Chapter 22--Gold and Ebony
Erestor stared at Glorfindel. He had to be mad! "I do not wish to share your bed. Go find another," he snapped.
"I do not want to find another, lovely one. I want you," Glorfindel purred. He caressed Erestor's cheek tenderly. "Can you not allow me to love you? I can thaw the ice if you will allow me in, Erestor. It does not suit you."
Erestor couldn't keep from leaning into the touch and who knows what would have happened if someone hadn't pounded on the door. Erestor pulled back as if he'd been burned.
Glorfindel cursed softly. "What is it?" he called.
"Lord Elrond asks your presence in his study, my Lord," the servant said.
Glorfindel looked like he wanted to strangle someone. "I will be there shortly!" he called then looked at Erestor. "I will be back."
"Do not bother. The door will be locked. Go find one of your former lovers, Glorfindel. You certainly have plenty to choose from," Erestor said.
Glorfindel smiled at him. "I will not have too. We both know the door will not be locked when I return," he said and left.
Erestor glared at the closed door and went to comb out his hair. He hated Glorfindel at that moment because the Elda might be right about the door being open.
Unfortunately Glorfindel was unable to return to find out if the door was left unlocked or not. He had to ride to the border that night with some troops because of a small band of Orcs coming to close to Imladris.
Erestor and Elrond were in the study working when Glorfindel returned three days later. Elrond was relieved to see him. "Is all well, Glorfindel?" he asked.
"Yes, we killed them all and burned the bodies. None of us were hurt," Glorfindel said. His gaze went straight to Erestor and he smiled. "You are a vision of loveliness as always, lirimaer," he said.
Elrond glanced quickly at Erestor. He was surprised and amused to see that the advisor was blushing. "We will hear your report then," he said.
Erestor fetched clean parchment and nodded to show he was ready to take notes of the incident. He wrote quickly and skillfully as Glorfindel talked.
When Glorfindel finished he leaned back in his chair, studying Erestor hungrily.
"Thank you, Glorfindel," Elrond said and stood. "If you will excuse me I wish to join my Lady and children in the garden. That is all for today, Erestor."
"Yes, my Lord," Erestor said and sprinkled sand on the parchment to dry the ink before he put it away.
"I missed you, Erestor. I am sorry I did not come back," Glorfindel said.
"It would not have mattered. The door was locked when you left and would have remained that way regardless," Erestor said. He gasped when his upper arms were seized and Glorfindel pulled him to his feet.
"Why do you persist on ignoring me? You accepted my touch eagerly that night. You desire me. I can feel it, so why do you deny it? Stop playing games!" Glorfindel yelled.
"I cannot lay with you no matter what I wish. I have more important duties here then rolling in the sheets with you. You should know that now, Glorfindel," Erestor said. He pulled away and left the room. Once he was safely inside his room with the door closed he leaned against it and wept.
Glorfindel was in a foul mood when he went to the barracks a week later. He was annoyed with Erestor and his constant changing moods. The advisor had done his best to avoid him as much as possible.
Saion, his second in command, was waiting. "Good morning, Captain. What has caused such a sour expression?" he asked.
"I think you know," Glorfindel grumbled.
"Old Iceheart is resisting your considerable charms, eh?" Saion grinned. "I am going to win the wager."
Glorfindel didn't even think about the answer or what Saion had said. "I would not wager a copper on that bet," he muttered. A harsh gasp behind them made them both turn.
Glorfindel's heart sank. Erestor was standing in the doorway and he looked like he'd been stabbed in the heart. It was then Glorfindel realized what they had sounded like. "Lirimaer," he said, reaching for him.
Erestor stepped back, eyes filled with hurt then they went cold. "My pardons for the interruption, I thought we needed to talk, Lord Glorfindel, but I guess I was wrong," he said. Turning, he stalked off.
"Oh damnation!" Glorfindel groaned and went after him. He had to explain before it was to late. "Erestor! Wait!" He caught Erestor by the arm only to go reeling back, clutching his bleeding nose where Erestor had punched him.
"Do not ever approach me again or touch me. Go settle your little wager and leave me be!" Erestor said. He retreated into the homely house before Glorfindel could stop him again.
Bad timing on Glorfindel's part. R/R please!
