The old ways 68
"Maybe we should have a look then." Gimli looked at the elf.
Legolas eyes darted nervously around the deck, checking if anybody was near.
"Do not w. No. Nobody will see us here. Wait I will drag some of the rope coils and push some barrels in our direction and tell the others not come near because you are trying to get some rest. I will tell them, that elves can get very unfriendly when not left in peace. Aragorn will understand and confirm my tale." With that the dwarf got up from the ground and moveer ter to the ropes and barrels, that were lined up throughout the ship. With his usual muttering sounds and curses he brought them into a new order, making a defence wall around Legolas’ bedding area. After that he left and headed towards where Aragorn had gathered his men giving them orders for the following days.
The dwarf returned to the elf’s side in a matter of minutes and gestured towards the ‘wall’.
"How do you like it?" he grinned.
"It'll give some peace and quiet, thank you." Legolas had already moved back into a laying position and folded his arms behind his head.
"May I?" Gimli asked a little shyly.
Legolas nodded his consent and removed his hands from nd hnd his head and started unfastening his tunic. He gave relieved sigh as it was loose and pulled up the silver shirt, he was wearing underneath.
Gimli cursed silently at the elvish leggings and the delicate knots of the fastening, but declined Legolas silent offer to help him.
Underneath the dark green of the leggings, he found the shining silver elven runes on the dark brown of the leather armour, hiding the tender and swollen flesh of Legolas' lower body.
Gimli quickly undid the leather bindings and lifted the armour off. "It was a bit tight, wasn't it?" the dwarf threw a quick glance at Legolas. But the elf had his eyes closed and breathed more deeply than before. Obviously it indeed had been a bit tight.
"Why didn’t you say anything, you crazy elf?" Gimli raged.
"We didn’t have the time and I didn’t want to bother you nor Aragorn." Legolas admitted quietly.
"Mhmpf..." was the only answer the elf got.
Suddenly he felt the warm and callused but tender hand of the dwarf on his body and opened his eyes. He didn’t lift his head though, not sure he wanted to know the size his body might have taken by now.
"This is so beautiful. So tender and strong at the same time. A true miracle. Just look at it." He heard his dwarven friend say.
"I'm not sure I want to see it." Legolas closed his eyes again and only concentrated on Gimli’s hand on him.
"Then at least feel it." Gimli took Legolas’ hand without asking and directed it onto the mount of flesh.
Legolas sucked in his breath as he felt how large he had grown and wondered about it. He still couldn't feel the child move, but Aragorn had told him that this was normal and he possibly wouldn’t until the nineteenth or twentieth week. While his hand was absently stroking the bulge producing from his lower body, he tried to calculate his pregnancy. When did he begin to feel odd? Actually, right in the beginning of their stay in Lothlorien. If that meant he already become pregnant the first time with Haldir, that would put him in the sixteenth or seventeenth week.
Legolas didn’t feel Gimli pulling another blanket over him and checking if he was laying comfortable, taking a sitting position, leaning against one of the barrels to watch over him, for he had drifted into the elven dreamscape without noticing it.
The next day Theoden continuously sent out riders to check what lay before them. The sky had already darkened, when they first returned with dread and sorrow in their eyes.
Merry, who sat behind Dernhelm looked around in confusion when he noticed the young warrior slowly advancing the head of the troop, taking a position near the King. Haldir stayed with them and nodded reassuringly at the Hobbit.
When they had reached Theoden and his men, they could overhear the conversation and their fears wernfirnfirmed. A large army was running down the city's walls and destroying the surrounding fields.
