CHAPTER 14:
Glorfindel laid his head back against the edge of the bathing pool, letting the gentle sway of the water soothe away his tension.
Just as his body was about to fully give in to relaxation his thoughts turned, unbiden, towards Melpomaen. In his mind's eye, he saw full lips parted in hungry need, long eyelashes shut in ecstasy, a graceful neck curved back in surrender...
The images seared his senses and his body began to throb with a different kind of tension as his arm dipped under the water, causing it to swirl deliciously around his awakening shaft. Remembering the sound of wanton moans, Glorfindel took himself in hand, stroking firmly as he sought to bring his fantasy to completion. So engrosed was he, that he failed to hear the soft knock at the bathing room's door. His hand began to move faster, as he hoarsely called out the assistant's name.
" Why yes, it is me my Lord." Melpomaen's surprised voice said from the other side of the closed door. " Lord Elrond sent me. You are urgently needed!"
The all-too-real sound of his fantasy caused the Balrog Slayer to freeze in mid-stroke, as the words cut through his pleasurable haze. He looked down at his own urgent need, biting off a vicious curse at bad timing in general and the young elf in particular. With a long-suffering sigh, he rose out of the pool.
" I will be right out pen-neth."
Somehow, He managed to keep his voice neutral, quickly drying off and dressing, while resigning himself to unspent need for the second time that day. Still, as he stepped out and beheld Melpomaen nervously waiting in the hall, all that kept Glorfindel from dragging the shy assistant back into the bathing chamber for a thorough ravishment, was his unflailing loyalty to Elrond.
" Lead the way, lirimaer. You can fill me in as we go."
Melpomaen could not keep the blush from his cheeks at hearing that endearment, even as he explained the situation over at the healing wing to his formidable companion. By the time they got to the courtyard, their twosome had expanded to include half a dozen guards, all of whom stared with undisguised surprise at the strange beast laying serenely on the grass.
Glorfindel quickly deployed the guards to form a loose circle around the perimeter of the courtyard, adonishing the elves to make no threatening moves, but to remain battle-alert. As the Balrog Slayer and the young assistant approached, the creature again inclined its head in respectful greeting, as it had done towards Elrond but a short time before. The golden-haired lord paused, looking directly into its gentle honey-brown eyes, then placed his hand over his heart, bowing in return.
" May Elbereth's light shine upon you, noble one."
The Balrog Slayer's voice betrayed a hint of awe, for he could sense great intelligence and temperance in the creature. He knew then, with certainty, that this strange beast would do no harm to those he was sworn to protect. He glanced over at Melpomaen, who was also studying the creature with awe, as well as a trace of puzzlement.
" Pen-neth, I must attend to Elrond. Would you see that our..guest's..needs are tended to?."
" Off course, my Lord. I will have water and meat brought at once." The young assistant said, bowing.
As soon as he heard Glorfindel enter the healing rooms, Melpomaen and one of the guards left for the kitchens. There, much to the head cook's dismay, they procured a huge platter of cold meats, along with the largest pail they could find. Enlisting the help of yet another member of the guard, they brought the meat and the pail, now filled with cool spring water, back to the courtyard. They set the offering beneath a stately tree, despite it being well into evening. Melpomaen had intentionally picked the spot, so that he could observe the great beast as it rose to partake of the offered repast.
His scholar's eyes began to commit every detail of the creature's appearance to memory and he became convinced that he had seen its like, or something quite similar, in one of the ancient tomes in the library. And so, he began to internally search his prodigious memory for the exact book, although what he really wanted, was to ask for leave to return to the library itself.
But it was unthinkable to disturb any of the lords with such a trivial request, when those in the healing rooms toiled for Elrohir's very survival. With his own heart beats faltering from worry, Melpomaen sent a silent prayer to the Valar on behalf of the younger twin.
And waited...
