Chapter 5: I shall not disappoint
Today something was to happen, Legolas didn’t know what exactly, but he felt the anticipation of it regardless. Elladan said all of this would come to an end and though Legolas was in part unwilling to believe it, he dared to hold on to that glimmer of hope that perhaps the Half-Elf was right.
Maybe it could be done. Somehow.
Legolas just didn’t see a way and that made him doubt the possibility.
He wore a plain brown set of leggings and a green tunic that day, covered with a green cloak. A commoner’s attire.
As he slipped down to the Throne room where Maglor told him he was expected Legolas felt the sense of anticipation growing.
Something was happening.
All eyes turned rested upon him as he stepped inside, but no word was spoken until he knelt before his King, head lowered as a commoner might in seeking the King’s audience.
Thranduil appeared pleased by his son’s behaviour, but Elladan watched it with contempt. For a son to be forced into such an act… His blood boiled.
It was Thranduil who spoke first, “It would seem your appearance has been pleasing to our guests as it is Lord Celeborn’s wish to pay the expenses for you and see you away from this realm and into his own for whatever purpose that might be.”
It wasn’t the news Legolas had hoped for; a life of slavery ended for another to begin. His head lowered further as he fought against anger but appeared to simply accept his fate.
Thranduil continued on, “They leave in two hours, I suggest you gather what things you might want to take and prepare to leave.”
Legolas bowed his head as he stood, “Yes, my liege”
With those words he turned and left, moving up to his room with Maglor following behind, “Yes, my liege? How dare you, you insolent slave!? You are mine. You make no choices for yourself, you answer to me.”
Legolas flinched at the anger he heard in the man’s voice, “Please m-master, I didn’t know how to respond in such a way it would not anger the king. It is not my desire to leave with the Lord Celeborn.”
Maglor seemed appeased by the answer, “I shall speak to the King and see about accompanying you. I shan’t have you taken from me quite so easily my sweet little slave”
Legolas bowed his head in resignation as the guard turned and left to do as he said, leaving the prince behind who muttered a soft, “This will not end. Not by merely changing the scenery”
The prince of Mirkwood gathered his things, but dared not take his royal costume, nor his circlet. A shiver ran through him as he thought of what might be demanded of him by the Lord Celeborn.
Elladan had said today would be the end of it, but truly it was just the start of a whole new life of torture and submission, worsened by the fact that Lord Celeborn had paid for him, turning him into the true definition of a whore.
Legolas looked at his bow and arrows, set in the back of his closet.
They were the most precious of things he’d ever received, but he dared not take them now. What need would a slave have for such things? He’d rather leave them than see them destroyed.
Packing what little items he possessed worth keeping, he returned to the courtyard where the others awaited him.
Legolas dared not look at his father even as he fought tears and the urge to beg the King not to send him away, it would do him no good.
Thranduil looked at him then, “Maglor has asked to accompany you on your journey, but as it is I need his expertise here and will not send him along to protect a common whore. You belong to the Lord Celeborn now, your protection or lack thereof is his responsibility from now on. Do not disappoint him, for you are running out of places where they would have you and not think you a disgrace for it.”
Legolas’ heart shattered just a bit more at the King’s words spoken just to add insult to injury, but Legolas could only bow his head, “I shall not disappoint, my liege”
As the Lothlorien party, accompanied by the twins, mounted their horses it posed the first problem; they lacked an extra horse. Legolas remained hopeful, though he doubted it he hoped his father would ‘give’ him his own horse to take along, a horse he’d seen not nearly often enough with all that was demanded of him, but no extra horse came.
Hope turned to despair; they wouldn’t make him walk to Lothlorien, would they?
It wasn’t the largest travel in the world, but the thought was daunting on its own.
It wasn’t until Elladan rode his horse up to him and extended his hand with a softly spoken, “Ride with me” that the fear eased. Just a little.
Taking the outreached hand Legolas was lifted unto the horse in front of Elladan and the party took off.
Legolas, though pretending not to notice, couldn’t help but pick up on the looks Elladan’s twin threw at his brother and himself. Anger, disgust, disdain, confusion.
He lowered his head in an attempt to ignore it when Orophin drew his horse up next to them and spoke softly, “You couldn’t resist his beauty either, could you? I don’t blame you, an Elf like that… his looks are unique, that golden hair… I bet he’s a beauty trapped underneath your body… Is he a screamer? Would you share him, or keep him for you alone?”
Legolas couldn’t help his cheeks turning red at the implication, but Elladan only aimed a bored glance at the Galadhrim, “Your very notions offend me.”
Legolas didn’t miss the disgust audible even in the Elf’s voice, even though they had the desired effect as Orophin left them.
Elladan spoke more, saying something, but Legolas didn’t hear. Your very notions offend me. Who would want to lay with a whore like you? He’s too honourable to be with a slut like you. He’ll leave you with his grandfather, not to be bothered with you again but thinking he did you a favour by changing your scenery.
His internal dialogue continued on and on as hours went by and they approached the borders of Lothlorien, it was only then that Legolas snapped out of it to watch the beauty of its woods.
Being a woodelf, the urge to jump off the horse and run through the nature surrounding him was overwhelming… but he kept his composure.
I will not disappoint.
That would be a bad start, wouldn’t it? So he stayed put until Elladan stopped the horse and they dismounted altogether.
Legolas looked around, feeling lost more than ever and terribly alone with no idea of what he should expect.
Lord Celeborn looked at the frail Elf before him, “My grandson tells me you are Legolas, son of Thranduil, is this correct?”
Legolas glanced at Elladan for a moment, before looking to Lord Celeborn and muttering a soft, “Yes m’lord”
The Lothlorien Lord gave a nod, “Please, follow me for there is much to discuss”
A hint of fear was obvious in Legolas’ eyes, but he dared not refuse the request. Best to be assured of making a good impression and so, wordlessly, he followed after the Lord until they reached the Talan overlooking the heart of Elvendome on Earth.
Lord Celeborn sat down in his chair, “Take a seat, Legolas Thranduilion”
A brow rose as Legolas knelt down on the floor, eyes aimed at the floor, “Would you not care for a chair, young one?”
Almost hesitantly he looked up, “I may use a chair?”
The innocent question told Lord Celeborn all he needed to know; the youth had been raised without knowing the simple pleasures in life, “You may”
Still the Lord Celeborn worried about the youth’s tainted past, “I would have you know that it is upon my Grandson’s request that you are here. He has made it a mission to see you returned to proper status… alas he is young and I worry that his enthusiasm is only short-lived. Tell me, prince of Mirkwood, what is true of the stories spoken about you? Do you oft lay with men who are not in any way your spouse?”
The question was direct, to the point and yet Legolas was hesitant to answer it, “I … I have, m’lord”
It was the truth, nothing more than that.
Lord Celeborn nodded, “How many partners were there?”
Legolas bit his lip, feeling his cheeks turning red anew, “In the beginning, there were five...Then, but one, for many, many years”
Another brow rose, “So he was a partner to you then?”
Legolas shook his head, but seemed hesitant to continue the conversation. Still, he didn’t want to disappoint, “H-he called me his slave, m’lord.”
Not satisfied with the answer, Lord Celeborn pressed on, “Was this a consensual affair?”
The question came as a shock even though Legolas had expected it. He knew the stories about him; a slut who’d offer himself up to anyone who came to his door. No one had ever asked his story. No one wanted to know the truth of it.
He hesitated in answering; perhaps the answer would disappoint the Lord… but the prince of Mirkwood may be many things but he was no liar. Whether the Lord chose to believe him or not, Legolas offered a shake of the head as tears filled his eyes and he whispered softly, “None of them were.”
