This story has been floating around in my mind and demanded to be written.
It features a darker Elladan than we are used to and a young vulnerable Legolas.
For the purpose of this story, I have decided (with some advice from the great
and wonderful Min.) that the age of majority for an elf is 500 years. Legolas
will reach his majority during the year of their betrothal. NO underage sex!!!
Feedback: Would be wonderful and makes me type faster!
Summary: Mithrandir has a talk with young Legolas as Elladan tries to
come with terms with the hand he has been dealt.Chapter TwoTaur-nu-Fuin
Mithrandir and Legolas walked along the paths of the gardens until they came
to a bench. “Sit with me, Legolas,” the Istari requested. “I grow older by
the year and my strength is not what it used to be.”
“You are stronger than I,” Legolas teasingly protested.“Yes, but you are much younger,” Mithrandir answered with a wink. “Tell
me, what has your father told you about what was discussed at the meeting in
Imladris?”“Nothing that pleases me,” Legolas answered honestly. “I do not
understand why I must bind to an elf who despises me as much as I despise him. I
always thought I would grow up and fall in love; now that seems impossible. Why
must I train to use a sword and learn more lore?”“Ai, my young Prince. There is much we don’t understand when it comes to
the wishes of the Valar,” Mithrandir explained, gently. “Their ways are not
meant for us to question. You are a child of light, and we have been instructed
to give you the best possible chance at success for the mission which you were
born for. If that means you must bind with Elladan, then it must be. Elladan is
a fine and honorable elf, well trained and a proven warrior. He will guide and
teach you everything you need to know.”“Who will teach me what love is supposed to be like? Who will show me
kindness and affection? Am I not worthy enough to know those things too?”
Legolas asked dejectedly. “The Valar may intend an alliance between our
realms, but it is Elladan and I who will suffer in the end. Bound to an enemy is
not how I saw my life unfolding.”“Perhaps the Valar have seen that you will not be enemies at all. Did you
think of that?” Mithrandir asked, rubbing the young elf’s shoulder. “They
see many things we do not. I cannot promise things will be easy for you,
Legolas, but you will grow and learn from everything you experience. My advice
is to try to befriend Elladan. You will be spending many hours with him on the
training fields, and it would be much better to do so with one you get along
with.”“I will do my best, Mithrandir,” Legolas promised solemnly. “Will no
one from Taur-nu-Fuin be making the trip with me?”“Only your personal guard, and they will return once you are settled in. Do
not look so disappointed, young one. You will be well cared for in Lord Elrond’s
home. He, too, is a fine elf. He is very wise, and the best healer in all of
Arda; and his wife, Celebrian, is very kind,” the Istari assured Legolas. “I
have a feeling you will like it at the Last Homely House. There is much to see
and do there.”“My father said that our binding will be in name only. Is this true,
Mithrandir?” Legolas asked, blushing. The wizard was clearly unprepared for the question and cleared his throat
several times trying to buy time to come up with a suitable answer. “I am sure
that will be left up to you and Elladan.” At Legolas’ shocked look, he
continued. “As I said before, Elladan is a fine elf and would not pressure you
into something you were not comfortable with.”“As my mate he would be entitled to…to…” Legolas’ eyes grew bigger
as he spoke.“Never you mind about that, young Legolas,” Mithrandir interrupted
hastily. “A provision will be added to the contract so that everyone
understands what is acceptable and allowed.”“Acceptable?” Legolas replied sitting up and turning to face the Istari.
“Is it acceptable that I will be taken from my home and bound to someone I do
not know? To live in a home where I am thought to be less of an elf than they? I
will be all alone, with no one to turn to for advice or even a caring embrace. I
will be left to fend for myself in a foreign land even before my majority. Tell
me, what is acceptable about that?”Mithrandir pulled Legolas into a tight embrace and held him a moment before
speaking. “You are brave, my young Prince, and you will be fine once you
settle in. The Valar would not be so cruel as to put you in a situation that was
impossible to live with. They are much wiser than even I give them credit for.
All will be well. I myself will visit the valley frequently and even winter
there. You will never be totally alone.”“I do not feel brave,” Legolas replied, his voice muffled against the
wizard’s chest. “I feel very young and scared.”“You will weather this like you have everything else in your young life,
Legolas,” Mithrandir promised gently. “With great poise and grace.”“I wish I had your confidence, Mithrandir.” Legolas replied softly.~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~ImladrisElladan left the training field tired, dusty, and ready for a bath. Removing
his vambraces as he walked, Elrohir joined him and asked if he would be
interested in a long soak with some of the other guards.“Not today, Elrohir. I am meeting with father and need to hurry if I am to
appear clean and clothed,” Elladan replied, walking faster.“About the wood elf?” Elrohir asked curiously.“Yes, about the wood elf and this crazy alliance. I really do not know what
is expected of me, or why I was even chosen. The Valar have a sense of humor, do
they not?” Elladan asked, laughing.“Aye, that they do,” Elrohir chuckled. “Who would have ever thought you
would be bound to anyone, much less an elfling wood elf.”“Certainly not me,” Elladan answered, leaving his brother behind. “I
will meet you later, Elrohir, for an ale at the barracks.”“Aye, sounds good,” Elrohir replied before heading to the public baths.~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~When a clean and clothed Elladan appeared in his father’s office a while
later, Elrond welcomed him and led him to the balcony outside the office.“I thought this would be a nice place to discuss what will happen,”
Elrond explained with a small forced smile. “The weather is perfect and I do
not want to be stuck inside all day.”“This is fine, father,” Elladan agreed and took a seat across from
Elrond. “Tell me more about what I am charged with. I do not understand what I
can offer that another elf cannot. I was, and still am, not interested in
binding with anyone. I have little patience with the young elves who are
training to be in our guard, and will have less with a wood elf.”“One thing you must do is stop calling him a wood elf,” Elrond advised
firmly. “His name is Legolas and you should never refer to him as anything but
Legolas. The prince is young, my son, and is being taken away from everything he
has ever known and brought here. It is not his fault all this is happening, just
as it is not yours.”“Nay, it is not and I shall try to remember that,” Elladan promised
quietly. “I am to teach him to be a warrior, but if I have heard correctly, he
is well skilled with the bow. Am I to teach him to wield a sword?”“I do not know the answer to that, but there is something more important we
must discuss today, Elladan,” Elrond replied hesitantly. “Legolas will reach
his majority while he is here and you will be bound a year from his arrival. I
do not have to remind you how difficult it is to be at such an age, do I?”“Nay, I remember well the feelings and struggles,” the elf warrior
replied.“I know you are an elf of honor, but I must remind you that you must never
try to take advantage of his age and size. Legolas will not be fully grown, but
will be as you were when you were at that age, not yet filled out,” Elrond
cautioned.“Father, I have no intention of engaging in any activity with Legolas that
will jeopardize his virginity. I thought this was a binding in name only, just
for an alliance,” Elladan replied confused.“I believe that will be left up to you and Legolas to decide,” the Elf
lord replied slowly. “The contract protects him at all costs. He is, after
all, the reason we have to discuss these
things.”“I am not going to seduce him, father,” Elladan replied with a sigh. “It
is likely he will despise me as much as I will despise him. I do not think you
have to worry about anything untoward happening, even after we are bound. I
would not force anyone; I do not have to. There are plenty to fill my bed if I
so chose to dally. Of course, once I am bound that will end. A life of chastity…it
is good that I enjoyed more than my fair share when it came to carnal activities
when I was younger, is it not?”“Do not take that tone with me, Elladan,” Elrond retorted angrily. “This
was not what I would have chosen for you. You were chosen by the Valar and they
have their reasons for doing what they do. You should count this as an honor
instead of something dreadful. Who knows what might become of you and Legolas?”Elladan laughed bitterly as he stood and walked to
the edge of the balcony to look out over the valley. “I will do my duty,
father, as the Valar have stated, but I will not be truly bound to anyone,
especially not some spoiled, half-grown, prince of a wood elf!”Elrond shook his head and sighed. “You tempt the Valar with your
willfulness, my son.”
