Fifteen Years
Chapter 12: Making Adjustments.
Legolas followed Celeborn to the baths, trying to ignore his slightly shakey legs. The lord slipped into the warm pool with a sigh and Legolas pulled off his tunic and joined him, his attention never wavering from Celeborn. As an afterthought, Legolas left the water and collected soap and washing cloths from a near shelf. Celeborn settled forward into the water as Legolas returned to his side, the soap held on upturned palms.
"Shall I bathe you, my lord?" He kept his voice deferential and quiet, somehow even more unsure of his role now. The confusing dichotomy between the masterful lord who had greeted him and the surrendering elf he had just taken had shaken Legolas' notions of how things were going to be here in Lorien, and he found himself struggling to regain his previous role.
Celeborn nodded and shifted his hair from his back, his voice expressing a wry smirk as Legols gently scooped warm water over the livid marks. "I suppose I am quite marked?"
The new voice that spoke behind them caused them both to start and turn. A mirthful glimmer accompanied golden hair and pale skin as Galadriel, naked as the day she was born, streamed as sunlight into the baths. Her words were lightly teasing, "Oh, come now. It isn't even welted, melleth nin. It's very lovely, though. I should have Sarnlass show me how he gets that pattern so even."
Celeborn chuckled as his wife slid into the bath. "I am quite certain he would be willing to demonstrate for you, my dear."
Legolas nodded in agreement, although he remained silent and kept his eyes averted from her form, focusing on soothing the soap into a lather between his palms before easing it over the reddened skin before him. He felt Galadriel's gaze appraising him, and kept his eyes on his task as she reached to touch Celeborn's hand lightly before tilting back and letting her hair splay across the surface of the water. As though she were inquiring about no more than a walk in the gardens, she asked, "Then the two of you had a pleasant afternoon?"
"Very much so." Celeborn replied, relaxing under Legolas' hands. "At least, our Sarnlass seemed to enjoy himself. Did you, Courtesan?"
Legolas smiled, meeting those intense eyes with a shy gaze. "Very much so, My Lord. I am only glad that I could please you."
"Tell me, Sarnlass, you rode with Feanal from Imladris." Galadriel's voice was casual as she dipped her hair under the water and ran her fingers through it's strands. "What do you know of him?"
"I am afraid I do not know him well, My Lady." Legolas sensed that Galadriel probably knew more of the dark haired courtesan than he ever would. She was, he surmised, seeing where his own feelings towards Feanal lay. "I must admit that I did something to displease him, and he does not consider me a familiar."
Galadriel nodded as she pulled herself upright in the water and spread her arms, letting the water drip down her bare body, across her small, high breasts, and down her flat stomach. "Then I shall tell you a secret, Sarnlass. I had hoped that March Warden Haldir would choose you, rather than Feanal. You would have been better suited. Still, I think you shall be happy here."
Legolas tried to keep the frown from his face. Why would the lady hope that the cold Marchwarden would choose him? He had finished Celeborn's back and dropped down in the water before the Elf Lord, kneeling between his spread legs and reaching to gently wash his chest and shoulders. The lord was beautiful, like an ancient marble sculpture, etched in the images of the Valar themselves. Legolas felt desire stir in him again and managed a smile. "I believe I shall, my lady."
"And I certainly have no complaints." Celeborn let Legolas rinse the soap from his body and then rose from the bath with a smug smile. "I think I shall go and have a rest before meal-time. Galadriel, would you be so kind as to entertain Sarnlass for a bit? Illiene is occupied for another hour yet, and then she can see him settled in."
"I'll expect your attendance upon me at meal, Sarnlass."
"As you wish, my lord." Legolas replied warmly, even as he glanced to Lady Galadriel. What could he expect from her 'entertainment'? She smiled mischeivously at him as Celeborn wrapped himself in a drying cloth and left the baths.
Two hours later, Galadriel called for Illiene as Legolas dressed. By the time the slight dark haired elleth, possibly the smallest adult Elf Legolas had ever met, arrived at the baths, Legolas was more weary than he had ever felt in his life. His arms, used to holding a bow or swinging his knives for hours on end, felt like the weak spring leaves that fluttered in the rainswept forest under the onslaught of the rain. His thighs ached. His fingers and toes were wrinkled from long submersion in the warm waters, and he wanted nothing more than to simply lay down and rest.
"Ah, Illiene, see Sarnlass settled in and show him about." Galadriel gave Legolas a brilliant smile. "Thank you, Sarnlass! I will see you at Evening Meal!"
Legolas bowed and said his farewell, closing the door behind him with a weary sigh. Illiene, her black eyes glimmering like a forest pixie's in the moonlight, giggled. "Had you give her the full beauty treatment, aye?"
Legolas nodded, too tired to explain. Fortunately, Illiene seemed to know exactly what manner of entertainment the Lady had come up with. He had washed her hair, conditioned it, rinsed and combed it. He had massaged her delicate feet with sweet oils, scrubbed her back with a coarse cloth before rinsing it and soothing it with a citrus scented lotion. Every inch of his lady had been bathed, massaged, pampered, lotioned, stroked, buffed and shined. By the time they were finished, the Lady was glowing radiantly and Legolas was certain he looked as though he had never slept in his life.
Legolas sighed, instantly comfortable with this delicate little creature who was the head of Celeborns courtesans. "Ai. I've never... I mean... "
Illiene laughed again. "No one ever has! Galadriel loves her pampering, Sarnlass, you had best get used to it. Every other day, she's calling for one of us for her bath!"
Another sigh escaped his lips. "I have to admit, I'm rather relieved."
Illiene gave him a shrewd look. "Our Lord wore you out, did he?"
"It's not that!" Legolas tried to keep the indignance from his voice. "I mean..." His voice dropped to a reverent hush, "That is Lady Galadriel."
Illiene smiled, "Yes, and she has many responsibilities and great power. And still, she is a gentle elleth, with all of the needs and sensibilities of any other elleth in the Realms. She need us, Sarnlass."
The fairie-like creature paused and opened a door. "She deserves the best we can offer, as does our Lord."
Briskly, she ushered him into the room. "Here is your room. Mine is through that door. On the other side is Seldayan's, although he is on the borders and I do not expect we'll see him until Mid-Summer Festival. Naura keeps room in the next talan. She's beholden to one of the scribes for a while. So, you and I have the Lord and Lady to ourselves for a few months yet." She gave him a sly wink. "They'll keep us busy, I warrant."
Legolas looked around the spare room. It was, for the most part, simple. A small desk with a chair; a round table with two chairs under the window; a tall wardrobe, where he was pleased to note his one small bag had been stowed; and the bed, which was surprisingly large and held the only touches of luxury in the room: satin coverlets, velveted pillows, and softly cured, dyed fleeces.
"I took the liberty of removing all the old decorations. I thought you might like to touch it up yourself, make it a bit more like home for you." Illiene said warmly. She opened the door to her room and retrieved a tray filled with breads, fruit, and cheeses, and a pot of tea, which she settled at his table and gestured for him to join her. "Eat. You won't get another chance until tomorrow morning, most likely, if you're to wait upon the Lord tonight. And we need to discuss entertainment for tomorrow night. Tonight's a feast so the minstrels will play, but tomorrow I expect they'll call us to entertain. Can you play?"
A bit dizzied by Illiene's quick subject changes, Legolas settled gratefully across from her and picked up a bit of bread. "Harp and flute. I can sing well enough, I think."
"Oh, thank the Valar!" She exclaimed, neatly slicing an apple into wedges. "I can play strings well enough, but flute eludes me entirely! Perhaps we can play the Stars Song tomorrow... that requires flute."
Legolas nodded but before he could speak she was off again. "Without Verdean, we may actually even have a bit of applause for ourselves. Not, mind you, that Verdean didn't deserve it. Ah, but what's the use in that. He's gone and not that he didn't deserve that, either. I hope your king can handle him, Sarnlass. I hear King Thranduil has a wicked temper from time to time. Rumors only mind you." She quickly mended as she saw Legolas open his mouth to protest. "Anyway, glad enough that the exchange worked out. Do you think you'll like it here?"
"Yes, I think..."
"Wonderful. It's so good to have new blood about. That dark one who came... Feanal?... I've heard of him. He's as lovely as they say. The two of you looked like book-ends, side by side. Amazing really. Shame he's off to Haldir. No, I shouldn't say such. I love our Marchwarden, sure as I love the Mallorns, but not what that I don't love his brothers more. That Rumil... but they aren't our concern now."
She stood and brushed her hands together, peering out the window. "I've tucked a new robe for you to wear tonight into the wardrobe. I suggest you lie down for a bit and I'll fetch you when it's time to head down for meal."
With that, the vivacious pixie-elf patted him on the head and passed back into her own room, closing the door and clicking the lock shut.
Legolas finished eating, too tired to even muse over all she had said, before sprawling onto the soft and decadently appointed bed, and letting rest claim him.
To his surprise, he felt quite rested when Illiene knocked on his door. She bustled in without waiting for his invitation and tugged his arm to pull him upright. "Dinner is in the main hall. We arrive first and wait for the Lord and Lady to arrive. I assume you've served before?"
Legolas nodded, although he had only served Mirie during his training. Still, it was not so difficult a thing, he thought. Not like slaying spiders.
"Now, I'll serve Galadriel, and you have Celeborn. Tonight will be tricky, because we must both look after the Lord Glorfindel. He'll be on Galadriel's right. It will mean some cross-over, so stay alert."
Legolas just kept nodding as Illiene fussed with his robe and his hair before standing back and huffing. "All right. Let's go!"
Legolas was relieved when they entered the dining room to find only a few Elves assembled as a few others came in and out laying places and carrying foodstuffs. Legolas was surprised to realize that one of the carriers was Rumil, the warden who had ridden with him into the city. Illiene explained, "We all take turns at the kitchen duties. Courtesan's are not required, of course, because of our other duties. But if you enjoy cooking, I'm sure the Lord and Lady would allow it. They try to encourage us to persue whatever interests we enjoy."
Illiene steered him onto the dais and behind the grand chairs that were obviously meant for the Lord and Lady. They arrived without fanfare, other Elves joining them at the high table. Lord Glorfindel did not look at Legolas at all, his gaze on the advisor he was chatting with as he seated himself.
Although Illiene and Legolas nearly collided behind Galadriel's chair at one point, and Legolas was forced to dive to catch the water pitcher as it slipped from Illiene's hands due to a good-natured, but sudden, rear-patting from Lord Glorfindel, nothing spilt or was broken, and their betters seemed quite pleased. It was near the middle of the meal when all eyes were drawn towards the entrance.
March Warden Haldir had arrived with head held high, eyes gleaming boldly, his crimson robe shimmered as he made his way to the end of the raised table. What caused the gasps that rolled through the room was Feanal. Naked from the waist up, in only tight linen trousers, the beautiful black-haired courtesan moved behind Haldir with a contained stride, led by a black leather leash clipped to his collar. Haldir bowed formally, "My apologies, Lady and Lord, for my late arrival."
Galadriel's eyes narrowed, still, she said nothing as Celeborn smiled a tight lipped smile. "Welcome, Haldir. Please, join us."
Haldir tugged lightly at the leash and Feanal followed him to his seat, immediately filling his plate and pouring his wine before standing back with downcast eyes. Legolas felt his heart harden further towards this March Warden. What cruelty! This sort of treatment was only meant as punishment! How could Feanal have so angered the Warden already? As the meal drew on, he tried to make eye contact with the other courtesan, but Feanal's eyes were on Haldir, all of his attention focused on pleasing the silver-blond master.
Legolas was relieved when the meal closed and Celeborn stood and made a closing toast, blessing the meal and the diners, before gesturing Legolas to join him. "Galadriel, do you care to join us?"
The Lady gave her husband a wicked smile, before glancing at Glorfindel. Without looking back she said warmly, "I believe I shall. Illiene, look after the Seneschal, please, and see that he has all he requires."
Illiene gave a short curtsy, and a rather anticipatory smile, before replying, "As you wish, my lady."
Glorfindel tilted his glass in salute to Lady Galadriel, "My thanks, cousin. I shall be quite content with Illiene's attentions."
Celeborn chuckled as he kissed his wife's cheek and cautioned his old friend, "Just do not keep her up too late, mellon. She's already had a long day. "
Glorfindel rose and dropped a friendly kiss on Galadriel's head, whispering something in her ear that made her laugh brightly before she turned away to join Celeborn. Legolas tried one last time to catch Feanal's eye, but succeeded only in catching the fierce glare of the March Warden, who spoke casually as they passed his chair, "Yours is nearly as lovely as mine, my lord Celeborn. I do hope he's better behaved." He paused to scathe Legolas with a raking stare, "Although I would doubt it."
Legolas tensed at the insult, but Celeborn spoke simply as he tucked Legolas under one arm, "Do not judge all Courtesans on the actions of one, Marchwarden. I've always found that one recieves from the relationship what one is willing to offer."
And with that, Lord and Lady passed from the Hall with Legolas held tightly to his Lord's side.
If they had chanced to look back, they would have seen Haldir return to his meal with a quiet grace, while behind him, Feanal dipped his head in the Lady's direction, recipient of her thoughts for him alone.
Ta Da!

Thank you, my darling readers! For sticking with me and for your patience while I spent a few days doing..uh..practical research!
Morier: Don't worry about Celeborn! I promise he'll get his turn. And yes, except for the hand job from Glori, that was the first slash scene. There will be more...more-- more--more!
Thalionwen: HAH Got ya! Almost pays back for the tomato soup... :D As it is, hope there's plenty of cold water where you are.
nikkeling: I'm so glad you liked it! Oh, Celeborn's got lots of ideas, but I think he may have some competition from his darling wife.
Emmess: Uh...do you want some popcorn to go with that video? I'd better get writing before you wear the tape out!
Soda: What? I failed? You didn't send Haldir and Galadhrim? Well...there goes the orgy scene! I guess I'm gonna have to come up with something else. As for "More Serious" you can expect more on Friday..the next two chapters just need to be cleaned up a bit. :)(hee hee...and I really don't mind being teased!)
Special note to Manitou: Thanks for your help with the 'research' this weekend! Unfortunately, I can't get the Lembas Lube comment out of my head. I may have to write something just for THAT! And if it delays everyone from getting their hands on the rest of this story, I'll blame you! :D
