He then started to walk away from them in the same direction that they were heading in originally. The others quickly followed behind him as they entered the forest of Lothlorien. They ventured forth through streams and continued till Legolas stopped with his bow and arrow out ready to fire but it was kept low pointed towards the ground. Gimli stopped as the others did as an arrow was in his face. Aragorn reached for his sword but he knew if he was to get into a fight here with Solaris slung around his front it would be very hard for him to even swing his blade easily. He kept his hand around the hilt of his sword as he gazed towards Legolas who stood in front of another honey haired elf.
“Where is Gandalf the Grey?” asked Haldir, as he looked at them.
“Gandalf the Grey has passed into the realm of the shadows and lives no more,” spoke Boromir, sadly.
There were other elves which moved around the group looking at them. One of the elves came to Aragorn’s side and with a move towards his cloak, revealed the one that he carried. He looked within the sling and saw the face. He looked up at Aragorn and then turned towards the leader of the elves.
“Haldir, it’s your sister! She’s hurt!” yelled that elf, as he started to remove Solaris from the sling that Aragorn had her bundled in.
Haldir rushed past Legolas and went to the elf’s side to see Solaris in the arms of that elf. He took her from him and started to whisper in their native language. He looked up at Aragorn and then turned to Legolas and asked him, “What happened to my sister?”
“She was shot in the back with an Orc arrow while we were fleeing from the mines of Moria,” stated Legolas.
Haldir looked towards Teleri, who was the one who was holding Solaris and Rumil, who quickly came to their side. “Teleri…Rumil, take Solaris to…”
Teleri quickly started to move away from where they were standing at. Aragorn looked towards Boromir and Legolas. Each one had a strange look on their faces, like they were wondering what they were talking about. Solaris, in his own memories had no family members that he knew of. He thought it was strange but then he was snapped out of his thoughts when he heard Haldir snap out an order about taking Solaris. Aragorn didn’t hear who they were taking Solaris to.
Aragorn turned towards Legolas and snapped, “Where are they taking her, Legolas?!”
Legolas turned towards Haldir and asked the same question. Haldir shook his head and waved the other elves and spoke in their native language as he headed off in a direction towards some trees. The eight walkers followed Haldir as they wondered who they were going to see.
The fellowship was now standing on a platform in the rustling foliage, mainly wondering where’s Solaris and why were they placed there and not with their friend. The golden-haired Elf greets them.
“Mae govannen, Legolas Thranduilion. * ”
Legolas spoke quietly, “Govannas vîn gwennen le, Haldir o Lórien. * * ”
Haldir glances at Aragorn. “A, Aragorn in Dúnedain istannen le ammen. * * * ”
Aragorn smiles softly. “Haldir,”
Haldir glances at Frodo and spoke, in a firm voice, “You bring great evil with you. You can go no further.
He walks away. Sam and Pippin turn to look at Frodo. He looks slightly uncomfortable. Legolas turns to look at Frodo, who looks uncomfortably away, and his eyes fall on Sam. Sam looks away, a hurt expression in his eyes. Merry and Pippin do likewise. Gimli glances at Frodo. Aragorn continues to argue loudly with Haldir. Frodo, looking at his friends, sees blame that does not truly exist anywhere but in his mind. He is alone, it seems. Aragorn is now pleading with him to let them continue through Lothlorien.
Haldir appears in front of them and with a look of disgust snapped, “You will follow me.”
A caravan of Elves leads the Fellowship along a ridge, through the golden woods. The group comes to the end of the high ridge and looks out. Below them, behind the mists, under sunset, a great glade of trees rises above the world, green and gold, rays of light drifting from the branches of trees.
Haldir speaks with a smile on his stern face, “Caras Galadhon...the heart of Elvendom on earth. Realm of the Lord Celeborn and of Galadriel, Lady of Light,”
The Fellowship arrive at Caras Galadhon, climbing a winding way among the great trees as the last rays of evening sun stream through their trunks. They ascend the path until night falls. In the blue glow of a moonlit night, the Fellowship climbs a twisting stair about the trunk of a tree, past glimmering lights of silver and blue. Far above, the silhouetted shapes of the shadowy tree-branches loom. Passing numerous platforms, they come to a great palace in the trees, lit with silvery lights. A curving walkway lies before them, leading up a low stair to an archway. Three-pronged, golden leaves are scattered about. Slowly, they gather before the arch as Haldir steps to one side, and look up. With a glow issuing forth from them, a Lord and Lady, descend to meet the Fellowship, hand in hand. The Fellowship stares in awe. Aragorn touches his head reverently in greeting.
Lord Celeborn spoke as he gazed at the group standing before him, “The Enemy knows you have entered here. What hope you had in secrecy is now gone. Eight there are here; yet ten there was set out from Rivendell. Tell me, where is Gandalf and the other missing walker? For I much desire to speak with him...I can no longer see him from afar.”
Galadriel whispers in a low voice, “Gandalf the Grey did not pass the borders of this land. He has fallen into shadow.”
Legolas spoke, his hand on Gimli’s shoulder, “He was taken by both Shadow and Flame: a Balrog of Morgoth. For we went needlessly into the net of Moria,”
Gimli bows his head, sadly.
”Needless were none of the deeds of Gandalf in life. We do not yet know his whole purpose. Do not let the great emptiness of Khazad-Dum fill your heart, Gimli, son of Glóin. For the world has grown full of peril. And in all lands, love is now mingled with grief,” Galadriel said.
Celeborn asked, “Where is your other member of the Fellowship? I wish to see this tenth member?”
“Solaris, one of our members was injured and was taken from us by Haldir. Gandalf the Grey is no longer in the light but in the realm of shadows. He has passed from this world to the next,” spoke Aragorn, bowing to her.
“Solaris…is here!” exclaimed Galadriel. She turned towards Haldir and asked, “Haldir, where is she?”
“She’s with our healer right now being healed of her wound, my lady.” Haldir stated his voice was calm as he looked towards Galadriel.
Galadriel spoke, “You all will rest and recoup your strength and mourn the loss of Gandalf.”
With that said, Celeborn and she were quick to leave the area. Haldir and three of the other elves lead them to their tent that they were to have. They all demanded to see Solaris. Haldir remained silent about Solaris; he then, left them alone and disappeared into the coming dusk.
