How could he convince them to stay home? It wasn’t as if he could just explain to them, ‘Oh yes, I’m going to report all your father’s recent activities to his greatest enemy, so you can’t go boys’. In fact, all he could do was pretend he had business with a lover in Lorien, and hope the underage twins would take the hint and stop insisting to tag along with their former teacher.
“Glorfindel? Why can’t we go?” Elladan asked, again.
Glorfindel bit off the sarcastic ‘because I said so’ and replied instead, “There have been reports of increased Orc activity. I wouldn’t want to put the sons of my lord in danger." There, that ought to shut them up a moment, but would it discourage them?
“What if Ada gave the all-clear?” Elrohir asked, cleverly pulling rank.
“Then I would allow it.” Glorfindel calmly replied, inwardly fuming.
Elrond himself appeared as if by magic, suddenly standing in front of Glorfindel as he rounded the corner sharply. “Allow what?” He asked. Glorfindel’s blue-green eyes widened and he came to an abrupt halt, one stride from walking directly into the beautiful Peredhel lord.
“Allow us to accompany him to Lorien.” Elrohir piped up.
“I don’t see why not.” Elrond answered, eyeing Glorfindel for the reason. Glorfindel bowed his head, breaking contact with those gray eyes.
“Then I will take them with me.” He said, and slipped off before Elrond could notice how wide his eyes had become, how fast his pulse and respiration had grown, and the thin sheen of sweat that had broken out, not only caused by fear of discovery, but by his lord’s closeness as well.

Erestor was in the library when Glorfindel entered, draped happily over a chair, reading. Glorfindel ducked into a nearby alcove, but Erestor had already spotted him. “Come now, you are far too old to hide yourself like a guilty elfling.”
Glorfindel did not appear, only his voice emerged. “Ah, but that is the best way to hide from said elflings.”
Erestor closed his book. “What have they done now?”
A sigh, and then, “Nothing, just short of driving me mad.”
“Indeed. We certainly don’t need a mad Glorfindel running around Imaldris. Tell me, would you race about naked, hair unkempt? We would have no lack of visitors then, certainly.”
They both laughed, and Glorfindel slunk out to sit on a nearby chair.
Erestor looked at him and his breath caught at the sight of the blue-green eyes sparkling, his rosy lips twitching as he laughed, exposing a neat row of white teeth. His own laughter faded, and Glorfindel’s followed suit. Glorfindel knew of Erestor’s attraction to him by the glitter in the steward’s brown eyes, and as he did not return the crush, he wisely turned his attention away. They gazed out the window in companionable silence before Glorfindel rose and excused himself a half-hour later to prepare for the journey.

The three riders along the forest trail paused to listen. “What was that?” Elladan asked, reining in his horse.
“The guardians, maybe? I’ve never taken this route to Lorien.” Elrohir answered, looking around the sun-dappled forest.
Frustrated that the twins had stayed so close on this trip and not allowed him the opportunity to slip off alone, Glorfindel restrained a sigh and kept his face impassive. “I didn’t hear anything.” He said calmly, noting a none-too-well-hidden Mirkwood-uniformed soldier hiding in the brush two yards to Elladan’s left.
Discreetly, he waved them away.
The elves misinterpreted the signal and popped out of hiding, bows drawn. Pulling out the Protective Elf Lord Act, Glorfindel drew his sword and looked at the twins, shouting, “We’re under attack! Ride for Rivendell, I’ll hold them off!” The round-eyed twins fled back up the trail, Elladan lingering slightly. Glorfindel looked him in the eyes. “Ride Elladan, if you’d ever like to see your majority.” With that, both twins sped away.
The Mirkwood soldiers were on him quickly, and Glorfindel only fought minimally, to keep up appearances. Once they had pinned him to the dirt with a sword at his throat, he breathed a sigh of relief, looking to be sure the twins had gone. The captain of the soldiers flipped Glorfindel over onto his belly. Glorfindel extended his hands behind him as the elf pulled out a rope. “Don’t tie that too tight Enithel, I want to keep my hands useful.” He scolded cheerfully to hide his worry over the twins.
A grunt from Enithel and Glorfindel was flipped over to face the smiling elf. “You stink like those Noldor, Glorfindel.” Enithel pinched his cheek, and Glorfindel snarled and pulled away. Enithel got up and hauled his bound ‘captive’ across his horse, patting Glorfindel’s buttocks and signaled for his men to ride. “We’ll be there soon enough. Don’t get overeager about ratting out the Noldor. Only the horse is listening.”
