, as Mirie had said?

That scene where Legolas has to remind Celeborn to use lube -- it was as close to rape as things can come, and it was even worse because Legolas had to smile and say it was all right, even though the dull look in his eyes tells us he'll be fading if he has a few more years of the same treatment. Do you know how much this sounds like Stockholm Syndrome?

Are we supposed to find the distruction of a person's self respect erotic in any way? Obviously, from the reviews, some people do, and I find that the most disturbing of all.

If this story is meant as a subtle illustration of the evils of prostitution, I take back my criticism. But if you think that Legolas will come out of this with his character improved, I strongly disagree. A person is going to come out of an experience like this either completely broken in spirit or a dangerous psychopath.

I love good slash. I don't mind spank fics or even whip fics. What I have a problem with is anyone using sex to exploit someone else and we're supposed to go along with it and enjoy watching.

I really enjoyed 'Lessons' which is why I began reading this one. It started out like a harmless sex romp but quickly turned cruel. It's my own fault for reading, but I wish the warnings had been a little more to the point.

Hi! Another great chapter! I am so glad that I can finally review again! Oh, no, Legolas' rash reaction and judgement about Haldir bears very ill for the outcome! I have the feeling that Halir wasn't responsible for the hurting of the girl at all, and that the Marchwarden will see this as just anotherexample how one favorite of Celeborn is trying to humilate him... hopefullym, Legolas - er, Sarnlass- can appease him and apologize before it all goes haywire. The courtesan of Ery Lasgalen must stayanother fourteen years there, after all...

Great story, Ertiam, and great chapter.I would have reviewed sooner, but unfortunately aff.net went down just after I read your update, and so I couldn't. I'm glad aff.net is back!

What a treat to find this story up at the top again! Sarnlass has failed to heed Galadriel's advice and is going to have to pay. Please tell me that Haldir does not beat up courtesans. More story please.
