Chapter 15: Longer Lines of Courtiers and Elrohir
Legolas sighed as she looked out the window of her room down at the castle gates, silent tears trickling down her cheeks. Tine ine of males was still long as usual. She studied each of them and wondered which one of them would be her future husband. None of them appealed to her, but she was afraid she would not have any choice. The tan haired one did not seem too bad. He was tall as his hair hung down to his shoulders, and he grew no beard. But the one behind him had darker hair and had a much stronger build. She had to laugh inside when she saw ten dwarves in the line. She mentally shuddered at the thought of being married to a dwarf. The thought disgusted her.
She felt like she was going to bawl again. When Legolas admitted last night that she loved Elrohir, he just stood there staring at her just as how she stared at Estel when he admitted he loved her. Elrohir then turned and ran out of the hallway, flying to his room. He never emerged ever since.
Legolas thought she ruined him for good. She knew that the person she loved would not love her back. When Elrohied fed from her, she cried for over an hour in her room. When he did not appear at the breakfast table, Legolas sank into even more depression. Her family noticed how quiet she was at the breakfast table. She ate little, and she asked to be excused from the table early. Her father and siblings could see the tear fall from her eye as she fled from the table. When breakfast was done, Legolas, Illiphir, Kuellen, and Naraden went out to ride.
“Is something wrong, Legolas?” Naraden asked.
“Nothing is wrong,” she said softly.
“You will never make a good liar, Legolas,” Illiphir gently scolded. “We know something is wrong. What is it?”
Her brothers thought she would never answer, for she remained silent for a long time. Finally, she answered, “I am in love with Elrohir.”
“I... see,” Illiphir spoke, seeing that his brothers were speechless. “Did you tell him?”
“Yes.”
“And?”
“He ran away from me.”
“Oh.” After aent, ent, Illiphir added, “Is that why you are so glum this morning?”
“Yes.”
“Give him time, little sister,” Kuellen said. “He was probably shocked at the news and wanted time for himself. He is probably meditating in his room right now.”
“I know,” Legolas said. “But it’s just that... I expeca dia different reaction from him. I really think that he does not love me back. I knew I shouldn’t have admitted my affections to him. I should have just said nothing. Now I will have to marry one of those outside in the line.”
“Just give him time,” Kuellen said. “It will be all right at the end. You’ll see.”

“I think I should post up signs to forbid anyone from coming here anymore,” Thranduil muttered as another courtier walked out of the throne room, disappointed.
“I’ll start on them right away,” Illiphir said as he turned and started towards the .
.
“No, you don’t!” Thranduil boomed, inwardly smiling to himself. Illiphir can sometimes be such a tease.
“Your highness,” the herald called out, holding up a folded piece of paper. “A message from Elrohir, son of Lord Elrond of Rivendell.”
King Thranduil was puzzled that the message was sent from Elrohir. He was even more surprised when he read the note.
“Elrohir wants all of us to be present in the throne room after dinner tonight at eight,” Thranduil told his two older sons.
“What does he want?” Melenor asked.
“I don’t know,” he said. “But we will have to wait and see.”
“Do you think it has to do something with Legolas?” Naraden said thoughtfully.
“Perhaps,” Thranduil said. “After what you told me about her and Elrohir, I would expect that. Melenor, Naraden, spread the news to the rest of your brothers and sisters. I am sure they all are wondering what young Elrohir is up to, as am I.”

Chapter 16: The Proposal
Elrohir tugged on his tunic to get rid of the wrinkles in it. Checking himself over to make sure he looked all right, he stared at the two huge doors that served as the entrance to the ballroom. Was he ready to do this? His mind said yes, but his body felt numb and stiff with nervousness. But he had to do this. For Legolas’s sake.
Earlier, Elrohir had felt some jealousy rise up in him as he watched from his guest bedroom window the line grow longer and longer each day. He was grateful that Thranduil had turned them all down. Thranduil even voiced his disapproval for each of those who came to him. The lines had been as long as ever.
But Elrohir did not want Legolas to marry any of them. Ever since Legolas’s confession, he never left his room. Ever since he laid eyes on Legolas all those years ago, he had felt a tingle of emotion in his heart. He did not know what it was at first, but now he knew. Before, he had never looked upon any girl with any interest, but that changed. He had felt this feeling even after his father’s party. Laying back on his bed, he thought of all the times he and Legolas spent together. She was happy being with him, and he certainly was happy being with her. Did he want to spend the rest of his life with her? It was a great commitment, but he had always wanted to be with her.
Legolas’s confession shocked him, he admitted. He never expected that coming from Legolas’s lips. He did not know what do to except to run to think. He knew he hurt Legolas terribly from his actions, but he could not think of any other thing to do. But he would now make amends for that.
Taking a deep breath, he pushed the doors open and strode in. He looked up to see Thranduil sitting on his royal throne with his children all standing lined up by age next to him. When Elrohir reached the bottom of the stairs that ascended up to Thranduil’s throne, he stopped and bowed.
“Your majesty,” Elrohir greeted him.
“Elrohir,” Thranduil greeted back, nodding. “And what do I owe the pleasure of your visit?”
“I have come to ask you a sincere and important question, my lord,” Elrohir said. “I have been a family friend for many years now. In the time during my visits, I have greatly enjoyed the company of Mirkwood and your people. I think it would do us all good if Mirkwood and Rivendell join forces, together becoming great allies.” He paused for a moment, then continued. “I ask one thing of you, King Thranduil. I will not be saddened if I am turned away, a-and I know that an elf must reach their age until they can marry, but... I... I wanted to ask you for Legolas’s hand in marriage.”
Melenor, Naraden, Darion, Elissa, Kuellen, Galassen, and Illiphir all gasped in shock. Legolas’s eyes widened, and she turned to her father.
“I - well, I am surprised at this proposal, Elrohir,” Thranduil said slowly. Looking at Legolas and the joy in her eyes she is trying so hard to control, he smiled. “I think the union between Mirkwood and Rivendell is a good one. We certainly are delighted that the kingdom of Rivendell will be our ally. You yourself have shown how much you care for her. I am sure you will make a great life-time companion to her.” Lowering his voice, he said to Legolas, “Do you want to marry him, Legolas?”
Legolas was trying very hard to contain herself. “Yes, Adar,” she said solemnly. “I do want to.”
Smiling, Thranduil turned back to Elrohir. “Then so be it, Elrohir,” he said. “Elrohir, son of Lord Elrond of Rivendell, I give you my permission to wed my youngest daughter, Legolas.”
Legolas cried out in happiness and rushed down the stairs toward Elrohir. Elrohir stepped forward to meet her, and they met in a tight embrace.
Legolas’s siblings all hurried down the stairs to give their regards to the betrothed couple. Elrohir smiled at Legolas.
“I love you,” he whispered to her, taking her hands into his. “I am sorry I offended you last night by fleeing, but I do love you. I have loved you ever since my brothers and I rescued you. I love you with all of my heart.”
“And I love you,” Legolas whispered back.
Drawing closer, their lips met in a soft kiss, sealing their bond. Elrohir and Legolas’s inner lights shone brighter around them, almost engulfing herself and her betrothed, as their lights reflected the power of their newly created strong bond.
THE END
~ Well, it’s done! It’s kind of a hurried ending, I know, but I was getting a little tired. I don’t think I’m going to write a sequel to this, but if you want to, let me know. Probably not, though. Hope you enjoyed it! =)
