Chapter 24: Do I stir your passion?
Haldir awoke early, but didn’t move as he watched the beauty in his arms.
There were many things about this that were wrong; he defied his Lord for this, what could a prince want with a Marchwarden and how would this effect everything else?
Despite all of those wrongs Haldir couldn’t help but feel that this was so right.
As Legolas turned to curl into him Haldir smiled and pressed a light kiss to the top of his head despite the mild ache it caused him.
It wasn’t until he felt a light kiss against his chest that he knew the prince was awake, too, “Good morning, poikaer”
A light murmur similar to ‘good morning’ left the prince who all but mewled as he stretched out and shifted so that he could look at his Marchwarden, “I’ve… never slept this well.”
Haldir smiled at that, “I’m glad your rest was one of peace, Legolas”
Through lazy touches and lazier kisses they spend time in bed together for at least another hour before Legolas shifted and sat up, “Let me see your back”
Haldir complied as Legolas tended to the wounds and found them near healed already, “They’re almost entirely closed now”
The Marchwarden smiled, “It must be thanks to your sweet and loving care, prince of Mirkwood”
Though given no response, the prince pressed a light kiss to the Marchwarden’s shoulder as he reapplied the ointment and cloth.
The horn resounded through Caras Galadhon, giving rise to all those still at rest as it alerted them that breakfast had been served.
The two stood and dressed, slipping tunics back on and fashioning their hair before they departed to the halls. Together.
Haldir felt a moment of dreadful anticipation, but Legolas was the one to assure him this time by lacing their fingers together as they walked.
The prince clearly didn’t care about consequences or rumours now.
Haldir paused then, causing Legolas to look up at him in wonder before the Marchwarden cupped the prince’s cheeks and pressed a soft kiss to the rosy lips he could never get enough of.
His tongue darted out, trailing a path along those very same lips until they parted and his tongue slipped in to toy with the prince’s before a cough and a chuckle caused them to remember their whereabouts, “Good morning”
As Haldir drew back he send a warning glance to Orophin, who just grinned and moved on.
Legolas bit his lip as a blush coloured his cheeks and he pushed unto his toes to whisper softly to the taller Elf, “I think I want to go back to bed”
Now it was Haldir’s turn to grin, “Soon. First, you must feed a different appetite.”
The prince nodded and took the Marchwarden’s hand again as they continued their path to the halls.
They’d both been so distracted by simply enjoying each other’s company that neither of them had considered how this would work out with the Lord of Lothlorien present who clearly did not want the two together.
As they walked into the halls there was silence as eyes travelled to them, but with remarkable confidence Legolas strode past them all leading Haldir along with them, to find a seat at a table in the back.
As they sat down lord Celeborn stepped forth and demanded the attention of all those gathered. Legolas didn’t miss the look of hesitant fear in Haldir’s eyes, lacing their fingers back together in silent support as the Lord began to speak, “I am greatly saddened to speak to you all today. As some of you may remember, but many of you have forgotten our greatest Marchwarden has not come to us by natural birthright.”
There was a pause as silence through the halls increased and Haldir could feel the eyes upon him even as Lord Celeborn carried on, “In time, he gained trust and respect by showing remarkable skills in combat and leadership, directing him to his daily position. I myself take blame for allowing even he to forget the nature of his being here and alas, it seems I must now harshly remind him of it so that he shall no longer defy direct orders given. Haldir, do come forward”
The grip on his hand tightened as Legolas held unto it with a near death grip as he whispered, “You do not need to do anything of the sort Haldir, stay put”
But the Marchwarden, always replying to duty, stood nonetheless and made his way to the Lord with all the pride he could muster. He may have been bought as a body-slave, but that did not define him.
Lord Celeborn looked at the silver-haired beauty then whispered a soft, “You should have remembered that you belong to me, Haldir. Now I must humiliate you in such a way you shan’t ever forget it again”
“Stop this”
It was a single command and Haldir raised a brow as he recognized the source but it was Lord Celeborn who spoke, “My Grandson, I am afraid this is not the time to question me and the ways of my people.”
Elladan shook his head, “I know why you began doing this, Grandfather, but I ask you now to cease. Haldir is a man of honour, of great loyalty, who selflessly suffered to offer me a chance at a love that, truly, was never mine to have and never truly desired as such. He has followed your every command, always, you yourself gave him position, leadership. You do not question that now because he cannot keep away from the one who has his soul. You cannot.”
There was silence even as tension built within the room, “No one could follow such an order, no one can willingly give up on their hearts. And that love he feels? ‘Tis returned, returned by the prince of Mirkwood, whose station though seemingly forgotten surpasses your own. You do not interfere with this. If you should attempt such a thing, you shall lose your Grandson, in the process.”
There were gasps and whispers over the Lord’s authority being questioned as such, “He is mine”
Elladan shook his head, “He was never yours to claim Grandfather, you insult him and his brothers today by suggesting they did not earn the right to be a part of this community simply because they weren’t born within these woods and their parents died while they were still but little. Without them, Lothlorien would’ve lost many of its Guardians already.”
Though true, Lord Celeborn wasn’t keen on admitting that much, “We shall speak of this later, Elladan.”
Dark, cold eyes settled on Haldir then, “And you? I shall deal with you later.”
Haldir bowed his head as he moved back to Legolas who gently embraced him and kissed his lips, “You are mine, Marchwarden. I shan’t let it be otherwise.”
The Marchwarden smiled at that as he sat back down even while Elladan joined them, “I apologize… I learned of my Grandfather’s actions but yesterday… had I known this, it would’ve stopped long ago.”
Haldir inclined his head, “Thank you for speaking out, Lord Elladan, it is much appreciated.”
Legolas bowed his head too, “I am glad to know of your innocence in this, Elladan, when I discovered I feared that…”
Elladan nodded, “I understand that you did, I would’ve assumed the same had the roles been reversed.”
His eyes shifted to Haldir, “You must thank your brother for the revelation, I would not have known were it not for him, nor would I have realized that my… feelings for Legolas were… they were of little solid foundation. I was wrong to think I might lay ‘claim’ on him for it.”
As Orophin joined them, setting down a plate filled with all Elladan’s favourites he smiled while his eyes lingered on his brother and the prince as he spoke, “Elladan shall be a fine leader one day, do you not think so?”
Though Haldir seemed to be confused by the question, Legolas smiled as he noticed the light blush on Elladan’s cheek, “I do believe so, yes”
Orophin leaned in closer to the dark-haired Elf to whisper softly, “You should eat, lirimaer”
The blush darkened even more while Elladan bowed his head in gratitude for the meal provided.
Legolas lightly pressed a kiss to Haldir’s jaw but drew back as he noted the crowd gathering around them.
Standing, the lithe prince appeared quite intimidating as he faced them, aided by Elladan and Orophin who stood as well, providing a wall of protection for Haldir who remained seated.
It was Saelbeth who stepped forward and finally caused the Marchwarden himself to stand as the Healer spoke, “Our Lord does not share our thoughts. To us, you are every bit as much one of us as the rest is. You have earned our respect through what you have done for us and for our realm, knowing your background does naught to change that. We wished for you to know that”
Haldir smiled at the admission, bowing his head, “Hannon le”
The crowd dispersed and the four sat back down even as Legolas glanced over at Orophin and Elladan, “Are you two…? I mean you appear…”
The blush that had just left the Half-Elf’s cheeks returned full force at the inquiry but it was Orophin who –with a grin on his face- answered, “’Tis nothing as of yet, but I have announced my plans to court him.”
Elladan’s lips curved up into a light smile at the words, something Legolas didn’t miss as he casually observed, “That should be delightful.”
Haldir didn’t join in on the conversation, distracted and occupied with his own thoughts until Legolas lightly nudged him, /What is wrong?/
Haldir’s brow rose as he looked over at Legolas, /I was just thinking, what should you do with me? What would a prince do with a Marchwarden?/
A powerful image swept over him of Legolas straddling him, riding him with wild abandon.
A light cough escaped the Marchwarden at the image even as Legolas’ eyes twinkled mirthfully /I can think of a few things to do with you, Haldir/
Orophin and Elladan observed the odd exchange in front of them in silence, even as the silent conversation between the two went on. /I love you Haldir, that is enough./
But it wasn’t, was it? Lord Celeborn had said it himself /I am beneath you./ The words drew a smile from the prince, /Shame, I rather enjoyed you atop of me the last time…do you remember?/
At the memory Haldir drew in a sharp breath that didn’t go unnoticed by the other two, even as Legolas went on /If my father can be with your brother and no one challenges it, I can be with you./
The information hit Haldir like a cold shower, “You know of this? Rúmil and your father? Romantically?”
Orophin’s mouth fell open as he stared at Legolas, too, causing the prince to offer a sheepish smile, “It seems Haldir forgot to keep the conversation to ourselves… but yes, yes as it is they are already working on the ceremony they would like to have in order to announce their binding”
The two Galadhrim smiled at the revelation, then spoke in unison, “That is lovely news”
It meant their brother was happy and would want for nothing.
Legolas smiled and nodded then before he stood, “Would you excuse us? We have some… business to attend to”
Haldir’s brow lifted in wonder at Legolas’ words before another image claimed his thoughts and he grinned, “That is right. It cannot wait”
Not even waiting for an answer the two darted off together, causing Orophin to grin as he whispered to the twin, “I long to see you in such lust, lirimaer… Tell me, do I stir your passion?”
The hot breath tickled against his ear and the very suggestion alone had Elladan blushing before he nodded in confirmation.
Orophin smiled, “Good… that is good.”
