Reviews for Heart of the Wood

This is a beautiful piece of writing. The story of Beleg and Turin has always been one of my favourites from "The Silmarillion", and it was the main reason that I bought a copy of "Unfinished Tales". What you've written here, to my mind, fits in perfectly with what Tolkien wrote about them, and shows even more how deeply they loved each other.

"The shadows made evil shapes across his face, and in them, Beleg caught something of the darkness that harbored at the edges of Túrin's soul seeking ever to blight his hopes. An answering sorrow blossomed in his own heart."

This is, I think, my favourite passage in the whole story because just those two sentences sum up everything about their personalities and their relationship to each other, and the tragic fate that's waiting for them.
