Elrond POV

I'll be there for you
My breath halted when I looked at the elf in front of me. There he stood, in the doorway, his clothes dirty and torn, his hair a mess and his breathing heavy, as if he had been riding very hard just to get to me. I didn't move, I just sat there on the same chair I had sat in the last few days, thinking, mourning.
Slowly he moved from the door and came into the room. He closed the door behind him, slowly, carefully, and then stepped up to me. Looking at me. Studying me. I saw the shared pain in his eyes, the understanding. Then he knelt in front of me and drew me into his arms. For a moment I simply lay in his arms, too shocked by his sudden appearance to react in any way. Then the dam that had tried to keep the worst pain away from me broke. My eyes filled with the salty waters of tears before they started to stream down my face. And I sobbed until I had no more tears.
Finally I leaned back into my chair, holding his hands and studying him. "You are dirty, Thranduil. Go into the bath and clean yourself." He looked at me for a moment, unsure if he should follow my order, but than he rose, shed his ruined clothes and entered my bathroom to remove the dirt of his journey.
I watched him, as he went, watched how the muscles under his taut buttocks moved. A smile crept on my face, despite the sadness of his visit's circumstances. He was such a beautiful creature and he had come for me. Many years had passed since our last encounter and he was still as beautiful as back then. As fair as in the beginning. My thoughts travelled back to the day we had first met. I could still remember it clearly, could still feel his touches, hear his moans…
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The door slammed against the wall with a loud bang. Neither of the two elves cared as they stumbled into the room, mouths locked, tearing at each other's clothes. Thranduil had just enough sense left to pull his hand out of Elrond's leggings, where he had been kneading his buttocks, to reach for the door and throw it closed again. Then he could do nothing more with his arms for a moment - Elrond was just pulling his shirt over his head, throwing it to the floor.
Together they made their way over to the bed, each trying to rid the other of as many clothes as he could manage. Thranduil had managed to pull down the half elf's leggings, and was trying to pull out of one of his own shoes with the help of his other foot. Their mouths didn't leave each other for a second, unless it was to draw a hasty breath. Their tongues slid along each other, pulling one another into the moist cavern of an elven mouth, just to push the indtruder away a moment late, chaising after it.
Elrond moaned loudly as he landed on the bed, leggings dangling at his feet, Thranduil lying on to of his body. The blond's hands were busy pulling at Elrond's shirt whilst his foot tried to remove his own second shoe. After some heated minutes where they moaned and rubbed against each other, plundering the other's mouth and pulling at the remaining clothes, Elrond managed to regain enough sense to pull away from Thranduil's demanding mouth. "Up," he panted, pushing Thranduil away. A confused and slightly hurt expression appeared for a moment in the blond's eyes, but vanished again when Elrond brought forth another word. "Strip." That was all he was able to say.
Hastily Thranduil dropped back on the floor, pulled the shoe off his foot and threw it behind him. With a loud bang it hit the door. While he had removed his leggings and crept back onto the bed, Elrond had shed his shirt and had pulled the leggings off of his feet. Both were naked now. Thranduil laid himself on the slightly taller half elf once more and their mouths found each other again.
Moaning hoarsely they rubbed their erect members together. Hands roamed over heated bodies, kneaded welcoming buttocks and pinching hard nipples. Elrond cried out loud into Thranduil's mouth when he came for the first time. Thranduil moaned as he felt the warm semen splash against his abdomen, his own orgasm following just moments later.
Their mouths drew apart and Thranduil buried his face in the crook of Elrond's arm. Elrond's arm came up and he started to massage the blond scalp. Gasping they laid there, slowly regaining their breath, now that the first wave of passion was over.
Elrond tried to move away from under his partner and reluctantly Thranduil rolled off. He lifted sleepy eyes to the dark haired half elf next to him and Elrond smiled, seeing the sated expression. Elrond was surprised by himself. He had already had some lovers, even though he was still young, but ever had he chosen carefully and taken some time. Not once had he rushed things like he had with Thranduil.
He knew barely more than the blond's name. Oropher of Greenwood the Great had arrived in Lindon the day before and when Ereinion had introduced Elrond to the Greenwood party his eyes had instantly locked with Thranduil's. As soon as the introduction was over and the gathering has dissolved, Thranduil had come to him and they had sped away to the half elf's chambers. That was where they were now.
Elrond reached out and ran his finger along Thranduil's ear, drawing a purr from the blond. "Tired already?"
Thranduil grinned at him predatorily and propped himself up on one ellbow. "Not in the least." Then he pounced on the half elf.
Elrond yelped happily when the heavy weight of Thranduil landed on him and a wet mouth was pressed to his once more. Thranduil's erection already pressed against his thigh again and Elrond lifted a leg, rubbing it along the shaft. Thranduil moaned, biting hard in the creamy skin of a shoulder before moving down to lick on one hard nipple.
Elrond cried out loud at the pleasure this caress brought to him and for a few minutes he revelled in the blond's attentions. Finally he grew tired of his position under the prince and with one swift movement he turned a stunned Thranduil over. Elrond's mouth watered at seeing his confused expression. It made Thranduil look utterly adorable and he bent down to ravish the sweet mouth.
Again they spent minutes exploring each other's mouth before Elrond ran his hands further down to Thranduil's legs and pressed to spread them, settling in between. His hands moved to stroke the blond's heavy erection, massaging the balls before finally moving to gently probe the tight entrance.
Thranduil stiffened and his hands tightened around the half elf's shoulders. "Wait." Elrond halted, looking down into the nervous eyes. "Have you… done this before."
"Yes." Elrond couldn't prevent the understanding smile from spreading over his features. "You haven't?" He was a bit surprised, after the passionate way Thranduil had acted he would have thought him to already have some experience.
"I have. Just… not in this way."
Elrond laughed softly and bent down to press a reassuring kiss on the blond's lips. "Don't worry," he whispered. "It's so good."
Thranduil's nervousness was drowned in wet kisses placed all over his body and by Elrond's hands that stroked him. After endless minutes in which his body was brought to unknown heights of pleasure again and again, Thranduil could nothing but pant impatiently, "Just do it."
That was all Elrond had waited for. Moaning excitedly he brought himself into place, ready to drive himself into the tight heat of the blond and stopped himself just in time when he remembered that he had not prepared his lover. Cursing under his breath he got off of the bed and raced into the bathroom where he grabbed a vial of oil. Walking back to his lover, he opened the vial and kneeled on the mattress as he poured the sweet smelling liquid onto his fingers. Carefully he massaged the tight entrance, inserting a digit, making Thranduil moan in momentarily discomfort, but soon he found the blond's prostate and the moan turned into one of ultimate pleasure.
"See?" Elrond whispered into the blond's ear before bestowing a lick onto it. "it's good."
"Yes!" Thranduil moaned loudly, arching into the touch.
Quickly Elrond stretched the untouched opening and coated it thoroughly with oil, still taking care that his lover was sufficiently prepared. Then he brought himself into position once more and looked down on Thranduil's face, waiting for permission.
Thranduil felt the hard flesh nudge against the entrance to his body and for a short moment his nervousness returned, but quickly vanished again. He reached out and placed his hands on the half elf's buttocks, pressing slightly forward, so that the member entered his body.
Elrond took the invitation and slowly inched inside until he was buried deep in the prince's body.
The rampant wildness of their first encounter was gone and their lovemaking was gentle and careful, yet passionate. The two elves moved against each other, moaning, enjoying the feeling of tight heat and a hard member sliding in and out. It was not very long before both reached climax a second time. Elrond threw back his head, moaning deep in his throat, his hot seed spilling into Thranduil's passage.
The feeling of the hot essence in his insides was strange, but at the same time most divine and Thranduil was so caught in this feeling that he remained completely still, his own semen covering Elrond's stomach.
Exhausted both elves snuggled close; Elrond laid himself next to Thranduil, resting his head on the blond's chest. Each listening to the others calming breathing they slowly fell asleep.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I was pulled out of my memories when Thranduil returned, covered only with a large towel he held closed in front. His hair was wet and hung in messy strands down his back. I motioned for him to sit and took a brush, starting to untangle the golden hair. For quite some time nothing was heard but the sound of the brush running through the locks and an occasional hiss when I pulled hard on some tangles to get them loose.
"Why have you come?" I finally asked.
Thranduil lowered his head and stared at his hands, resting in his lap. "Can't you guess?" I didn't answer and he was silent for a moment. "I love you Elrond. Never would I think of leaving you alone in a time like this." He turned his head and looked at me, eyes sad and guilty. "I never wanted to lose you, Elrond. I loved you and I could think of nothing worse than being parted from you, especially after my wife had died. But I had to send you away. We were not meant to be together. Not yet. It was best for you. You understand that, don't you?"
Silently I ran the brush through his damp hair, stroking it with my fingers, feeling its silken texture. "I would have stayed with you. You have hurt me, sending me away."
"I know," Thranduil whispered. "But it wasn't meant to be."
My movements stilled, when his words brought back a memory I hadn't dared to think of for so long, the memory of a moment so similar to this one today. A memory that had always brought me pain…
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The hooves of his horse made dull sounds on the ground of the patth that just moments later changed to light clatter on stones as he reached the elven palace. Panting he halted his horse, looking around and dismounting when he saw an elf clad in Greenwood garb running towards him. "Here," he said, gesturing to the horse. "Take care of him. Where is the prince?"
Involuntarily the confused guard buried his hand in the horse's mane. He was completely taken aback by the sudden arrival of the lord of Imladris and far more at his strange request. "In his rooms, my lord. But you should really not…"
He stopped as Elrond rushed off as soon as he had named Thranduil's location.
Elrond hurried past confused wood-elves who halted in their tasks to look after the running half elf. He dashed into the cave that held the Greenwood palace, made his way up the stairs that would bring him to his destiny, taking as many as he could at one time, until he finally stood before the doors behind which the one he had come for grieved.
When he tried to open the door he found it locked. He didn't bother to call out, he knew that Thranduil would never open on his own, so he just reached up to his neck and took off the chain he had worn since he got the pendant. A silver key dangled from it, the head twirled and twisted to form leaves and branches. He shoved the key into the lock and opened the door.
Thranduil had given the key to him quite some time ago, so he could come into his rooms whenever he visited Greenwood. He instantly locked the door again behind him once he had entered the room. He had stepped into the bedroom and Thranduil was nowhere to be seen. Still he could here exhausted sobs and a small whimper and he went into the direction of these sounds, into the living room.
Thranduil was sitting on the ground, next to the glass doors that led onto the only balcony that existed in the caves. It was positioned over a small garden the elves had managed to grow in the caves. A broken vase lay on the floor and the glass of one door bore a visible crack. The prince had his knees drawn up, arms crossed upon them, his head buried in his arms.
Elrond stood shocked, he had never seen his lover in such a state. He was glad that he could see the blond again, it had been quite a while since their last encounter, years in fact. Yet he wished he did not have to see him now, that the things that had led him here had not happened.
When the letter telling of the death of Thranduil's wife had reached him he had left Imladris for Greenwood at once. He had barely stopped, just resting when his horse needed to. And now he was here, watching the elf he had loved for so long broken, saddened beyond imagination. A part of Thranduil had been ripped away. Even if he had not loved his wife as a husband should love he,r the two had been close friends and their son had been born mere years ago.
Thranduil and himself had had a happy love for quite some time. After their first encounter they had used every opportunity to meet and they had quickly realized that they were in love with each other. Still, Elrond had founded Imladris, and as a prince of Greenwood, Thranduil had his own duties to fullfil, so their relationship had mostly been one over great distance.
One day Thranduil had come to him to tell him that Oropher wanted him to marry and sire children and that he agreed with this decision. He wanted to have children even if women did not attract him. But he had wanted Elrond's agreement. And Elrond had given it, even though it hurt to let go of his lover for he knew that nothing would be as it had been before. But he wanted Thranduil to be happy, if his lover wanted to have children he would not deny him this, and he also understood the prince's duty to sire an heir, for he was his father's only child.
Since then he had found somebody he liked as well, Celebrian, daughter of Celeborn and Galadriel, lord and lady of Loríen. He was thinking about marrying her and siring children like Thranduil had done.
He only knew to well what it felt like to lose somebody who meant something to him, he had just to think for a short moment of his brother and a lump formed in his throat. He swallowed it down and carefully advanced on the blond prince. Letting himself sink to his knees in front of the blond he carefully extended a hand and stroked the golden tresses.
Thranduil flinched at the unexpected touch and raised his head to see who it was that had dared to enter his chambers without his permission. His breath halted when he saw his former lover sitting in front of him. For a moment he just stared at him his visitor in utter surprise, even forgetting his own grief. The tears on his cheeks had all dripped down onto his crossed arms when he finally found his voice again. "Elrond," he whispered. He was so surprised that he didn't even think of being angry with the half elf, for simply venturing into his chambers and ignoring his wish for privacy. "What… What are you doing here."
"Come here." Elrond reached out and pulled Thranduil into an embrace, guiding the golden head onto his shoulder. "You silly elf. Did you really think I would leave you alone at a time like this?"
Thranduil just smiled, burying his face in Elrond's neck. He should have known. But instantly his loss overwhelmed him once again and the smile on his face faded to give way for new tears.
Elrond closed his eyes, one hand buried in the blond mane, the other stroking the prince's back. Seeing Thranduil in such pain made him nearly cry as well. Silently he held his former lover whilst the blond cried his grief out into the silence of the dark room, hoping that his presence would dull the pain.
Finally Thranduil stopped, letting out one last gasping sob and then his tears eventually ceased. One of his hands was still buried in Elrond's shirt and it was not before several more minutes passed that he loosened his grip and let go. Sniffing, he pulled back from the black haired half elf, wiping with one hand over his face. Thranduil looked around as if looking for something, when not seeing it he rose and retrieved a handkerchief out of his bedchamber before sitting down next to Elrond again, properly drying his face and blowing his nose.
For a moment they just sat there, looking at each other, brown eyes meeting blue ones. Suddenly Thranduil tore his eyes away from the elf in front of him and rose abruptly. Some minutes he paced the room, sad and desperate until he stopped, stepping to the glass doors, leaning his brow against its cool surface.
"What shall I do now?" he whispered desperately. "What shall I do without her?" His gaze shifted away from the view of the trees outside, mere shadows in the arrived night, back to Elrond. "Of course you know that we have never been real lovers. But… she was my best friend. I can't believe that she just isn't there anymore. Just a few steps too far… We didn't even know that there were spiders so close to the palace… And Legolas is still so small. He does not understand. He wants his nana and I don't know how to make him understand that she will never come back. That she is gone." He paused and drew in a deep shuddering breath, tears threatening to fall again. "I need her. He needs her. I cannot raise him without her."
Elrond had not even thought of Thranduil's son up to now and felt slightly guilty. The poor child. How could he understand that from one minute to the other his mother was not with him anymore? Legolas was just a small child, nearly still a toddler.
"But you can!" Elrond reached out again, desperately wanting to give his friend some comfort, but Thranduil pulled back. "You can go on, Thranduil, because you have no other choice. Life doesn't ask you if you want it to continue, it simply does. And Legolas needs you. Now more than ever. He needs you to be there for him. You can go on. You *will* go on!"
Thranduil nodded slowly. Of course Elrond was right. What other choice did he have? "It just… *hurts* so much", he whispered softly. He backed away some more when Elrond reached for him again, tried to pull him in his arms.
"Thranduil!" Elrond said, sharper and louder than intended. He regretted his harsh tone immediately when seeing Thranduil flinch. Still he continued. "Tell me what I shall do. I know you hurt and I want to help you, but I can't if you don't let me. Please, Thranduil."
Thranduil opened his mouth to speak, but then shut it again. He hadn't realized he was pushing Elrond away. This had to be hard for the half elf as well. When Elrond tried to embrace him once again he allowed it, resting his head on the others shoulder.
"Come," Elrond said after a while, rising slowly and pulling the prince with him. "The floor is not a good place for this." He moved into the bedchamber and pushed his friend down onto the bed, lying down next to him and pulling him in his arms.
Silently Thranduil lay there. It felt good to have his friend with him again, not to be alone in this time of loss. Unfortunately, the fact that Elrond was pressing him close to his body had not only a comforting effect. His face turned slightly red with shame. His wife had just died. How could he even think of having sex with the half elf? Yet his body didn't care in the least about his doubts.
Elrond grinned slightly when he suddenly felt the blond's erection press against his leg. He turned his head and started nuzzling the prince's neck, slowly making his way up to the pointed ear where he gently licked and bit the soft skin.
Thranduil couldn't suppress a soft moan when his ear was caressed thus. Yet he turned away from Elrond's lips.
"What is it?" Elrond rose slightly on one elbow and looked at the blond questioningly, though he thought he might know the answer already.
Thranduil sighed wearily. "Elrond, I… I can't do this now. I'm sorry, it's just…"
Elrond shook his head, smiling, and put a finger on Thranduil's lips, silencing him. "I know, Thranduil. Don't think about it. It's alright. Why don't you just let me comfort you?" The last part he had whispered against Thranduil's lips, mouths just an inch apart.
Thranduil studied the half elf next to him, how he was leaning over him and offering him something he desperately longed for at the moment. Still it felt somehow wrong. Determined he crossed the small distance between them and pressed his lips to the half elf's, one hand tangling into the midnight black hair. This time he did not object when Elrond started to kiss and caress him, gently taking off their clothing until they both lay pressed naked to each other.
Some little voice in Thranduil's head still told him that it was wrong to be indulged by Elrond thus and to have sex with him when his wife had died just days ago and his little son was waiting for him. Determinedly he pushed it away, blocking out every thought that was not about what they were doing at the moment. He had done nothing but think the last few days and it had done him no good. He could not bear this anymore.
Thranduil raised his legs and wrapped them around the half elf's back, pulling his lover tight towards him. "Comfort me," he whispered hoarsely, moaning softly under the kisses Elrond placed onto his throat. "Make me forget."
And Elrond did. Gently, always thinking of how vulnerable Thranduil was at the moment, he took a flask of oil out of the closet next to the bed, a place where he knew Thranduil always kept some, and started preparing his lover of long ago.
Thranduil moaned softly when he felt the half elf's fingers carefully entering his body and moving inside. It had been a long time since he had last felt such a touch and only now did he realize how much he had missed it.
Elrond was fascinated by the way Thranduil moaned and writhed on the bed just from the little caress he was receiving. Elrond bowed over Thranduil and started licking and gently biting the soft throat that lay openly before him. He pulled his fingers out of the hot body under him and shifted around a bit.
Thranduil moaned loudly when he felt Elrond's member touch his entrance. Gently Elrond entered the blond prince, waiting a moment before he started moving, mindful of the fact that this was Thranduil's first time in many years. He still remembered their former love making clearly and so he managed to hit Thranduil's prostate with every inward move.
Thranduil felt weary from all the past days, yet he did what he could to help Elrond. He tightened his legs around the half elf's form, pulling him deeper inside, loosening them again to get ready for the next movement.
Thranduil moaned from deep in his throat, clutching at the elf above him. Elrond slipped one hand down to the blond's arousal and started stroking in time with the thrusts of his body.
Suddenly Elrond gave a loud moan and buried his teeth in the prince's shoulder. Thranduil felt something warm spread in his insides and this divine sensation brought him over the edge as well. His semen splashed over Elrond's hand and onto his stomach, running in hot rivers down onto the sheets.
For some time both elves lay still, pressed together and breathing heavily. After a while Elrond managed to break through the fog that was clouding his thoughts and weighting his limbs. Slowly he got off of Thranduil and lay down at his side. He blinked, trying to stay awake, and looked at Thranduil.
Thranduil seemed to be asleep - his eyes were closed, his breathing was even and he lay motionless. With a soft groan Elrond rolled off of the bed and made his way into the bathroom, where he cleaned himself of the essence of their love. He returned to the bedchamber with a wet cloth in hand. Sitting down on the side of the bed he started gently cleaning his lover as well.
Thranduil lazily opened his eyes and watched the loving ministrations for a moment, before closing them again. Elrond returned the cloth to the bathroom before crawling back into the bed, snuggling up to Thranduil. He heard his lover sigh softly, then the blond rolled onto his side and pulled Elrond into his arms.
The drowsy fog crept up over Elrond again and now, head resting on his lover's shoulder and Thranduil's warm breath caressing his ear, the half elf let himself drift off to sleep.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Elrond was lying on his side, one of his lover's arms loosely slung around him, his head resting on it. With a helpless and compassionate feeling he watched Thranduil, whilst with one hand he gently caressed the blond's exposed chest.
Thranduil had turned his head away from the dark haired elf and was staring through the open door into the adjoining living room, as far as he could tell. For quite some time they now lay in this position. When Elrond had woken up Thranduil had already been turned away from him and brooding and he had wanted to give his lover some time to think.
But upon waiting the sun had climbed higher into the sky and was now nearing its peak. "Thranduil," he whispered softly. Thranduil didn't react, didn't turn his head - just the small twitch of the arm he was lying upon told the half elf that the prince had heard him.
Elrond lowered his eyes and started drawing patterns on Thranduil's naked chest. "You know," he began after a while, "I still love you."
Thranduil tightly closed his eyes . He was sure he knew what would come next.
"I love you, Thranduil," Elrond whispered again. "I love you and I want to see you happy. I don't want you to hurt and to be alone." He was silent again and his fingers continued their way over the smooth skin. "I would stay with you." The whisper was so low that it was nearly inaudible, but to Thranduil's ears it was as if Elrond had shouted the words.
He pulled his arm from under the half elf's head and sat up, feet pressed to the floor, sitting on the edge of the bed.
"Thranduil?" Elrond sat up and stared at his lover. "What do you say? I would stay with you. You would not have to be alone."
Firmly Thranduil shook his head and rose to his feet. He wished for nothing more than for Elrond to stay with him, but he knew that it couldn't be, that it was the wrong way. He opened several wardrobes and closets, collecting clothing out of them, then he started to dress. "No, Elrond." His voice was sad, but still firm, when he pulled the shirt over his head. "No," he said again, turning around and finally looking at his lover.
He opened his mouth to say more, but then he closed it again and turned his back to the half elf. "You should go now," he said quietly, picking up some clothes and throwing them on the bed. "Pull these on. Your own clothes are dirty and torn."
Elrond automatically reached for the clothes, burying his fingers in them and pulling them close to his chest. "Thranduil," he whispered desperately. "What have I done? Why do you send me away?"
Still Thranduil did not answer, jaw clenched tightly he finished dressing.
"Thranduil!" Elrond's desperate cry tore through the silence of the room and made Thranduil flinch. "Tell me!"
The silence spread through the room once more until Thranduil finally found enough steadiness to answer. "You do not belong here, Elrond. This is no place for you. I would accept your offer gladly, the Valar know that nothing would make me happier. But it is not supposed to be." He turned around again and walked slowly up to the bed. Elrond could see the tears glisten in the blue eyes. The blond prince sat down on the edge of the bed and raised a trembling hand to cup the half elf's cheek, wet with tears.
"Go back, Elrond." Thranduil's voice was was barely a whisper and choked with the tears that now ran freely down his face. Tenderly he stroked the soft skin of the half elf's face, looking at him lovingly. "Go back to Imladris. Celebrían is waiting for you, isn't she? Marry her. You will have lovely children and you will be happy. Gil-galad will need you. You have to stand by his side. This is how it is supposed to be, my love. One day we will be together again, I promise you this, but the time has not yet come. You have to go. Now."
With that he rose, and stepped away to lean heavily against one of the wardrobes.
Elrond sat silently on the bed, the clothing clasped in his lap, simply staring in hurt disbelief at his lover.
"Please, Elrond. Go!"
Elrond finally managed to shake off the paralysis that had taken hold of his body and pushed the blanket away from his naked form. Slowly he started to dress, all the while his eyes didn't leave the forlorn form of the proud woodland prince.
Far too soon he was fully dressed. Thranduil still stood leaned against the wardrobe, hands pressed against its wood and head hanging down. Cautiously Elrond advanced on the blond, carefully laying a hand on one trembling arm.
"Go!" Thranduil pressed through clenched teeth. His voice was nothing more than a silent whisper and contorted by his tears. "It is best for both of us."
Elrond didn't move, he kept standing next to his once again former lover and stared with teary eyes at him. Then, suddenly, he moved around Thranduil and leapt for the door. After having unlocking it, he tore it open and dashed out of the room. The door banged against the wall and stayed open, showing everybody who might pass through the corridor the form of the proud prince of Mirkwood, slumped against his wardrobe, weeping, whilst down in the yard a desperate half elf mounted his horse and raced away through the gate as fast as his steed's hooves would carry him.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
When my thoughts slowly drifted back to the present the first thing I noticed were the incredible blue eyes of Thranduil intently fixed on me. He watched me, aware of every emotion that crossed my features whilst lost in thought. I stared back at him for a moment, then my hands started to move again and I concentrated back on the golden mane between my fingers, so that I did not have to look into his face.
"Will you send me away as well?" My heart tightened when I heard the slightly frightened tone in my strong prince's voice. "I would stay with you, you know."
Silently I extended my hand, gently stroking the soft skin of his cheek. "I know," I finally whispered. His long hair was smooth and free of tangles by now and I put the brush away. For a long time I simply stood in the middle of the room, eyes fixed tightly on my love. He had offered to stay with me, to finally be my lover again. I was well aware that our relationship would not be like the ones of other couples as we both had realms to rule, but even in the past we often had been separated for long periods of time and we were used to it.
I still loved Thranduil with my whole heart, in a way I had never loved Celebrían. But still, Thranduil had hurt me deeply by sending me away that night so long ago. After the long years that had passed since then I did't blame him for that anymore, I understand now that he has done what he thought best for me. Still, I felt betrayed and hurt.
I couldn't bear his presence anymore. I needed some time alone, to be able to think about it, without him looking at me with this pleading expression in his eyes that nearly broke my heart. I turned around and left the room heading for the garden. At this time of the day nobody was there and I could wander the paths between the blooming roses and think in peace. Though I knew from the moment he uttered his question what my answer would be. As hard as my mind could protest, in the end it would be for my heart to make the decision.
The cool night breeze brushed against my face and played with the strands of my hair. It helped me to calm down, to push the anger that rose every time I thought of our last meeting rise as far away as possible, in a corner in my mind where it would rest for a long time if it ever surfaced again. I managed to stop thinking of how betrayed I had felt, but I also tried to stopp thinking of the reasons behind his actions.
Thranduil's father had had the gift of foresight and I had learned long ago that on some rare occasions those glimpses of the future came to my lover as well. He had known it. He had known I would have children and would be needed in the battle in the dark land and had done what he knew had to be done. He had also promised me that we would be able to be together once again in the future. And he had held his to promise.
But I did not think of any of this. After I had pushed every thought far away from me I called to my heart. I looked back at the house, just dimly lit, slightly glowing in the dark of the night. My blond prince waited inside for me and my heart nearly burst with the longing and love for Thranduil, something it had kept hidden carefully all those long years, so that it would be safe and could come back to the surface when the time was right. Like a seedling breaking through the earth it had come forth again and taken all bad feelings I had had away with it.
My feet already carried me back to the house. It had been a night like this, back then in Mirkwood, as dark as it could possibly be, but brightly lit by millions of stars. And like in the night long past I had run away from him. But this time I also came back.
Thranduil was sitting in a chair near the fireplace, his weight supported by an arm placed on the armrest. In his other hand he held a mug of wine he had poured himself from the collection I always kept in my rooms. He had remembered well, for I didn't keep them in the open. Thranduil stared intently into the fire. His whole body spoke of the fear and nervousness he felt. Silently I stepped up behind him and started gently kneading his tight muscles.
His body suddenly tensed even more when he noticed my presence. He made a movement as if to turn his head and look at me, but stopped. Silently we remained this way and I could feel how his muscles slowly releases some of their tension under my massaging fingers. "Did you come back to tell me to go?" His words suddenly ripped the silence apart and the fear in his voice was now clearly evident. A sound between a laugh and a sob escaped my throat and then I found myself leaning forward and wrapping my arms around his chest, face buried in the crook between neck and shoulder. The sound was a real sob now and tears suddenly spilled from my eyes.
"No," I whispered into his perfectly pointed ear. "Stay with me. Please stay with me. Forever." I felt Thranduil's strong hand on my arm, pulling me around the chair until I stood before him. Gently he pulled me into his lap and embraced me, pulling me close to his body and holding me tight, pressing a gentle kiss to my lips. "Yes," he whispered back. I could tell that he was also crying. "I'll stay with you. Forever."
