Erestor froze as he was granted the gentlest of gentle kisses. His eyes fluttered closed at the contact and his heart skipped a beat. It had been far too long since anyone had touched him and Erestor found himself longing for a deeper, firmer contact. As Glorfindel pulled away, Erestor leaned forward in an attempt to prolong the kiss before he caught himself. After a moment, he opened his dark eyes to gaze into the deep blue across from him. Was it his imagination or had Glorfindel’s eyes gotten darker?
Erestor swallowed hard, resisting the urge to lick the spot on his lips that the golden elf had kissed. Speaking of which, Glorfindel seemed to be nervously awaiting his reaction. He had to clear his throat before he felt able to speak. Since when did a peck affect him so strongly? “I believe I would be comfortable with such a display, Glorfindel,” he said quietly. The smile that earned him made his knees go weak and suddenly Erestor wanted to truly kiss the other elf. “However, would it not appear suspicious if you always kiss the CORNER of my mouth?” he asked quietly before his throat closed up. Erestor saw the surprise in Glorfindel’s eyes and had to look away, his face red at this point. He couldn’t believe he was being so brazen, but he hadn’t felt truly loved in a long time. If he wanted to be honest the more he was around Glorfindel, he was being reminded of how much he had always liked the golden elf. “You wish me to kiss you fully?” the other elf's deep voice was amused and he tried not to take it wrong. When he finally looked back up, there was still humor in those blue eyes, but something else that nearly stopped Erestor’s heart… a very deep longing. Mustering up his courage, all he could do was nod. The smile on Glorfindel’s face suddenly felt different, warmer and more intimate. It felt like a smile that was meant solely for him alone. It left the councilor breathless. Glorfindel placed both hands on either side of the darker elf’s face, slowly moving them closer. Erestor’s eyes fell closed once more, his breath quickening in anticipation of the kiss. The large hands on his face were warm, nearly setting him aflame. It was nothing compared to the lips that touched his. Once again Erestor found himself surprised at the gentleness of the other elf’s kiss. He had not known such gentleness since his first with Sirloke. After that, all their other encounter’s had been… at the time he had wanted to say passionate, but now, he could only label them as violent. Nothing compared to what he was feeling from this simple connection with the golden elf. Glorfindel’s fingers stroked slow circles on his neck, as if memorizing him by touch while his lips were busy mapping his mouth. Fire shot down his spine to pool in his belly at the first careful touch of Glorfindel’s tongue against the seam of his lips. He wanted nothing more than to grant access to that questing warmth, but with the fire, came fear. What was he doing? He couldn’t lose himself to another, not again. If he became completely immersed again, he wasn’t certain if he would ever reemerge once the inevitable break happened. The thought terrified him. He never wanted to feel the terrible cold, slowly creeping over him as it consumed his Fea. A dark beast fed constantly by his despair. He had defeated it once but doubted he’d have the strength to do so again. Erestor jerked backwards out of the kiss, his panic making him move so fast he nearly pulled Glorfindel off of his feet. The golden elf released him quickly, realizing too late his mistake. They stood there watching one another for a moment, both breathing a little heavily. Erestor swallowed hard before attempting an explanation. “S-sorry, Glorfindel. I… I just…” “No, Erestor. I took a liberty I shouldn’t have, I’m sorry,” Glorfindel cut him off, looking truly ashamed of himself. It helped Erestor get his breath back and he took a deep one. “You seem to be apologizing a lot to me today…” he remarked, giving a shaky smile. Glorfindel’s lips twitched upwards. “Unfortunately it seems to be warranted. I am sorry.” “It’s all right. I asked for a kiss after all… it’s just… I’m not…” “I know,” Glorfindel said when Erestor was unable to finish his thought. “I shall not be taking any further liberties while we are together. That is… if you still wish for me to accompany you?” Erestor smiled a little bigger. “I trust your word, Glorfindel. And yes, I would still be glad of the company.” “In that case, may I sit beside you at dinner tonight?” Erestor held back a sigh. Glorfindel was back to being very formal with him and while he was glad for the distance while he gathered himself, the other elf had just kissed him. That should have warranted a break in the formality. He cleared his throat and straightened his tunic, if only to have something for his hands to do. “I would like that very much… my friend,” he added hopefully, trying to tell Glorfindel that he wasn’t angry. It must have worked because Glorfindel visibly relaxed, his hands going down to his sides rather than being clasped behind his back and his shoulders noticeably slacking. “I should change before dinner then.” “I’ll leave you to get ready.” Erestor moved to the door, but paused, rerunning what Glorfindel had said earlier in his mind. “‘Any further liberties’?” He quoted, turning back to the other elf. “Does that mean… well… does that mean… no more kisses at all?” That warm, somehow intimate smile graced Glorfindel’s lips again. “Simply that I will not kiss you without permission and I will take my queues from you,” he explained, secretly pleased at Erestor’s relief. “Will that be all right?” “Yes. That’s a good idea,” Erestor answered, trying not to grin. He turned and walked out of the room, only looking back once more. “See you at dinner.” Glorfindel waited until he was certain Erestor was out of earshot before giving his reply. “I look forward to it, dear one.” *** It wasn’t until he was once again on ground level that Erestor realized how strange he must seem to Glorfindel. He practically begged for a kiss, panicked in the middle of it almost to the point of hyperventilation, and then was disappointed when he thought they wouldn’t be kissing again at all. Oh, Valar! Glorfindel must think that he’s crazy! Erestor didn’t have long to dwell on it though before he found himself tackled to the ground by two full-grown, dark-haired Peredhil. He let out a great ‘OOMPH!’ as he hit the forest floor and glared up into two identical grins. “Despite how you two act, you are NOT young Ellons anymore, and neither am I!” he scolded, his own grin breaking through as his old charges laughed. Elrohir was the first to get off of him but it was Elladan that hauled him back to his feet. Once he had been set right, the twins took turns squeezing the newly recovered air out of him. “We heard you arrived and decided to take a running start,” Elrohir said, grinning as he released his old mentor. “Besides, you’re a lot younger then you think,” Elladan piped in, giving Erestor a good smack on the back and nearly sending him to the ground. He coughed a little and caught himself. “Yes, well, you needn’t prove it by cracking my ribs,” he admonished them, laughing as Elladan and Elrohir completely ignored his complaints. “Come! You have yet to meet most of the elves attending my party! “Elrohir exclaimed. Each twin hooked an arm and began dragging him off to do the rounds. Erestor shot a plaintive look back at his lord, only to find Elrond snickering and heading in a different direction with an equally giggling Haldir. He sighed and resigned himself to his fate, knowing the twins would not be done with him until dinner. As fond as he was of them, the meal couldn’t come fast enough. … Glorfindel was unable to contain his laughter as a rather ruffled looking Erestor sat beside him at the dining table. “The twins got a hold of you didn’t they?” he asked, leaning an arm against the table and smiling brightly at the councilor. Erestor just glared at him and Glorfindel giggled. “You just wait until those two have a run at you. You won’t be giggling then!” the darker elf shot at him, bristling a little at being laughed at. “Oh, come now. You look lovely with your feathers ruffled a bit,” Glorfindel told him, placing an arm about his shoulders and leaning in just a little. Erestor felt all of his irritation leave him at the simple comment from the other elf. It was accompanied by another breathtaking smile and Erestor found himself smiling despite himself. He gave Glorfindel a playful shove away. “I haven’t missed the wine have I?” he asked, not willing to acknowledge the heat in his face, again. Glorfindel just laughed, gratefully leaving Erestor’s personal space to reach for a goblet. “You did, but I managed to save you a glass,” he explained, placing the cup in Erestor’s hand. “No easy feat I may add. Lorien elves drink far more than is healthy for an elf.” “Watch yourself Glorfindel! I may have to challenge you for that,” Haldir called playfully across the table, elves up and down bursting into laughter. Glorfindel made a rude gesture, which was returned, joined by more laughter, before turning back to his blushing companion. “Indeed it seems to me I have missed the first round. Everyone is much farther along than I,” Erestor added shyly. There was a moment of silence where even Glorfindel seemed taken aback by the comment, before the table burst into fresh rounds of laughter. “What seems to be so amusing?” Galadriel asked, seating herself regally at the head of the table, next to her husband who was smiling indulgently at the friendly banter. “I believe, my lady, Erestor just told a joke!” Haldir exclaimed in disbelief, the councilor blushing pure crimson now as the lady’s eyes landed on him. They were filled with amusement and a small smile graced her lips. “I see. Well I am sad to have missed such an extraordinary event,” she said, sending a wink Erestor’s way and bringing a small smile to his face. “You will have to recount if for me later.” “Perhaps he could recount it now!” another elf a little further down the table shouted. There was a resounding noise of agreement, from which Erestor ducked down in his chair. Before any more demands could be made, Elrond stood and raised his hands. Immediately the entire banquet went silent. “I am sure we’re all in shock by this display,” he said grinning. “However; we are here for quite a different reason than to speculate at Erestor’s sense of humor.” Elrond motioned for Elrohir and Rumil to stand, the couple side by side, hands clasped and matching joyous smiles. “Dear Friends and family. This is indeed a time of joy and celebration, and one of the proudest moments a father can ever experience. The bonding of my son, Elrohir Peredhil, to his love, Rumil of Lorien,” Elrond paused as the table applauded, beaming at his son. “I first encountered Rumil when he was still quiet young…” As Elrond continued in his speech, Glorfindel found he was only half listening, his attention mostly commanded by the vision that sat beside him. Erestor was absolutely beautiful with his raven hair cascading down his back and his dark eyes focused on the proceedings. The love that shone in his gaze as he watched the young peredhil with his intended lit up his face in a way Glorfindel had seldom seen from the councilor. Erestor was absolutely breathtaking and Glorfindel was given a glimpse of who the darker elf had been before his heart break. Unable to resist, he slowly slid his hand beneath the table over to Erestor’s, gently taking a pale hand in his. Dark eyes looked at him, surprise and a little confusion. Glorfindel just smiled and was relieved to get the small, shy, delighted smile on his friend’s face in return. But it vanished just as quick as it had come. It took Glorfindel a moment to realize that the other elf’s gaze had moved beyond him. What had been a gentle squeeze in return became a death grip on his hand and Glorfindel didn’t need to look to know what drained Erestor of the color he had. He had spotted Sirloke.
