Forbidden Falls
Mirduin shifted nervously “What
would you like to know” Glorfindel smiled, placed his hand on the archer’s
knee, then removed it when he stiffened “Tell me anything you are willing to
share”
Mirduin took a deep breath “I
take the long watch at the southern border. It is a four-month post, and then I
am off for four months…while…while I am off I do not really do much. I go to
the market, read…sleep…I sleep a lot when I am off, though I think that will be
changing”
Glorfindel smiled kindly “And
why will that be changing?” Mirduin sighed “King Thranduil promoted me into his
personal guard…moments before we left for here actually. I know nothing
about being a body warrior, but the king said he does not like me being so
isolated all the time. The king has a good heart and means well”
Glorfindel took note that when
the archer leaned forward to retrieve some bread, as he sat back down, he had
moved away some ‘Ahh…now you are good at subtlety…cleverly done’
“So what of your family…any brothers or sisters?”
The archer shook his head
“Nay…my Adar perished while on patrol and…and healer Thalos poisoned my Naneth”
The seneschal dropped his jaw “What? Oh Mirduin, how…how old were you”
The archer sighed then looked
to the blanket “Forty…Thalos had me daily after that, sometimes more. I
practically moved in with him…I just did not care anymore. Then, five years
later he just…stopped”
Glorfindel shook his head and
sighed, “I apologize” “For what my lord?” The seneschal sat up and moved away
some “I knew you had been harmed, but I did not realize…I apologize”
Mirduin slowly reached out,
grabbed the water and refilled both there glasses “Accepted my lo…Glorfindel. I
will be honest, I have never been on a picnic. It is rather nice”
The golden warrior furrowed his
brow “Never? How is it that an elf has never been on a picnic” Mirduin looked
around and sighed, “I have been alone, fulfilling my duty at the southern
border and…well, I have no friends. I choose isolation, though the king has put
a stop to that as I said”
Glorfindel ever so slightly
moved closer and put out his arms “Tul, let me hold you and offer you comfort”
Mirduin quickly leaned away “Nay truly you need not…I…I do not react well to
touch, or have you forgotten when we met”
The seneschal arched his brow
“Nay I have not forgotten, and I will say, that I do not react well to
the thought of those I care about being hurt. Saes, find comfort in my arms”
Mirduin furrowed his brow and
sighed heavily “Ve…very well but I can not guarantee that I…will not thrash
or…or something” “Fair enough my dear archer”
Glorfindel lightly pulled the
archer into his arms and Mirduin began to tremble. The seneschal gently stroked
his hair as he whispered softly “Fear not my embrace, no harm will come to you
within my arms”
After a few moments, Glorfindel
was caught of guard and the young archer shifted in his arms and began to push
and whimper “Nay nay daro not again not again”
The seneschal furrowed his
brow, then slowly waved his had before the archers open eyes and thought ‘Is
he asleep?’ Glorfindel repositioned his hands to the archer’s biceps and
gave him one abrupt shake.
Mirduin blinked, and then
suddenly punched the seneschal square in the chest. Glorfindel slowly rubbed
where he had been hit and furrowed his brow “Ooo…ouch, I gather that that was
the ‘or something’ you were speaking of?”
Mirduin lowered his gaze “I
apologize my lord, though I did warn you” Glorfindel chuckled “Ai that
you did, and call me Glorfindel. Now tul, let us try again”
The archer sighed and shook his
head “You are rather persistent my l…Glorfindel”
Glorfindel pulled him close
“Persistent? Ha! A glutton for punishment would be more accurate” Mirduin
turned slightly and looked at him confused.
The seneschal then sighed and
began to stroke his hair “Well, let me see if I can not give you some
examples…I fought a Belrog, defiantly not fun, I would not recommend it…I annoy
Mandos, not something I would suggest if you ever meet him…I agree to
come back and be Elrond’s captain, who by the by is a fair and just lord,
though you defiantly do not want to get on his bad side…Then I fall head
over heals for a Sindarin archer who does not react well to touch and the like.
So, as I said, glutton for punishment would be a more accurate assessment”
Mirduin turned and shyly
whispered “H…head over heals?”
Glorfindel sighed heavily and
nodded “Nai, by far”
As they sat for a while,
Glorfindel noticed that the archers intermittent trembling had lessened some,
though they still occurred and he suddenly remembered his warriors in the
barracks and gave off his own little shudder.
Mirduin turned some and tilted
his head “Glorfindel?” The seneschal sighed and then arched his brow “You are
staying in the barracks correct?” The archer shrugged and nodded “Nai”
Glorfindel shook his head and
sat straight “That will not do. Legolas is staying with his Adar this evening,
he has been staying with me for comfort, innocently of course, but he seems to
need the closeness. Since he will be absent, I think you should stay with me
this night”
Mirduin’s eyes flew wide “In…in
your chamber?”
Glorfindel nodded and smiled
kindly “Nai my chamber. I will not harm you, you can trust me” Mirduin furrowed
his brow “And if I were to…decline?”
Glorfindel tilted his head and
sighed “Then you will stay in the barracks, with Thranduils guards and my
warriors…though you are a new recruit and I would not consider it wise for you
to do so”
Mirduin crossed his arms “I am
no new recruit, I have been guarding the southern border since my majority…”
the young archer then frowned “Though…though I am new to the kings
personal guard”
The seneschal groaned “Then
that places you into the category of new recruit” Mirduin shrugged “Is that
bad?”
Glorfindel nodded “Mmm, well…my
warriors like to play pranks on new recruits…they will snatch the elf in the
mid of night” Mirduin’s eyes widened and he swallowed hard “Wh…what do they do
to this elf”
The seneschal arched his brow
with concern “Well, they have thrown them in the river…put them in Asfaloth
stall and locked the door…they have…they have also striped them bare and tied
them to the statue of Gil-Galad in the main courtyard…”
Mirduin gasped, quickly nuzzled
the slayers neck and blurted out with panic “You may have me my lord! Saes, do not
let your warriors touch me! I…I will submit to you! You may have me! Do you
wish for me he…here? Or tonight in…in your chamber I…”
Glorfindel quickly grabbed and
held the terrified archer “Daro Mirduin daro…calm down, nay you did not let me
finish…I was going to say that if you truly wished to stay in the barracks, I
would speak to my guards and make sure they leave you alone”
Mirduin panted heavily “I…I
will stay with you”
The seneschal sighed and nodded
“Alright my timid archer, but know that I will not harm you thusly…as prince
Legolas said ‘Glorfindel safe elf’ I will not harm you”

Elrond sat in his study,
enjoying the quiet, and warmth of the fire as he read and drank some wine. The
elven lord slowly blinked, lightly shook his head to clear it, and then groaned
“Nay not again”
Elrond set down his glass and
book, and then spoke aloud “Are you there? Wh…watching this? Why do y…you drug
me…sssaes…cease drug…drugging me, it is mm…mmmost unpleasant. I get the
woo…worst headaches. Can you not…just…leave me a note to…to blllindf…blindfold
mmyself? I woo…would compl….comp…”
As Elrond slumped in his chair,
an elf slowly creped out of the shadows, picked the elven lord up, and carried
him from the room.
