“This way, ‘Dan! I remember now. ‘Tis a quicker path.”
Elladan looked at the overgrown trail warily. “Are you sure? Our last shortcut through woods nearly ended in disaster.”
“And what disaster that could befall us in the heart of Lórien is worse than arriving late at Iaurnaneth’s table?” Elrohir asked wryly. “She will have our braids for bowstrings, and tell Ada, as well.”
Seeing clearly the wisdom of his brother’s logic, Elladan nodded, and the twins set off down the narrow track at a good pace. The way widened slowly, and soon they could walk side-by-side. Reassured, the young elves hurried on, so intent on the path before them that they failed to notice the thinning of the trees until they stood at the very edge of a hidden glade.
Oblivious to everything but the trail and the need to be on time for the evening's meal, Elrohir took a step into the clearing, only to be jerked back into the trees by his brother. “What are...” he began, only to have the protest stifled by a hand clamped firmly over his mouth.
Hush! Look!
The command hissed through the elf-knight’s mind and the silencing hand was slowly removed. Turning his full attention to the glade, Elrohir felt his ears begin to burn even as hysterical laughter bubbled in his chest.
There, in the center of the sunny clearing, was a spring-fed pool, surrounded entirely by moss-softened rocks and swaying grasses. And the pool was occupied by two elves who clearly had no idea they were being observed.
Celeborn and Galadriel.
Elrohir turned wide grey eyes on his brother,
This is more than I care to know about my Iauradar and Iaurnaneth, ‘Dan.
Another glance at the entangled forms had him hastily averting his gaze.
A lot more than I care to know.
Ever practical, Elladan shrugged, though he kept his eyes firmly on his twin’s face.
There is one comfort, though, ‘Roh.
One ebony eyebrow arched in silent question.
At least we shan’t be the only ones late for dinner.
