Chapter 5--Secret Revealed
Elrond carefully splinted Glorfindel's arm and ankle then sank into a chair. He gestured to Erestor to join them.
Erestor reluctantly left his spot by the window and sat down as well.
"Well? I would like to know what happened," Glorfindel said.
"I suppose you should have been told a long time ago. Erestor is a Guardian, Glorfindel," Elrond said.
"Erestor a guardian, a warrior trained as a master of unarmed fighting? He's an advisor, a scribe!" Glorfindel said. He had heard of Guardians. They were specialized warriors trained in unarmed combat. They were usually placed in a noble house as scribes and other positions that would be close to the lord and his family. His or her abilities were hidden from anyone, but the lord. They were sworn to die protecting the lord and his family if necessary. Erestor just didn't seem the type.
"Come, Glorfindel. I would think you who accepts female warriors into your forces would be more willing to accept this. The hands that work a loom or a needle can also draw a bow or wield a sword. Is the hand that wields a quill less capable?" Erestor asked.
Glorfindel stared as it hit him that Erestor and Elrond looked very serious. "I can not believe this. Why did you not tell me? I am the leader of the guards. Did you not think I should know?" he asked.
"I requested that you not be told. I felt that it might cause trouble and it is something that should be spread about to casually or I can not do what I have sworn to do as effectively," Erestor said.
"I suppose not, but it is the last thing I expected. I always thought," Glorfindel began then stopped.
"Do not bother finishing. I am well aware what you and many others think of me and frankly I do not care," Erestor said. He stood. "Just remember that this is a secret and must remain so. May I be excused, Elrond?"
"Of course, but after you change into more comfortable clothes I expect you back here," Elrond said.
"I beg your pardon, Lord Elrond, but I do not understand," Erestor said.
Elrond gave his advisor a stern look. "Your actions caused my seneschal's injuries, so you will be in charge of attending to his needs. That is my command, Erestor. You are excused long enough to change," he said.
It was clear from the look on Erestor's face that he wanted to protest, but since his Lord had made it a command he couldn't. He nodded and left the room.
"I do not know if this is such a wise idea. He might smother me in my sleep," Glorfindel said.
"Then I would be careful not to give him a reason too," Elrond retorted.
"You are not much help, mellon-nin," Glorfindel grumbled. "If something does happen then it is on your head."
Erestor entered his room with his thoughts reeling. It would take two weeks for the bones to heal no doubt and he would be stuck with Glorfindel until them. The seneschal was going to drive him insane. Muttering under his breath, Erestor exchanged his robe for a black shirt and a pair of gray leggings the headed back to Glorfindel's chamber. Pausing outside, he took a deep breath and entered.
Elrond nodded and stood. "I have much to do," he said. "If there is any problem summon me and that means with the injuries." He left the room.
Glorfindel grinned at Erestor. "Alone at last," he leered.
"Save your juvenile behavior for someone that finds it amusing, seneschal. I am not impressed," Erestor returned sharply. A soft knock on the door distracted them and Erestor went to answer it.
Glorfindel grinned as he studied Erestor. He does have a very fine backside, much finer then I thought actually, he thought.
Erestor closed the door and went to a chair to sit down. "A servant will serve dinner here tonight," he said.
"Sounds good to me though I think I might need help," Glorfindel said.
"You only have one broken arm," Erestor snapped.
"Aye, but my other hand is sprained from your little stunt with the book, remember?" Glorfindel asked. "So I will require help."
The next few hours weren't easy. Glorfindel tried to draw Erestor into a conversation, but the advisor refused to cooperate. Finally there was a knock. Erestor answered then returned with a plate of food.
"Dinner, at last. Good, I am starved," Glorfindel said suggestively.
Erestor snorted and placed the tray onto Glorfindel's lap. "Stop it," he grumbled.
Glorfindel grinned. "Well? Help me eat before it gets cold," he said.
Erestor muttered, but did so.
Glorfindel enjoyed it immensely. The food was gone all to soon for his taste. "Thank you, lirimaer," he said.
"Do callcall me that!" Erestor snapped.
"Why? It is only the truth. You are lovely," Glorfindel said. He was delighted when Erestor blushed.
"I am not one of your many lovers and I never will be, so stop this nonsense!" Erestor said. He took the empty tray and set it in the hall where a servant could pick it up.
Glorfindel laughed to himself at the frustrated advisor. This was not going to be as bad as he thought.
Once again sorry this took so long and a big thanks to those that reviewed! Your encouragement keeps me going!
