Chapter 7
Two days later back in Rivendell
Arthon was sitting at his favorite place by the river. He was reading a book that Elrond had given him when he heard footsteps behind him. He turned to see his brother walking towards him, "What do you want?"
"I want to have a little competition with you."
"What kind of competition?"
"Just a little fighting match to see who is better. I just want to see how much you learned from Haldir. Meet me up above the city on the other side of the river."
"OK fine, I will be there in one hour."
Anteru smiled and went to get things ready so that his plan would work. Arthon looked up above the city. There was a mountain and up at the top was a rope bridge that went across the river. It was almost directly above a large waterfall. Arthon wondered why Anteru wanted to meet him up there, ‘Probably so that adar doesn’t see,’ he thought to himself. He got up and went to get his fighting swords that had been a gift from Haldir.
On top of the mountain, Anteru went about setting up his plan. He cut the ropes to the bridge so that they were barely holding the bridge up. Then he walked along the river a ways to another bridge and used that one to cross the river. He made his way back to the first bridge and waited for his brother to come. He knew that the ropes wouldn’t be able to hold his brother’s weight causing Arthon to fall. Anteru smiled wickedly to himself this would definantly get rid of the brat.
1 hour later Arthon made his way up to the top of the mountain. It never crossed his mind once that his brother might actually try something to try and get rid of him. As he walked up to the bridge he could see Anteru on the other side waiting for him. He was half way across the bridge when he heard something snap and the bridge shudder under his weight. He looked back at the beginning of the bridge and saw that one of the ropes holding the bottom of the bridge to the land had snapped. ‘Oh shit,’ he thought, ‘If the other rope snaps I will fall.’ Arthon looked across at his brother. Anteru was just standing there with a wicked smile on his face, "Anteru help me. One of the ropes on the bridge has snapped if the other one breaks I will fall."
Anteru didn’t say anything he just walked away until he was out of sight of Arthon. He was still smiling, "Enjoy the fall brat."
"Wait Anteru!" Arthon yelled, then suddenly he felt the bridge shudder again and then he heard the inevitable sound of the other rope snapping. ‘Shit,’ he thought as he fell into the river. It wouldn’t have been bad except for the waterfall. At the bottom of the waterfall it was pretty shallow and rocky. When he hit the bottom the first thing that he felt was the intense pain from his shoulder dislocating as he hit the rocks. Then he hit head on something hard and wooden. The last thought he had before he blacked out was, ‘I never got to make love to Elrond,’ then everything went black as his body continued to travel down the river until it was washed up on to a sandy area below the city.
Aragorn and Haldir were riding toward the city. Haldir stopped suddenly when he saw something gleaming in the sunlight. He quickly got off of his horse and went to pick up the object. It was a fighting sword. He immediately recognized it as one of the ones that he had given to Arthon, "Hey this is one of the fighting swords that I gave to Arthon."
"What?"
"I gave him the swords as a gift but what is it doing way down here?"
"Good question."
Aragorn looked around, it was then that he saw something out of the corner of his eye. It was a body. He quickly jumped off of his horse and ran over to the body. He turned the body over and was shocked to see that it was Arthon, "Haldir come here now."
Haldir went to him and he was also shocked to see Arthon lying there unconscious. He kneeled down next to Aragorn and felt for any sign of life. Finally he found a pulse but it was very faint, "He is alive but barely we need to get him to your father now."
Aragorn nodded, he picked Arthon up and they walked back to the horses. Once Haldir was on his horse, Aragorn gently handed his brother up to him. Then he got onto his horse and they rode into the city. Getting off of his horse, "Take him into one of the healing rooms. I will go get adar nin."
Haldir handed Arthon to Aragorn so that he could get off of his horse, then he took the boy back and headed for the healing rooms. Aragorn quickly walked up to his father’s private chambers. He found Elrond sitting at his desk reading something, "Adar you are needed now."
Looking up at him, "What is wrong?"
"Haldir and I found Arthon below the city by the river. He is badly injured and barely alive."
Elrond got up so suddenly the chair that he had been sitting in fell over and hit the floor with a dull thud. Turning toward Aragorn who could see the panic in his father’s eyes, "Take me to him now."
Aragorn nodded and led him to one of the healing rooms. They entered the room and Elrond walked up to the bed, "How bad are his injuries?"
"He has a nasty head injury, a dislocated shoulder, probably some broken ribs, and a broken leg, but that was all that I could tell." Haldir replied.
Elrond turned toward Aragorn, "Ion I will need your help in putting his shoulder back into place."
Aragorn walked up next to his father. Elrond had Haldir hold Arthon in a sitting position. Aragorn grabbed the injured arm and held it straight out from Arthon’s body. Elrond was extremely glad that Arthon was unconscious and wouldn’t feel this. He laid the palm of his hand against the bulge on the front of Arthon’s shoulder and began to apply pressure to it. He ended up having to use a great deal of pressure to get the shoulder to pop back in place but finally it did. Haldir laid Arthon back down on the bed.
Elrond stood up, "Leave me alone with him."
Aragorn and Haldir silently left the room. Elrond sat down on the edge of the bed, "Please let him live." He began to say something in elvish. His hands began to take on a blue glow as he started at Arthon’s head and worked his way down his body healing each of his wounds. Once he was down he sat down in the chair by the bed and waited for Arthon to wake up.
