“Do not leave me,” Thranduil whispered again, though he knew the plea useless.
“I must, melethen,” his lover sighed, fingers twining in sunlit tresses. “He will need me now, more than ever.”
“And I do not?” the king retorted, ashamed even as the sharp words sounded.
Glistening sapphire eyes met a sorrowful emerald gaze. “Nay, you do not need me,” Glorfindel replied, pressing a tender kiss to Thranduil’s mouth. “And that makes your wanting all the more precious. I will wait for you.”
“And I will come,” Thranduil promised, as he watched his lover join Elrond aboard the white ship. “I will come.”
