Chapter 11. Bring down the sky

They brought Legolas back to the White City. Elrohir had been dismissed by the healers, and sought Estel just to have someone to stay with. For four days he had been sitting in a chair in the royal chambers in silence, looking out the window on the battlefield.

Estel had been sitting in silence too, just watching his brother cry his silent tears. �Elrohir?� he whispered and moved over to rest his hand on the half-Elf�s shoulder. �Shall I send word for Ada?�

Elrohir shook his head. �He is already on his way, I am sure of it; he and Arwen.� The young Elf managed a smile for his foster brother. �I have been told he has left Rivendell, never to return there�riding to you, together with the rest of the household.�

�I know,� Estel whispered and began to massage Elrohir�s shoulders.

�He is leaving, Estel, he is leaving for the Undying Lands, and the time had come for me to make my choice.� Elrohir whispered.

The man smiled. �You are right, but now we should think of Legolas.�

Elrohir looked away and started to cry harder. �Please, please don�t take him from me too,� he whispered to the view.

Estel squatted down and rested one arm on Elrohir�s leg. �It must be hard to face the possibility of losing a lover. I cannot even imagine it.�

�Oh Estel, if he dies, I will perish too. I cannot go through this once more,� Elrohir whispered, and frowned as he noticed his own slip-up.

�Once more?� Estel said softly.

Elrohir hung his head and nodded. �Both Mother and Elladan.�

Estel nodded in understanding. �Life has been hardyou;you; I will pray that you will not have to grieve Legolas too.�

�Can I go and visit him?� Elrohir asked and looked at his brother. It burned on the tip of his tongue to confide stelstel; he wanted to tell him the truth, wanted to tell him that Elladan was not just his twin, but that he had also been his lover. But to face the consequences of his crime and to endure both his father�s wrath and Estel�s disappointment would be enough to make him sail for the West.

The man nodded. �Yes, let us visit the prince.�

They had both ventured to the healing house; Elrohir had stopped Estel from entering with a hand placed on the Man�s chest. �I have to do this alone, Estel,� Elrohir said softly and swept in through the door, leaving his foster brother in the hall.

He walked slowly into the room, swallowing as he felt his mouth go dry at seeing Legolas lying there on the cot, pale and still with blood in his hair. He walked over next to the cot, and if he had not known better he would have thought that his lover was dead. And the memory of Elladan�s mangled body flashed before his eyes. For some reason Elladan�s face had been spared, which had made it harder to understand that he was dead. He looked like he was sleeping, had it not been for the gaps in his body. Elrohir shook his head; Legolas was not Elladan, and Legolas was not dead!

�My love?� he whispered and sat down on the corner of the primitive bed. Legolas didn�t react; Elrohir bit his lip and felt his tears begin to fall oncee. e.

�E-Elrohir,� a whisper escaped Legolas�s dry lips.

�I am here,� Elrohir said softly and kissed the blond�s brow gently.

Legolas slowly opened his eyes and blinked, dazed. �Elrohir,� he murmured once more and smiled vaguely.

Elrohir smiled back. �You look better,� he said.

�Liar,� Legolas chuckled before going off in a dry cough.

As soon as the coughing was over, Elrohir kissed the lips of his lover and whispered, �When you get up from this bed, you and I should travel Middle-earth. I greatly desire to see the places you went on your adventure with Estel.�

�It would be my pleasure, my love.� Legolas replied.

�My father is on his way, and he would have you up from this bed quickly,� Elrohir said and managed a smile.

Legolas paled more than he already was. �He left Rivendell?�

Elrohir nodded, and Legolas could feel his tears form, blurring his sight. �Will you go with him?�

�To Valinor?� Elrohir asked and wiped away a tear. He would have to tell Legolas this, and tell him now. There was no use in delaying this, the choice had not been hard for him to make at all. When Legolas did not say something Elrohir continued, �Yes my love, I will go with him. I will travel to Valinor.�

�To be reunited with Celebrian and Elladan,� Legolas whispered and looked at Elrohir with large frightened eyes.

�Yes,� Elrohir whispered. �Come with me, Legolas,� he said in a strained voice, �Please come with me.�

�No, Elrohir�� Legolas began to tears began to fall harder. �I cannot, I made a promise to Aragorn.�

�I can make him change his mind,� Elrohir said and took Legolas�s hand.

Legolas closed his eyes. �Don�t, my beloved Elrohir.�

�But Legolas�� Elrohir said with a desperate tone sneaking into his voice.

The blond opened his eyes again and looked at Elrohir. The look he gave pierced his soul, and Elrohir heard a strained sob rise from his throat. �This is where our paths are divided, my love.�

�No, don�t say so,� Elrohir whispered and shook his head.

Legolas hushed him with raising a hand, and Elrohir said nothing more. He simply sat there on Legolas�s bed crying like a child; there was nothing more to be said. It would change nothing.

A year passed. Estel was now King of Gondor, and ruled together with his wife Arwen Evenstar. Elrohir had talked with Elrond and had made his choice clear; he wanted to be counted amongst the Firstborn. But he had begged and pleaded with Elrond to stay behind for some time, for he had promised Legolas to revisit some of the places where the Fellowship had ventured.

Elrond had not wished to stay longer, but had arranged for Elrohir to sail with Haldir�s brothers soon at a given time. Elrohir had agreed to that deal: to follow his father no longer than a year after.

And so they had travelled Middle-earth being carefree and joyful. These were wonderful times of peace, but Elrohir became increasingly depressed and moody, and when Legolas had pressured him he had admitted that the sea longing had been growing inside of him. Legolas had nodded in defeat and travelled with Elrohir to meet with Rumil and Orophin, and then away to the Grey Havens.

It was a misty evening when they arrived, and for reasons unknown the ferryman was waiting. He greeted them with a half-smile. �Elrohir, Rumil, and Orophin. I have been expecting you.�

The four Elves bowed lightly to the sombre elf on the boat. �But you�� the ferryman said, pointing at Legolas, ��I did not know you were to come.�

�I am not,� Legolas said with a small voice. �I am just here to see the others on their way.�

A strange silence took them and Legolas broke it when hugging Rumil. �Send my greetings to Haldir.�

�I will,� Rumil answered and left his space in Legolas�s arms to his brother, and Orophin hugged the Sinda too before the brothers went to boat and sat down.

Legolas and Elrohir stood and looked at each other. �I will miss you,� Elrohir whispered, �Please come with me.�

�No Elrohir, you know I cannot,� Legolas answered and wrapped his arms around Elrohir�s waist. �I will miss you more,� he murmured huskily.

This made Elrohir smile, remembering last night. �Tell Estel, Arwen and baby Eldarion I love them,� he said when the smirk had disappeared from his face.

�I promise,� Legolas said and looked away as the ferryman coughed, indicating that they should hurry up.

�I love you,� Elrohir whispered and kissed Legolas�s lips gently.

�This is not the hour for untruths, Elrohir,� Legolas replied softly and kissed Elrohir back, tasting his own salty tears.

�I do not lie, I do love you,� the half-Elf said quietly.

�Your heart belongs to Elladan, I have always known that. I just did not know it would hurt this much to give you back to him,� Legolas whispered and bit his lip so as to not to voice his tears.

�My heart is mine,� Elrohir said sternly before resting his forehead against Legolas. �And Elladan�s, and yours.�

Legolas shook his head. �Farewell, my love.�

�Why will you not believe I love you?� Elrohir whispered, �Please do not let me leave with a heavy heart.�

�Then stay,� Legolas said and a sob shook his frame. �Stay here, do not make the journey to the shores.� He knew he was being unfair and irrational, but this had been on his mind for the entire year. These words had burned his tongue and darkened his mind.

�Legolas, please,� Elrohir said in a pained tone. �Kiss me and tell me you will follow shortly.�

Legolas lifted his head, understanding what it was Elrohir was doing. He was trying to leave with the promise of reuniting, but while Legolas deep down in his soul did not believe it to be so, he kissed his lover gently. �I will follow soon,� he whispered. �Now kiss me and tell me you will be waiting on the shore when I arrive with open arms to...� the Sinda trailed off.

Elrohir smiled. � I promise as soon as I hear of your arrival I will run to the shore as fast as if Gothmog himself in my shadow, to embrace you and kiss you and tell you I love you.�

Legolas began to sob harder; he wanted to belithisthis, oh how he wanted to believe. He reluctantly let go of Elrohir and straightened up, giving a brave though tearful smile.

Elrohir kissed Legolas�s forehead and he he too stepped into the boat. The ferryman pushed the boat from the shore, and the three elves in the boat waved to Legolas who stood on the boat bridge, alone in the dim lights. �He is all yours again, Elladan. Take care of him,� Legolas whispered to the sea before turning around and walking away from the shore.

I am aware that this fic changed style in the middle, I stopped writing it, cuz I had to be in a certain mood to write this, and when I picked it up again, my writing style had changed. So the start of this fic is alot different from the end. I just wanted to let you know- thanks to Milly for not letting me give up this fic :
