Chapter Eight
Glorfindel sat on the floor next to his bed, daydreaming and wondering of what might become of him. He had grown accustomed of doing these with each passing day, as they had become his regular activities while being in imprisonment.
Long chains wrapped both of the seneschal' wrists. The end of each chain was hooked to a single iron ring plastered on the wall at each side of the bed. Although they were long enough to allow him to move around the bed, still the tools have been the main source of his biggest irritation. No one but Alderios has the key, and since it was made of mithrill, Glorfindel could just forget the idea of an escape.
The blond sighed wearily and looked around. He wased, ed, very bored. He wished, for a tenth time that was, there was a window in the room, so then he would be able to poise his eyes with the sight of the nature outside, or maybe just to feel the sunlight or the breeze of the wind. To tell the truth, Glorfindel had started to feel a bit claustrophobic of being trapped too long inside the small and poorly furnished room.
Nonetheless, he considered himself quite lucky so far. Since he had been moved here, none of the two elder princes of Mirkwood ever touched him again. They didn’t torture or ask him any more questions, and they hardly ever visited him. He lef left all alone, not even with a guard to watch over him, except for a servant who brought food and water for him once a day.
Surely it relieved him. It took a great deal of willpower to recover from the two princes' first and only attack. Elves could die from rape, and the reason why Glorfindel was not grieving because he had pledged to avethe the two brothers. Glorfindel almost could not wait for the time when he could strike his sword on their chests and then watched them die upon his feet. This, he thought, would be the suitable revenge for whatever it was they had done to him, and maybe, for what they did to Legolas.
Legolas.
The name came to his head, and Glorfindel' lips curled into a smile.
During the past weeks, Legolas came almost every day to check on him. Whenever his siblings were away, he would come merely for having a chat, and sometimes even brought him some food or new clothes. He was never stayed too long for fear of getting caught, but his brief visits always brought joy to Glorfindel' heart. The seneschal was touched deeply by the sincerity showed from the younger elf and it was during these visits, when Glorfindel became aware that Legolas had brought a particular strange effect on him.
As days went by, Glorfindel found himself getting excessively fond he yhe young Sinda and longed to see him. To look into that beautiful and kind face and to hear his melodious voice and laughter could made Glorfindel' desperation grew lesser. It was strange for him, to feel such affection toward someone whom he only got to know in such a short period of time. Moreover when that someone was considered his enemy, although Glorfindel deeply realized that Legolas has never treated him like such. Legolas, from his point of view, was the kindest of all beings, the purest of soul and undoubtedly most beautiful, and it was just not possible not to fall in love with such a being.
There was only one thing that disturbed Glorfindel. How was it that Legolas had been sentenced to be his brother' consort? There must have been some kind of mistakes he had done in his past life, and whatever it was it must be savage, for him to suffer such a severe punishment in the hands of his own blood kin. But although he felt he could die of curiosity, Glorfindel was careful not to ask any question about the matter, of fear that he might put further embarrassment to the young elf, or worse, would drive him away.
He himself would swallow down all anger whenever he saw Legolas come in looking exhausted, sometimes even with bite marks and bruises upon his fair skin. Having gone through with it himself, Glorfindel knew how dreadful it was to be an object of passion of both Legolas' brothers. It was one frightening experience he didn't want to face ever again, and yet, Legolas has to deal with it every single day. Words could not describe how Glorfindel pitied him for this. If there was just something he could do to help….
The sound of the opened door broke the Noldo' reverie, and he lifted his face. He let out a smile as he saw the young beauty walked in, smiling back at him.
"I have thought you would not come," Glorfindel greeted him.
"My brothers were at the borders," Legolas shortly replied and dropped to the ground next to the blond lord, "Surely I could not miss the chance."
Glorfindel stared at him, immediately got absorbed in that ephemeral face, but then got disturbed slightly upon seeing the distraught look on it.
"I have to tell you thi things," Legolas said, suddenly looked serious, "Things that I have overheard from my brothers."
Glorfindel nodded. Legolas then recalled quickly the conversation he had heard the night before to Glorfindel, who listened with full attention.
"Do you think that we will get into war?" Legolas asked once he was finished.
"That is possible," Glorfindel answered and stretched his legs, "Although I am sure that Elrond will do everything in his power to prevent it from happening. I think he will try something else to gain my release, that is if your father ever had any intention to free me."
"You shall be freed," Legolas said sternly, "Youl bel be released and leave this place, and go back to your realm."
He paused, and when he spoke again, he could not contain bitterness in his voice.
"Although I preferred to have you around, I will be overwhelmed by the idea of you’re leaving so that no one could do you more harm."
Glorfindel almost shocked to see a gleaming tears on the youngster' eyes. He reached out to hold the pale hand.
"What ails you, pen-neth?" he asked gently. He felt he did not need to ask the next question, as he already knew the answer, but went all the way, "Did your brothers hurt you again?"
"They can not hurt me more than they already did," Legolas replied sadly, bowing down his head in shame, "I only hope I could lose all the ability to feel so that I would feel no more pain both in my body and heart."
Glorfindel felt lost in word. He wanted so fervently to help this elf, but in order to do so, he has to know what exactly had happened. The seneschal cleared his throat, then asked again, very, very carefully,
"What had happened, Legolas, until your brothers took you as their consort? What kind of false had put you into this?"
He looked at the startled blue eyes, watched as the youngster suddenly turned to be very nervous.
"You can tell me, mellon-nin," Glorfindel smiled reassuringly, "I will not judge. I promise."
"Are you certain?" Legolas asked back, somehow didn't seem convince.
Glorfindel nodded, still smiling. Legolas forced himself to relax and leaned his back to the side of the bed, trying to find a more comfortable position. And after some seconds of hesitation, he began his tale.
"I used to live my life as a warrior and a respected prince, just like my brothers," he spoke, his eyes fixed on the wall in front of him, as if to bring up some old pain memories, "I was considered one of the best archers in Mirkwood and had many friends. Although at that time, my relationship with my father and two brothers was already strained. My mother died whee gae gave birth to me and for that, they detested me. Nothing I did ever impressed them, but at least I was grateful that none of them ever laid a hand on me, that was until the incident a few years ago. When I was just reached my five hundred years of age, Ada forced me to marry a young princess maiden from another kingdom, so that Mirkwood could have a strong alliance with them. None of us knew this princess and among us three, I was the expendable one, so the marriage was arranged without my consent. I tried everything within my power to refuse Ada, but he never listened to my pleads. My world seemed to tear apart and I was so angry, so then I decided to do the first thing that came into my mind. I ran away, from the marriage and from my father' kingdom."
Legolas paused, waiting for his companion to say anything. As no word came, he strengthened himself to continue his story.
"That was my undoing. The most awful mistake I had ever done in my life. The princess' father, the king, was so mad. He felt so humiliated and betrayed, and instantly declared war to Mirkwood. In that time of desperation, Alderios took my place to marry her and thus the war was prevented. All the while, Felenduir and his soldiers came after me and finally managed to bring me back here. But it was too late, as when I arrived, thrriarriage already took place. And so was the beginning of my ill fate. Alderios hated me valiantly for having to be responsible upon my careless act. He wanted to punish me with his own hands, therefore he requested to my father to take me as his consort. My father agreed with him, having told me that I was lucky to be kept alive and not to be executed as a traitor. I begged for their forgiveness thousands times, but it was all for nothing."
The young elf took a deep shuddering breath as tears started to roll down his cheeks.
"Alderios' wife never cared about it all," he said in an almost inaudible voice, "Once she told me that she only agreed with the marriage for the same reason as Alderios', to avoid the war. She told that she has a lover of her own and that she and my brother hardly ever share a bed. Hence Alderios could have his way freely toward me. And not only that, he even let Felenduir played with me."
Until here, Legolas could almost go no further. He closed his eyes and shook his head.
"Since then I was doomed to live this life," he said again, his voice was shaking with sadness, "I could not fight it, not when everyone in Mirkwood despised me for having brought such a shame to this land, and I could not fall to grief as this feeling of guilty still remained deep inside me. But I knew then as I know now, that I will never have my life back. Ai, how much I want to die."
He began to cry silently, until he felt a warm hand touching his cheeks and wiping his tears. He opened his eyes and blinked away the tears, to look upon the ageless face before him.
"I praised Elbereth for having you alive," Glorfindel said softly, feeling every bit of the other' misery, "I could not live any longer if you are dead."
He saw the quizzical expression upon the youngster' face and right at that moment the ancient elf had reached a decision. He took hold of the pale hand once more.
"When I am released," Glorfindel stated, "You will come with me and will stay in Mirkwood no longer. I will take you so then you will live with me in Rivendell."
At hearing this, Legolas jaws dropped open and his eyes widened in surprise.
"Coming with you?" he asked stupefied, "But why…?" "Because it pained me terribly to see you live like this," the other blond replied and with all the calmness he could muster, continued, "And because, I think I am in love with you, pen-neth."
Legolas froze in utter disbelief. He knew he has to say something, anything, but his tongue seemed stuck in place. Didn't give Legolas any time to even draw any breath, Glorfindel tightened his hold on the youngster' pale hand and stared hard at the sapphire blue eyes. When he spoke again, his voice was clear and stern,
"By the name of faith, and everything I hold dear to my heart, this I swear to you, Legolas. I promise that I will free you, with my own will and my own hands. Even if it took the whole of my immortal life to do so, then so be it."
If Legolas was stunned before, now he was awestruck beyond breath. Upon hearing the vow said by Glorfindel, his heartbeat quickened so fast until he was afraid that it was going to explode. All emotion were blended frantically inside him, making him wanted to cry and laugh at the same time. This was definitely too much for him, and for a very brief moment, Legolas felt like he was on the verge of fainting.
When he saw the young Sinda started to sway slightly, Glorfindel was quick to react. He slid closer and wrapped both arms around the quivering body. Legolas accepted the embrace without any resistance and leaned his forehead on Glorfindel' chest, while tears once again brimming in his eyes.
Glorfindel inhaled deeply the fragrant scent radiated from the other elf and slowly put up a hand to caress Legolas' golden mane.
"Have you any trust in me, pen-neth?" Glorfindel' voice was barely above a whisper, "Will you come with me then?"
It seemed like eternity before Legolas lifted his face and looked him in the eyes. The youngster' wet eyes no longer filled with sorrow and confusion and his face seemed glowing in a sparkling delight, and when he nodded and smiled, those were all the answers Glorfindel needed.
They kept starring at each other for a long silence moment, enjoying each other' nearness. That was until their faces started to move closer and closer so that they were merely an inch from each other.
Then Glorfindel, ever so careful, brushed his lips over the pink ones in front of him, and when Legolas didn't make any sign of discomfort, he captured the young elf' lips in a feathery kiss.
They stayed still for a while, until Legolas made the first move. Never once breaking the kiss, he slowly moved to straddle himself on Glorfindel' lap and laid each leg on each side of the taller elf. He curled his hands around Glorfindel' strong neck, twirling his fingers in the Noldo' silky long hair.
Encouraged by Legolas' movement, Glorfindel, also have his eyes closed, circled the youngster' slim waist with both arms and pulled him closer, pressing their bodies together. As their kisses went deeper, Glorfindel pushed his tongue further, slipping in between Legolas' soft pillow of flesh and tenderly swept it inside the Sinda' warm mouth. He concentrated fully on kissing the young elf, as he for the first time, savored the sweet honeyed taste of Legolas. His hands moved unconsciously up and down, giving Legolas a comforting stroke on his back.
Legolas shuddered, and instinctively tightened his hands around the other' neck. His action caused their bodies to press even closer and when their hardening shafts made contact from behind their tight leggings, both elves shook lightly as warm heat of passion rushed through their bodies.
However, the two elves' sacred intimacy broke ever so abruptly by the sound of an opened door, which was followed by an amused voice,
"By all the mighty Gods, whatever you two are doing?"
