Twelve months later, they were doing a practice duel which Aragorn was winning but then it turned around to where Tari was starting to kick his butt, when he finally knocked the sword from her hand and her feet from under her when he aimed his sword at her throat.
“Very good, Tari, you handled it like a young lady who been using a sword for years instead of twelve months,” smiled Aragorn, as he helped her up from the ground.
“Yes, but I’m still not that good to have got beaten by her own ancestor who wields a sword like it was nothing, Aragorn,” smiled Tari, as she looked at him.
The next thing Aragorn knew; he was defending himself from many sword swings from Tari as she surprised him with attacking him so fast and quick. Aragorn started to get a little swifter with his swings which she blocked. Soon, his sword was out of his hand and her sword at his throat.
She smiled as she looked at him. “I surprised you, didn’t I?”
Aragorn took a few breaths as she helped him to stand up and picking his sword up off the ground. He spoke, “You surprised me greatly, Tari. Any swordsman who would go after you would be in for a big surprise.”
A week later, Aragorn knew she was ready for her archery lessons as they would duel for several hours before they stopped as they were now too evenly matched. He sat down on the ground with his sword and Tari’s by his side.
Legolas and Tari were standing close whispering quietly to each other. Aragorn thought about them; it was then when he realized that Legolas was falling for Tari by how he was looking at her and holding her hand in his. He hoped that Tari was feeling the same way about the elf too.
Tari noticed how close Legolas was to her and just having him standing next to her helping her with holding her bow even better than before was making her get butterflies in her stomach. She fired off an arrow only to miss the target. She lowered her head, “I’m sorry. I blew that shot.”
Legolas looked at her and whispered, “No, that shot was a fluke. The next one will be even better.”
He backed away from her and watched as she pulled out her arrow and fired only to see another arrow fly next to hers. She swung around to see Legolas with his bow in hand and his thin lips drawn tight, eyes locked on the target. He looked simply well words could not state how amazing he looked to her. She watched him as he pulled out another arrow and fired it at the target, only to hit it dead center. He did it till all of his arrows were spent from his quiver.
Tari was quick about turning back to the target with her own arrows. The arrows struck the target and splitting couple of Legolas’s arrows at the same time. She turned to look at him as she smiled big but then lowered her head and frowned as she become conscious that Legolas might not be too pleased with what had happened to two of his arrows.
Legolas noticed out of his left eye her smile which quickly turned to a frown before it was hidden by her hair as she lowered her head. He had hurried towards the target and saw the reason why she frowned. Two of his were destroyed by her arrows – the shafts were cut in half. That was the handiwork of a master archer. She was equal to his earlier years when he was barely 200 years old. ‘Another century and she should be completely equal to me.’ Then he realized that she will not live that long and the pained look on his face was brief as he gazed at her. ‘Maybe before we leave, she’ll be my equal in archery. My teacher will be pleased that I taught someone how to be an equal to a full blood elf.’
“Legolas, I hope you don’t mind me asking this but I would like to learn how to speak elven,” said Tari, looking at him as he walked towards her with his quiver full of his arrows and in his hand was her own.
“I’ll teach you as we continue to practice with the arrows,” acknowledged Legolas. He walked over to Aragorn. “Aragorn, I'm going be teaching her how to speak elven while we finish up the arrow lessons and then we'll start on daggers tomorrow.”
Aragorn nodded as Legolas walked back to Tari’s side as he watched Legolas start to teach her the basics of elven language as they practiced more with the targets. They were working the rest of the week with the archery training and the elven language lessons.

Aragorn nestled himself against the wall of the house watching them practice with the daggers. It had been over two and a half weeks since they started to practice with the daggers. He started to get sleepy watching them as he looked around trying to keep awake. He stood up and headed for the pasture where he started to work on bringing in the archery targets so the horses wouldn’t push them over and break them.
Just as he reached the side of the fence, the worst sight beheld to him before Gandalf had supposedly died, Tari’s face had the look of pain as she started to fall to the ground. Legolas’s scream echoed into his ears as Legolas grabbed her before she struck the ground for the hilt of his dagger was visible within Tari’s stomach.
“TARI…NO!” Aragorn screamed out, as he leapt over the fence and rushed to her side. “Tari, don’t move. Legolas, what happened?”
Legolas cried, “I stabbed her, Aragorn but it was an accident. I didn’t mean to.”
“I know, Legolas. Keep her head up. Get your quiver and put it behind her neck, it will keep her from passing out on us. Tari, stay with us. I’m going to check the wound now,” Aragorn said, turning towards the wound and knew they needed that dagger out as he started to remove her shirt around the wound. He was intent on getting her wound healed, even though it was a fatal one to her.
Legolas finished putting his quiver behind her neck when his hand brushed against her ear; he felt something different on her ears. He pushed her hair aside to reveal. “Elven ears, Aragorn, look!”
Aragorn looked at the ears before he took the dagger from the ground and removed part of Tari’s clothing around the dagger. “It probably is from her father’s side, Legolas. We will need bandages when I remove the dagger from Tari.”
Tari tried to speak but Aragorn just shushed her as he removed the clothing from around the dagger. She whispered, “Please…Aragorn…just remove the dagger. It will be okay. I’ll be okay.”
"No, the wound is deep. It could have hurt the inner organs," Aragorn said.
"I know," Tari glanced away from Aragorn to look at Legolas and whispered in elven, “Adrinco i sigil. Ú-gwannathon. Pân nathon. Im nathon*."
That sentence made Legolas look twice at her. Legolas looked at Aragorn and stated calmly, "Aragorn, maybe you should listen to her? She wants the dagger out now."
“But she’ll bleed to death, Legolas, if we remove the dagger now!” snapped Aragorn. "I know there is medical herbs within her home. I have seen them. I can heal her wound after I remove the dagger from her body."
“Trust her! Please?” beseeched Legolas, grabbing his arm.
Aragorn looked at him and then to Tari. “Tari, do you want the dagger out now without being able to catch the blood that will be spilt?”
“Yes, just do it.” whispered Tari, looking at them both.
Aragorn nodded as his hand wrapped around the dagger and with one strong yank towards himself – the dagger was removed. They watched as the blood flowed from the wound. Aragorn couldn't help but to stick his finger into the wound and felt around in it. He looked at her. "I don't think it hit anything vital. I want to bandage it up and get it stitched up so there would be no infection which could kill you, Tari."
“As long as I stay living, that's fine by me.” said Tari calmly, as she looked at them.
“All right, Legolas, carry her into her room. I'm going to get the herbs prepared!” snapped Aragorn.
“The medical herbs are in my pantry, the one in the kitchen next to the outside door.” spoke Tari, as she tried to sit up but Legolas refused to let her.
Legolas carried her into her room and placed her within her bed. He placed his hand over her wound waiting for Aragorn to return with the bandages and the medical herbs. "I'm sorry, Tari. I shouldn't have removed the sheaths on the daggers."
"Do not worry about it, Legolas. It was an accident. A pure accident. No one could have known that it would happen. Accidents happen to teach us," Tari said. “That’s what Hugo told me.”
“Who is Hugo?” asked Aragorn, looking at her as he helped her to lie back down. He had in his hand some medical herbs which he placed on the wound before he took the bandages and started to wrap the wound with it. "This accident will hampen training with the daggers for at least a full turn of the moon. Who is this Hugo?"
“Hugo Weaving is my dad’s best friend and in a sense my godfather. He’s the only one who believes that Saul killed my father and mother. He was the one who told me what my mother told him the day she died. I knew she was an elf but I never knew she . . . my mother would give me her immortality.”
“Is that why you survived the poisoning?” asked Legolas.
“Yes, if it wasn’t for that…I would be dead and the line of Gondor would have been dead for almost nine years.” Tari stated, calmly.
It was another full turn of the moon before they were outside dealing with the daggers again. This time, the sheaths were on the daggers. Tari didn't want to test her luck again with the daggers.
She and Legolas dueled with the daggers for several hours. Tari knew they didn't mention what she had revealed to them a full turn of the moon before and she knew that they would ask her about it. She kept the subject to the daggers and refused to answer any question about why she hid her heritiage from them. It was late in the afternoon, when the loud crack of thunder was heard as Tari stood up with the help of Aragorn and Legolas, “We must get everything indoors now. That storm is coming closer.”
Aragorn yelled as he headed towards the barn at a quick pace, “I’ll tend to the horses tonight, Tari!”
Tari was about to go after him when she felt a hand on her shoulder. She turned to see Legolas standing there. Within his eyes shown his fear, worry about her and also something else. She placed her hand on his cheek and spoke, “I’m sorry that I didn’t tell you sooner. I was afraid of what you and Aragorn would hate me for not revealing my heritage.”
Then, she turned away and headed into the house at a wobbly pace. Legolas went after her and grabbed her arm. He made her face him. “What do you think we would hate you for hiding your identity of being an elf from us?”
“My mother told me never to reveal what I am to people. Just let them assume it’s fake when you are at the tourney. It’s the only way to be at peace if they knew you are the daughter of a full blood elf, they’ll start searching for our people harder than before and we’ll be pushed further away from Middle Earth. So I kept them hidden and hid my true parentage of being the daughter of a full blood elf and the diluted blood of an elf,” Tari stated, as she poured three goblets of wine, she pushed one to Legolas and took one and did a draught that was a lot more than what she usually took with one sip.
Legolas knew she was trying to get drunk as he took hold of the goblet from her and put it further away from her hand. “Tari, don’t drink so much. Are you upset with yourself about revealing what you are to us?”
“Yes! I broke my number one rule with myself. I told myself I would never ever tell anyone about my elven parentage,” Tari stated as she looked at her hands.
“But who you told was an elf and your grand sire, Tari. You didn’t break your rule at all...I been trying to hide my feelings but I can’t anymore I’m in love with you, Tari Lightfeather,” spoke Legolas, as his hand gently went around her neck as his lips claimed hers.
In the doorway was Aragorn watching the whole scene, he knew now that Legolas revealed his love for her, she’ll either have to reveal her own to him if there is any feelings of love coming from Tari to Legolas at all. They pulled away as she quickly looked away from him for a few moments before she placed her hands on his cheek and went close to his ear. Tari said something that was unheard before she turned towards his face and claimed his lips with hers.
Aragorn smiled as he walked more into view of them and cleared his throat. They both pulled away slightly embarrassed to be caught kissing as Aragorn entered the room he picked up his goblet and started to walk down the stairs.
“Don’t stop kissing on my part, kids.” he said, with a smirk on his face as he vanished down the stairs to where the books were located at. He was going to do some reading.
