“Epoloven, is that you?” King Oberon turned away from his window and looked to see his royal subject standing at the doorway.
“It is, My Lord,” he shuttered at the thought of having to address him in such a way.
“Please enter, and do not mind my appearance,” he motioned to Epoloven. The King did not look well as creases were evident in is face and bags were under his eyes as though he had not been sleeping.
“My king, you do not look well,” Epoloven stifled a grin.
“I know, for I am greatly troubled Epoloven. My daughters have not been home for nearly a week and I do not know what has become of them,” his face was solemn.
“Actually, that is why I have come to you, my lord, for I too have been worried about them, so pure and delicate. As your assistant I took it upon my good graces to send out members of our royal guard to look for them,” he tried to look sympathetic.
“And?” he now had the Kings undivided attention.
“And I am afraid that the news is not good,” Epoloven looked at the ground.
Fearing the worst King Oberon threw his hand to his head, “Are they dead?”
“No, no they are safe, though I dare not tell you what they have been doing since you last laid eyes upon them,” he raised a brow.
“Tell me,” the King demanded.
“Well, suffice to say they have been seen in Lothlorien,” he replied.
“They have crossed the border?” the King’s demeanor was changing.
“Oh yes and I fear that they have been cohorting with the sentinels,” Epoloven added coolly.
“My daughters and those elves, they can not be trusted!!!” the King was less than happy with such news.
“But that’s not all, my King, they are on their way to Caras Galadhon as we speak,” Epoloven was really enjoying this; those little wenches had it coming.
“What business do they have there and why have they left the confounds of this forest?” the King bellowed.
“Perhaps because they are also traveling with a group of eight…” Epoloven paused and turned his back on the King now, a wicked grin came over his face as he uttered, “men”.
“MEN?!” the King was infuriated now and spoke with great haste, “Epoloven I charge you with running the kingdom while I go retrieve my daughters,” he walked to his door.
“My Lord, I feel it would be best if I accompanied you on your journey, for there is more to tell you,” he spoke eagerly.
“Then tell me as we fly,” the king commanded before cloaking himself as an eagle and heading to the golden wood.

Against what Pippin thought to be his better judgment, he walked over to where Felicity was now sitting legs folded; back resting against a tree; far from the others. He thought it odd for her to be isolated from the group, especially with all of the commotion that had taken place with Frodo. He swallowed hard and approached her.
“Felicity,” he spoke cautiously.
“Ah, Pee…” she paused, “Pippin.”
“He looked around to his right and then his left then pointed at himself, “Did my ears nearly deceive me, for a minute I thought that you called me by my name,” he smiled.
She smiled politely in return.
“Felicity, I know we haven’t really gotten on well, since well… since we met, but I just want to let you know that if there is something you want to talk about I am not much good at offering advice, but these big ‘ol ears of mine come in a might handy for listening,” he bent down to where she was sitting.
“Pippin,” she smiled, “You are…”
“Don’t finish that thought please,” he smiled widely taking a seat across from her.
Felicity offered a chuckle. This was the first time she had really listened to him. She rather liked his accent. It wasn’t like Frodo’s or the other hobbits; it reminded her a bit of her father, the King, who also had a quirky accent despite his “royalness” as it were. She sighed as she thought of him; surely she had fully disgraced him. All of her foolish pranks seemed trivial now compared to this drama that was steadily unfolding with each moment of passing. She wished she had never ventured out of Ediwione now.
“You know what you need?” he perked up.
“Pray tell, my dear hobbit,” she replied, focusing her attention on him once more.
“You need to have some good old fashioned hobbit-fun,” he beamed.
“Hobbit fun? Might I ask just what is hobbit-fun?” she wondered , though not sure if she really wanted to know.
“Well, I can’t describe it to you, I have to show it to you,” he insisted.
“I don’t know…” she paused.
“Felicity, did I not risk my little ‘ol life for you? Do you think I would steer you wrong now,” he quirked an eyebrow at her.
She glanced over her shoulder at the group and looked at her sister. She had been quite the heel towards her as of late. She then thought of Legolas; Argh! The promise! She quickly turned to Pippin, “You know what, you are right,” she perked up.
Boromir caught a glimpse of Felicity whispering into Pippin’s ear, “wonderful,” he thought to himself, the two were spreading like a virus, and he wondered who would be next in line. He didn’t have to wait much longer as he saw Pippin then walk over to Merry and whisper to him and then Merry to Legolas; surely it was a conspiracy.
“Are you going to eat that?” Boromir jumped at the sound of Gimli’s voice.
“By what means do you do all of that dancing around there? I was just wondering if you were going to take the last bit of stew,” he huffed, “Honestly, am I not the last one with a sound mind around here?” he replied smugly before walking off.
“I do not know about that,” Legolas whispered in reply to Merry’s notion that they be allowed to part company for a while and spend some time just being, well, hobbits as it were. “That may prove to be the best medicine for Frodo,” he had insisted.
Felicity cleared her throat causing Legolas to cast his eye upon her. She raised both her eyebrows, suggesting he take this opportunity for this was part of the said ‘distraction’ they talked about the night before.
Taking his cue, he walked over to where Aragorn and Gimli were enjoying the last of the stew and relayed the hobbit’s request.
“If you want to go over there and discuss it with Haldir then go right ahead,” Aragorn agreed, implying that he had no desire to argue with the Warden.
Legolas exhaled deeply and approached Haldir who was leaning against a tree with his back to the group.
“Legolas?” he acknowledged the prince.
“Haldir, I come on behalf of the hobbits. They are not used to such strenuous pace and have grown weary with travel. Perhaps if we let them rest a bit and have time to themselves, they will be refreshed and…” he offered.
“No,” Haldir replied curtly.
Legolas looked at him indignantly.
“I do not mean to be short with you, my friend, but we can not risk them getting lost in the wood. We can not afford to lose another day,” he stated flatly.
“Haldir,” he was thinking of Kimber now and was not going to let this issue be snuffed so easily, “It is not even noon time yet,” he insisted.
Haldir looked up at theitioitioning of the sun.
“Look at them, they are at best pathetic,” Legolas felt a bit guilty talking about his friends in such a way. Haldir had to agree with him for pathetic was certainly the operative word. “I will accompany them and I can assure you that we will not be long.”
“Very well, Legolas; please keep a watchful eye upon them,” Haldir sighed.
“You have my word,” he bowed his head before heading back to the group and relaying the news. Kimber and Felicity smiled as did the halfings; they all stood up and headed for the wood.
“Felicity,” Haldir motioned for her to come to him.
“Brotheet het her go,” Rumil whispered to him over his shoulder.
She looked solemn as she approached them; he lifted her chin, “Please do not give me reason to come looking for you,” he spoke sternly; her eyes brightened as she turned and ran to meet her sister.
“What was that all about?” Kimber looked at her sister queerly, far be it from Felicity to come to anyone when they beckoned her; especially Haldir.
Felicity pretended not to hear the question, grabbed her sister by the arm and ran quickly heading off the hobbits.
“Come on!” Merry and Pippin ran after them with Legolas and Frodo right behind them; with Sam toddling along after them.
“Wait up guys, don’t run so fast, you just ate your gonna get cramps!” Sam warned; they paid him no attention as they sprinted to a nearby clearing.
“Why is it that you shuffle along when we are walking but you have managed to run all of the way here?” Legolas inquired of the group of hobbits.
“As if you had to ask,” Merry rolled his eyes, “this is fun stuff!!”
“Yeah!” Pippin agreed.
“Well…what now?” Frodo’s eyes were bright once again bringing a smile to both Kimber and Felicity’s face.
“I know… let’s play a game of hide and seek!” Felicity suggested.
“What is that?” The hobbits chimed in wonderment.
“Oh,” Kimber exclaimed clasping her hands together, “That is one of my favorites!”
“It’s very easy,” Felicity began, “Whoever is ‘it’ has to count and the others hide and then he, or she, needs to find them.”
“What?” Merry raised a brow.
“What? What?” Kimber looked at him.
“What is ‘it’?” he inquired.
Felicity shook her head at his ignorance.
“Oh, ‘it’ is whomever we choose to be ‘it’,” she smiled.
“To be what?” Pippin insisted.
“The seeker!” Frodo got the idea.
“What are we looking for?” Pippin scratched his head.
“Us!” Samwise sighed.
“Why?” Merry wrinkled a brow.
“Because we are the hiders” Legolas replied.
“And what are we hiding from?” Pippin looked around rather concerned.
“Argh,” Felicity huffed, “Legolas you are ‘it’ everyone else-HIDE!!!”
At once everyone took off in different directions as Legolas began the countdown. Felicity offered him a wink before taking off.

“Frodo’s state of mind worries me,” Boromir confided in Gimli.
The dwarf nodded in agreement.
“His burden is too heavy. Perhaps if we shared it with him, he would be more of sound mind,” his words though sincere were laced with the greed of men.
Gimli would offer no reply to that. He thought Boromir to be mad at one time but now he wondered if he were just extremely cunning. Should he share his concern with Aragorn; who he now noticed was approaching them.
“Ah, Aragorn, where is everyone?” Gimli wondered, for he knew that the hobbits were off having a time but he no longer saw the Sentinels.
“Haldir has been summoned for council, and I do not know where Rumil and Orophin have gone they only told me that they would return in a short while,” Aragorn replied.
“We might use this opportunity to take rest,” he suggested as he took a seat near a tree and rested his back against it.
“Best idea I have heard all day,” Gimli agreed as he joined Aragorn. They both looked up at Boromir whose eyes also looked weary with sleep; though he deemed it fit for someone to keep watch, the tree did look a might inviting.
“These borders are well protected,” Aragorn offered and that was all the reassurance he needed as he slumped down in between them and closed his eyes.

“It wasn’t really fair choosing Legolas as the ‘Seeker’!” Samwise mumbled to himselfe cae can see for leagues you know.” Sam hadn’t gotten but 50 yards from him when Legolas had spotted him. He caught up with Sam easily as he was not fast enough to make it back to base in time. Sam sat there looking rather forlorn.
“Don’t fret Sam, it’s just a game,” Frodo insisted.
“Easy for you to say, you’re safe” he sighed. “Oh nevermind, Mister Frodo, you wouldn’t understand,” Sam looked at his rather large tummy. As soon as they got back to the Shire he was going on a diet. No more bread and potatoes for him; well maybe just no more bread; he wasn’t sure if could go without potatoes.
“Sam, don’t be…” Frodo began but was sudd tak taken in by the sight of Felicity running from Legolas as fast as her legs could carry her, “SAFE!!!” she bellowed tagging the tree.
She nodded her head motioning to him the direction in which she saw Kimber run and he was on his way sprinting for a few yards then slowing to a quiet pace as he now saw her hiding behind a rose bush. He wanted to laugh as she kept peeking out from behind it trying to see if he were coming and indeed he was, only from behind!!
Much to his sure, se, she sensed his presence when he was about 10 feet from her and she took off with lightening speed. He gasped at her quickness and ran after her. She was fast, nearly as fast as he was as she ran through an open meadow and neared a small hill. Her legs were nimble and she ran up it with little effort as he followed close behind. He was now gaining on her as she reached the summit and figured that so long as he kept this pace she would continually be just out of his reach. He took his only feasible option; he dove for her!
She looked down at him in disbelief as he had grabbed her legs causing her to lose her footing. The two of them went tumbling down the small incline and landed in a heap at the bottom of the hill. She blushed as she now found herself lying on top of him. He smiled up at her then proceeded to roll them over, bringing his body on top of hers (for this was how he had pictured it in his mind).
“I guess you are quite serious about hide and seek,” Kimber smiled sheepishly.
“I am more serious when it comes to matters of the heart,” he replied staring deep into her eyes; the bright sun brought about the flecks of gold in her amber eyes. Her face was really red now.
“Legolas?” she now looked at him, he was staring at her so intently now that she felt transparent.
“Kimber, for the first time in all of my years I do not know what to say,” he closed his eyes for a moment.
She was speechless for a moment for she knew not what to say to him either; she was so taken aback by his silence that she simply stared at him. He made no privy about it as he could no longer hold back his emotions.
He lowered his head and kissed her lips. She exhaled deeply. Certainly he had kissed her before and she him; but never like this. There was a hunger there as she parted her lips and his tongue searched her mouth as he ran his fingers through her hair; pushing his body into hers.
“Legolas,” she sighed as he kissed her neck; his gentle lips felt as though butterflies were dancing against her skin. Slowly, he explored her body with his hands, moving them skillfully over every inch of her clothing.
“Kimber,” he whispered to her softly. She hushed his lips with her fingers then brought her hand to his cheek; she just wanted to look upon his handsome face. He kissed her once more upon the lips as he caressed her thigh with his soft hand.
“I say, I thought the idea behind ‘hide and seek’ was to seek,” Merry huffed as he made his way over the hill.
“Who are you telling? I’d been sitting in a pricker bush for nearly a half of an hour before I finally gave up!” Pippin retorted as he followed closely behind his comrade. He now picked what was left of the weed from his bottom, as they neared the clearing.
“KIMBER!!!” Merry shouted breaking into a full sprint.
“What?” Pippin looked after Merry as he ran down the hill toward Kimber and Legolas.
“What do you mean by jumpin’ on her, you brut!” Merry hollered as he ran over to them and pushed Legolas off of Kimber with great haste.
“Are you alright, Kimber?” Pippin hurried over to her and helped her to her feet, before he offered Legolas a demeaning look. “Honestly, I would have expected more from the likes of you,” he huffed as the two took Kimber by the arm and led her back to ‘base’.
Legolas sat there for a moment, in a heap, looking more confused than ever.
“Felicity,” Frodo whispered. She yawned and looked up, a might confused as she saw her sister being pulled along by Merry and Pippin. Legolas walked a few feet behind them with a smug look on his face.
“Felicity,” Merry piped up “During hide and seek, as you call it, is it proper to tackle someone, especially if that someone is a lady?” he raised both brows.
“What?” Felicity laughed; Kimber shrugged her shoulders.
“The two of you were not even there when…” Legolas began in his defense.
“We know what we saw! We may be little, but we’re not blind!’ Pippin insisted, “Shame on you, throwin’ poor Kimber to the ground like that! She’s a delicate flower!” Pippin stroked her arm, “Our delicate flower.”
“I give up!” Legolas huffed before looking up at the sky. “I fear we have been gone far too long we must make haste back to camp!” he spoke suddenly.
“Oh no!” Felicity jumped up and felt herself become lightheadede nee nearly lost her footing.
“Are you okay?” Kimber offered her a hand.
“Well, yes,” she replied, “Just a little nausea,” she replied.
“Come, we must get back to the camp,” Legolas mustered the hobbits. “You go on with Kimber and I will help Felicity along.”
Kimber led the hobbits at a quick pace back to camp as Legolas and Felicity brought up the rear.
“I gather our delay was due to your courtship?” she smiled at him wearily.
“Aye, my fair Felicitye sme smiled.
“Though I am sorry that I underestimated the hobbits for I am sure what they interrupted was not a ‘tackle’” she smiled.
“Not exactly. Still the short time I spent with her was invigorating. I thank you Felicity, great will be your reward,” he continued.
“We are even; though if you wish to give me a gift, you need only to make my sister happy,” she replied.
“And so she will be,” Legolas smiled for a moment before he offered Felicity a concerned look; as her once tawny complexion was now flaxen.
Kimber ran over to where they were and watched in horror as Felicity vomited all over Legolas’ tunic.
“Looks like I’ll be doing another load of wash this eve,” Sam sighed.
“Come let us go,” Kimber insisted as she sensed something was terribly wrong with Felicity; she had known her all of her life not a day of which she had been ill.
“Where have you been?” Aragorn ran out to meet them as the neared the campsite.
“I am sorry. I lost track of time,” Legolas bowed his head.
“Legolas, news abroad is not good,” he did not like the look in Aragorn’s eye.
“News came from the sentinels of the North that Orcs tried to pass through these borders, this morning, while you were away Haldir and the others were called to the fields. All of the orcs were slain as were many of the woodland guard,” he continued.
The seven of them followed Aragorn back to the site solemnly. Upon reaching camp they noted that the mood was somber. Gimli and Boromir sat warming themselves by the campfire as the three sentinels were huddled by a tree deep in discussion. Rumil looked up from the group and in doing so brought attention to their arrival.
Haldir approached the group swiftly.
“Where have you been?” he questioned them.
“Haldir, I offer you my apologies, I assumed responsibility for the group and I lost track of time,” Legolas replied.
“And that responsibility so lies with you. I will say that I am disappointed in you Legolas,” he announced as he moved down the line they were standing in.
Frodo’s eyes widened in terror as Haldir stepped closer toward him, “A great evil has entered our forest, an evil that has killed many of my people,” it was no coincidence that he positioned himself in front of the halfling.
“Against my better judgment I will lead you to the Golden Wood, so long as you keep your abomination in check,” he demanded peering down his nose at Frodo.
“Haldir?!” Felicity scolded him.
He now stepped to her, “And to whom do you think you are speaking in such a tone,” he seethed.
“You do not need to be so nasty!” she continued.
Without warning he bent down and pulled her face close to his with his hand, “Would you like to see me get ‘nasty’ in front of all of your friends, Verna(wife)?” he challenged her.
She pierced her lips shut as he took her by the arm and led her away from the group.
She returned a few moments later without him, an artificial smile on her face. Kimber quickly walked over to her sister and examined her arm, “I am well,” Felicity reassured her.
“Felicity, What was he talking about?” Kimber gave her sister an uneasy look.
“He is angry, his senses are gone, who knows why he says half of the things he does,” Felicity lied as she smiled at her sister brushing off the drama, and thanking the heavens that she never had the opportunity to teach her sister elvish.
However no matter how burlesque that seemed, it could not hold a candle to the events about to ensue as Rumil suddenly appeared before the group clanging a goblet with a small rock.
“Might I have your attention, everyone,” he announced as he stood up on a nearby log, pleased that all eyes now settled upon him.
He raised his glass and waited a moment as Orophin passed around the goblets brimming with bubbling elven wine.
“I have thought many days about this moment, a moment when expression of love is mutually bonded to another,” he sighed as the members of the fellowship looked at each other then back to Rumil. “This is the day that I have lived for a day, where I offer my heart and my life to another in hopes that she will spend eternity with me!” All eyes now followed him as he leapt from the stump and walked over to Kimber. She froze unable to move as he knelt down on one knee and spoke once more, “My fairest Kimber, wouldst thou please be my wife?” the next sound heard was that of glass shattering as Kimber dropped her goblet.
Time seemed to run in slow motion as she looked at Rumil. He was smiling sincerely up at her. She turned to face Felicity who was shrugging her shoulders at Legolas, “I didn’t know!” she mouthed to him.
Kimber looked upon his face; he looked as though someone had pierced his heart with a sharp blade. The air around heew tew thicker with each passing second and she could feel consciousness leaving her as she glanced over to Merry and Pippin. The hobbit’s mouths were but inches from the floor as they stood there in shock, with the exception of Samwise, who as mumbling something about a wedding feast being in order.
Kimber offered them a quaint smile as she caught sight of Gimli who turned to Boromir and said, “Master race, huh I have never seen such absurdity.”
Everyone then looked upon Kimber first in anticipation then in horror as an ashen hue came over her delicate face. She opened her mouth to speak but could not as the oxygen seemed to leave her; a look of panic filled her eyes before they rolled to the back of her head as she fell to the floor.
