Summary/Notes: The Fellowship departs, Glorfindel apologizes to Erestor, and Elladan and Elrohir depart Imladris.

Legolas crouched by the door, checking his pack one final time. Erestor sat upon the bed and watched him, his heart growing heavier by the moment. He knew this would be the last time he saw his Prince for many, many years, if ever again. He feared for his safety and for that of the Fellowship. He had risen early that morning and found Mithrandir on the terrace. He made the wizard swear to protect him, he made him swear that he would let no evil befall him. The wizard had smiled gently and nodded, “I will protect him with my life, Erestor.” That had been enough to silence the growing panic the Counselor felt. He held in his hands the letter that he promised to personally deliver to Thranduil for Legolas. He did not need to read it to know what it said, and to know the effect it would have on his friend, the King. Erestor was still angry with his Lord, for choosing Legolas; but, had it not been the Prince it would have been another he did not want to part with.

Upon seeing the Counselor’s face when Elrond chose Legolas, Glorfindel stood up and asked to be sent in his stead. The warrior argued that he had more experience in facing Sauron’s evil than the Prince, he was a seasoned warrior, and had already faced the fires of Mount Doom. Elrond had denied the warrior’s request much to Legolas’ relief and Erestor’s. As much as Erestor did not want to see the Prince face this trial, he wanted to see his beloved warrior spared it more. After all this time, after all the hurtful deeds done and words said, he still loved Glorfindel and would not have been able to bear it if anything happened to him. He was not sure why, but something in Legolas’ manner inspired confidence in him that he would return home safely, that he would not perish, though a part of him still worried for the Prince.

Legolas rose and looked at his lover and smi He He approached the bed and knelt before him, taking his hands in his own and pressing them to his lips. Erestor looked down at the beautiful Prince and whispered, “Are you not afraid, Legolas?”

Legolas looked up at him and smiled gently, “Of course I am, Erestor, I would have to be mad not to be. But I will not let fear rule me, I will not let it stop me from doing what I know must be done. I do not do this for glory or fame, I do this because the world must be made safe for all of us,” he reached up and caressed his face, “I do this for my father, and I do this for you.”

Erestor pulled him up to meet his lips and laid back upon the bed. Legolas’ flaxen hair fell around him like a veil of pure light. He felt his sweet breath upon his face and his silken lips against his own. He thought to himself that this would be a good way to spend eternity, beneath this beautiful warrior. Legolas molded his body to the Noldo’s and kissed him, it was a kiss that Erestor would never forget, and it was one of the sweetest kisses of his long life. He ran his hands into the Prince’s hair as he opened his mouth, feeling his warm tongue enter him and taste him. Each time Legolas kissed him and made love to him, his feelings for Glorfindel faded a little more, making the pain of rejection a little easier to bear. They lay together, caressing each other and kissing one another until they could put off their parting no longer. They rose from his bed and walked down the long hall to the stairway that led to the courtyard, hand in hand.

Erestor watched Arwen say goodbye to the man she had loved for many years. Tears glistened in her eyes and she smiled bravely, not wanting the last image her beloved Aragorn saw of her to be one of sadness. Glorfindel stood behind her, offering her support, his strong hands resting upon her shoulders. Elladan and Elrohir stood on each side of her, each holding one of her hands. The Counselor was stoic as Elrond gave his blessing to the nine who held the fate of the world in their hands, and as they turned to depart, he rushed forward, throwing his arms around Legolas one more time. He pressed his lips to his ear and whispered, “Amin mela le, Legolas.”

Legolas squeezed him to his chest and whispered, “Amin mela le, Erestor. Do not fear for me, you have given me the strength to see this through.”

They separated and the Prince turned to leave, the final one to pass through the gates of the Last Homely House.

Erestor stood at the gates and watched them walk away until he could see them no longer. When he turned to go back inside the house, he saw Glorfindel sitting upon the steps waiting for him. He walked toward his old friend as the warrior stood up.

“I am sorry, Erestor.”

Erestor looked up into his bright blue eyes and softly answered, “I know, you did what you coulThanThank you, Glorfindel.”

He moved to walk past him when the warrior caught him by the arms. “That is not all I am sorry for, meldir. I am sorry for how I spoke to you yesterday, I had no right. I was jealous, I suppose, though I have no right to be. I wanted to think Legolas was dishonest and a manipulator, but I find now I cannot. The Prince is kind and noble, and brave, I see that now. He is worthy of your love, it is I who is not.” He sighed, “I hope you can forgive me for all that I have done to you, I never meant to hurt you, Erestor.”

Erestor placed his hand upon his shoulder and nodded. He turned and walked up the stairs to his study, he needed to work, to do something to take his mind off how he felt.

Elladan and Elrohir were in the stables packing their horses and preparing to depart. They were to ride ahead of the Fellowship and scout the way for them. Elladan looked back at the stable door and saw their father and sister standing there. Elrond crossed the ground between them, taking him in his arms and whispering in his ear, “Take care of yourself, Iôn, look after your little brother.”

Elladan smiled and nodded, “Aye, Ada, I will.”

Elrond released him and took Elrohir in his arms, as Arwen embraced Elladan. “Take care of yourself, gwador. I will miss you until I see you again.”

Elladan whispered into her ear, “Do not fear, Arwen, Aragorn will not fail, he will see this through.”

She nodded as she released him and rose to her toes, placing a kiss upon his cheek, “I know.” She embraced Elrohir and said her good-byes before returning to her father.

Glorfindel entered, and Elrond smiled sadly as he and Arwen left the Twins alone with the warrior to say their gooes. es. As the door closed behind Elrond, Glorfindel stepped forward and took them both in his arms. He held them tight for a long while, reluctant to let them go. He finally released them and caressed their faces. “Be careful, my loves, take care of one another.”

Elrohir answered, “You have trained us well, Glorfindel. We will not forget the lessons you have taught us.”

Elladan smiled, “Nor will we forget your love, it is what will see us home safely.”

Their eyes glistened with tears. He placed a soft kiss upon each of their lips and whispered, “Until we see one another again. Namarie.”

They mounted their horses and rode away as the warrior stood at the gate, his hand raised above his head. It would be the last time they saw their home, or Glorfindel for almost a year.
