Part Eighteen

Part Eighteen:

The sun had creped into the Mithlond twin’s room as it rose but only one twin was found there sleeping peacefully. The other had risen very early and bathed before going to the training grounds to spar with Elrohir.

The sound of metal clanking echoed in the valley as the two spared. Soon the heat of the day worked on the bodies of the two elves, and Nórdithen and Elrohir removed their shirts to cool themselves. They were evenly matched and victory would not be easily clamed by either.

The sweat running down Elrohir’s chiseled chest caught Nórdithen’s eye, and he suddenly had a desire to run his tongue along that fine long neck, among other places.

“You are looking a little tired. Why don’t you concede now and save yourself the embarrassment of being beaten on your home turf?” Nórdithen joked to get his mind off the other’s flexing muscles.

“Concede? Ha I don’t know the meaning of the word,” he said as he lunged and drove Nórdithen to the edge of the practice ring.

“It means to give in, or surrender.”

“Very funny, Nórdithen, if your brother is half as humorous as you are its no wonder my twin is falling for him.”

As he crossed swords with Elrohir again, he steeped closer, the only thing between them was their swords. “Falling for him? Do you really think they are falling in love?”

“Would that be so bad if they were?”

“Yes, it would! We are not from here. We have a home and a life in the Grey Havens. What could Gondithen be thinking?” he dropped his sword and ran both hand through his hair as he started to pace. “We can not stay here and Elladan can not leave, he will be heart broken.”

“What are you more worried about, Nórdithen?” Elrohir studied his companion closely. “Your brother getting his heart broken or you losing him.”

What do you mean?”

“You keep saying “we”. I leaned a long time ago just because twins look alike does not mean they are alike on the inside. Look at my Ada and uncle, they chose different races.” He grabbed Nórdithen by the arm and turned him to look him in the eye. “You may have made choices, but that does not mean your brother feels the same. He may decide that love is worth leaving the only home he has ever known.”

It’s just hard, I never thought we would be separated.”

I know; I have no idea what I would do if I thought Elladan would not be with me everyday. But nothing is set in stone and many things can happen; maybe it is just a passing fancy.”

“Maybe you are right, but this is the first time Gondithen has shown this much interest in anyone. He would not even tell me what they did last night.”

“I don’t think I want to know what they did.” Elrohir said cheekily.

“Oh, you know what I mean!” Nórdithen replied as he punched Elrohir in the arm playfully.

“How about we go for a swim? I know I would like to wash this sweat off, and you are starting to stink like Estel!” he said and had to duck out of Nórdithen’s arms as he made a grab for him. “Race you to the river!” He called over his shoulder.

Anyone looking out of the house would have seen the youngest Lord of Rivendell and the oldest twin of Mithlond racing like children over the lawn towards the river.
