@Raevyn: I don't know if I'll let Elrohir find happiness. They're all getting too happy lovey-dovey…. I feel the great need to mess something up, somehow. It needs drama! Sooooo no one is safe *cackles*
Chapter 31: The best in me
Haldir deeply wished to go with Legolas, to see his brother's wedding and to be at Legolas' side for it all. Though Lord Celeborn did not seek to claim him as before, Haldir still didn't think the Lord was supportive of their match.
Haldir sought to seek some type of greater approval from King Thranduil, whose rank was greater than his Lord's.
Perhaps it was all this talk about weddings, but Haldir wanted the same for himself and Legolas. Wanted to make it official and share it with the world.
Forever hardly seemed long enough.
He had left Legolas, telling him he was going to ask the Lord Celeborn permission, but as he stood before his Lord's talan, Haldir hesitated.
If he went with Legolas and had Thranduil's blessing… what then?
Would they live here, or live in Mirkwood?
He knocked on the door before he could think of more problems, but was greatly surprised to find a barely dressed Saelbeth answering the door.
"Who disturbs us, Voronwer?"
A heavy blush then coloured Saelbeth's cheeks, "It is Haldir, my Lord."
Rustling, then the Lord's voice came again, "Very well, let him in."
As he entered, Haldir could not help but glance around, noting the many many candles, the rose petals… Clearly he had interrupted something special, "My Lord, I… This can wait, truly…"
Lord Celeborn stood, wrapping his robe tighter around him, "Tell me what is on your mind, Haldir."
Uncomfortable now, Haldir averted his gaze to the floor, "I wished to ask my Lord for permission to travel with Legolas to attend my brother and the King's wedding."
Silence greeted him as the Lord considered the request, "You know these are troubled times for our realm, Haldir, truly I should not let our most respected and skilled guard leave."
Haldir lifted his gaze just in time to watch Saelbeth press a light kiss to his Lord's chest. Loving, gently, a lover's touch.
It was then that Lord Celeborn continued, "As it is, I cannot deny you this. Go with him, stay for the wedding, but then return to us. Lothlorien needs you here."
Haldir bowed his head, "Yes my lord, gratitude."
The Lord nodded, then waved his hand in dismissal, "Now go, unless you intent to watch as I make love to this beautiful creature."
No. No Haldir did not intent any of the sort. He was out of there in a heartbeat, leaving the Lord to chuckle softly while Saelbeth stripped his Lord of his robes again, "That was sweet of you, my Lord."
Lord Celeborn smiled, brushing his fingers through Saelbeth's hair, "It would seem you bring out the best in me, Voronwer."
Saelbeth blushed, but smiled at the same time, "Now let us bring out… other things"
He found no argument.
Lord Celeborn lightly pushed Saelbeth back unto the bed, peeling away the leggings the Elf had put on again but moments before, "You call me Master, but I believe we both know how much of this is controlled by you. I could not deny you anything."
There was a light smile to Saelbeth's lips, "Then don't, have me, heruamin, know that you can always have me, should you so choose. I am yours."
The words awoke a passion and a love the Lord had long forgotten he could feel, "And I am yours, Saelbeth, do not ever doubt this."
Despite the origins of their arrangement, it had become so much more than that.
Lord Celeborn pressed light kisses to Saelbeth's lips, lightly biting at his lower lip. The younger Elf responded with soft excited moans as his fingers ran down his Lord's body.
Their coupling was never the same; it changed from a heavy dose of dominance to gentle lovemaking so often it sometimes left the Healer dizzy.
Tonight was no different, but he knew the Lord had been right; he controlled it as much as his Lord did, sometimes even more so.
Pushing the right buttons had become quite a talent of his, one he indulged in more often than not.
Tonight was no different as he orchestrated their coupling to suit his desires as he moved on top of his Lord and started his torture.
Líndir waited, silently, as Elrohir considered what answer to give. He knew, of course, that he was right, but he wanted to hear it from the Peredhel.
Elrohir sighed in frustration. He did not want to admit to his own stupidity. He did not want to admit to his father's minstrel that he was lonely. Admitting it would only make it more real.
He didn't know what to say, or what to do, so instead he nodded. Just nodded. Yes, Líndir was right.
The dark-haired Elf reached out to brush the tear away, "What has moved you to tears, Aier?"
Aier. Elrohir frowned at the teasing nickname Líndir had always used for him. Short one.
Elrohir looked at the Elf, muttering softly, "I am still older than you."
Líndir chuckled, "Yes, indeed, by three hours. For each hour I got an extra inch."
Despite his sadness, Elrohir couldn't keep a smile from appearing.
"Now answer my question, Elrohir. What has you so upset?"
A soft mumbled sentence came as an answer, but even with his Elven hearing, Lindir could not make out what he said, "What was that?"
"I am tired of being alone. Everyone has found their great love and I, I am alone."
Líndir looked at him, "Do you not believe that is mostly because of your own doing?"
Elrohir frowned, "You think I choose to be alone?"
The minstrel shook his head, "I do not think you mean to be alone, I do think that you needn't be."
Though the words were spoken to offer comfort, they fed only the despair that Elrohir already felt, "Elladan barely has time to spend with me anymore, Ada is busy with Glorfindel… And you, you are always busy helping Erestor."
Líndir offered a light smile at that, "I would be busy spending time with you, if you but truly cared to… You never did."
There was silence for but a moment before Elrohir spoke again, "I did not think you cared for me. You and Erestor would often stop talking whenever I drew near, or you suddenly had some chore to finish."
It was true, Líndir had often avoided the Half-Elf, "Do you not know why?"
A shake of the head, no, Elrohir did not know.
Líndir sighed softly then, "Because I was never your first choice. Even though I so wished I was."
Elrohir was going to argue with that, but he knew it was true. He never turned to Líndir unless others were busy. Not intentionally, but he knew Líndir was right. Elrohir looked at the minstrel then, truly looked at him, "I am sorry, Líndir. It was not a thing I did by choice."
The other nodded, Líndir knew that. It still hurt, "Is that why you would never sit with me in the dining halls, too?"
No. No, that was not the reason.
Líndir shook his head, "I feared embarrassing myself. You must understand that I felt you thought I was inferior, a last resort rather than a friend, whereas I, I always hoped for you to… to notice me for more than that. To want to be with me for me and not because there was no one else for you to spend your time with. Erestor knew of this, he was the only one I trusted enough to share my problems, my feelings with."
The words stirred a guilt in Elrohir, he had never known how deeply Líndir felt for him. He had never paid attention.
Here he had been pitying himself because no one cared, where Líndir had it much worse; he cared, but his care was not even seen, "I am a horrible person, aren't I?"
Líndir knew there were a lot of different thoughts on that matter. Some thought Elrohir was arrogant, proud and cold, but he knew better.
Líndir had observed Elrohir more than anyone and if anything the Half-Elf was insecure and shy.
Elladan was the outgoing one, the one who could befriend anyone, the one who was always liked.
Elrohir… Elrohir simply lacked that subtlety, that social understanding on how to be liked. He was the scholar, in every way. He was insecure in his interactions with others, often overcompensating to ensure others would like him as they did his brother.
Yet, Elrohir was perfect as he was, if only he learned to embrace that.
Unapproachable, like many thought Erestor to be. Few bothered to look past that, but Líndir always had, "Come, let us walk for a bit?"
Elrohir nodded, "I would like that."
It was strange how things could change in the blink of an eye, Lord Elrond thought to himself as he watched Líndir and his son.
There seemed to be a greater peace lingering in the air of Lothlorien. It was interesting to watch the pairings unfold.
Some he had foreseen and others, others had come unexpected.
This was not all he had seen, "Must I warn them for what is to come? Must I reveal the potential tragedies of their futures while now they know such happiness? Tell me, Glorfindel, what do you think I should do? "
Some great things were about to happen, Elrond could see it. Things that would change the worlds of many that now lingered within the realm, but more than that, a greater evil that would forever change the Fate of all who lived upon Arda.
Some envied his gift of sight, but Glorfindel knew that his beloved would do anything not to see the things he had seen. Not to know.
Middle Earth would forever be changed. Many would fall from the world.
And the world would change. Just like that.
Where one curse had seemingly lifted, another seemed more than eager to take its place.
One that would alter the lives of every living creature.
Glorfindel looked at Elrond, "Let them live their lives. None would be better off knowing the things you shared with me. Time will reveal many of these things as they come. Nothing is set in stone, you know that."
Elrond gave a small nod, "I do suppose you are right, Aratoamin. You would know this best of all."
But still he did not care to think about it. So many lives lost, so much happiness forever ruined.
Darkness would come. Still years from now, but it would come.
He could see it. Clear as day.
Everything would change.
