Paid in FullGlorfindel stared vacantly into the fire, his mind millennia away. Since his second life began, the Yule season had left the reborn Balrog-slayer feeling morose and alone...hollow, somehow. The lavish festivities celebrating the ties that bound family and friends had been but vivid reminders of all he had lost so long ago. In Gondolin.
And as though his sacrifice had not been enough, he had been sent back, his scar and memories intact, to serve the son of the child whose life he had bought with his own...sent back to witness more pain, death and destruction...
“Glorfindel?”
The lilting voice and soft touch drew him out of the past, returning him to the fire-lit Hall.
“Come, melethen. The little ones need a hand with the star.”
Looking toward the lovingly, if haphazardly, decorated tree, the reborn elf met two mirror-image grey gazes. “Please, ‘Findel?” one dark-haired sprite said hopefully. “Will you help us?”
“Please, ‘Findel?” the other echoed a heartbeat later. “And tell us about Iauradar when he was an elfling? Just once more?”
Glorfindel smiled, reaching out to pat each ebony-crowned head. At that moment, the flickering light caught the golden band that encircled his forefinger, mate to the ring on Erestor’s hand.
“Aye,” he replied. “I will, indeed.”
