Chapter Eight.

Aragorn just glared at her as they walked into a huge room where to one side was lighted by daylight. Gimli rushed off from the group as Gandalf yelled for him to remain with the group. Solaris rushed behind him as the others followed them into the room but it was not just a room but a crypt – there was a tomb where Gimli was kneeling before it. Solaris had just finished reading the runes when she looked up at the others as they entered the room.

Gandalf read the slab runes and spoke, “Here lies Balin, son of Fundin, Lord of Moria.”

“I feared it was so when we saw the bodies earlier,” said Frodo, sadly.

Gandalf was flipping through a book trying to figure out what had happened there. Merry and Pippin just stood by Frodo looking a bit scared. Aragorn and Boromir started to close the door and block it with whatever item they could find in the room when everyone started to hear the faint beats of a drum.

Boom!

Boom!

Boom!

The sounds began to get louder and louder. The four hobbits started to back away from the crypt to the far wall as they looked very scared as they held their swords in ready for whatever was going to come out of the mines.

“Gandalf! We have to get out of here now! The Orcs are coming!” yelled Solaris, as she pulled out her bow and armed it with three arrows as she started to back away from the door that Aragorn and Boromir had just blocked with what they found within the room.

“What do you mean the Orcs are coming….?” yelled Aragorn, as he glared at Solaris and then noticed that she was no longer looking at the door but towards the Hobbits. He saw Frodo’s Sting glowing blue which spoke of only one thing - Orcs. “Get ready! They’re coming!”

The next thing that happened was a blur of battle which a huge cave troll tried it’s best to kill Frodo but was killed by the combined arrows of Legolas and Solaris. The others were in battle with about a dozen Orcs. They knew that they had to fly from that room soon as they all started to head to the east doors. Solaris and Aragorn were the last to leave the room. Solaris saw the door being bashed down as several Orcs appeared.

They rushed as far away from the tomb as possible only to get surrounded by spider Orcs, they were not advancing to kill them even though they outnumber them. It was like they were holding them there for something.

Gandalf was wondering why they were not attacking when he noticed a red fiery light coming from the far corridor and then he noticed that the Orcs were now fleeing the area. “No! They couldn’t have sent that foul creature here.”

“Gandalf, what is it?” asked Pippin.

“A Balrog! Swords are no longer needed here! We must flee this area now! Fly towards the Bridge of Khazad-Dum!” yelled Gandalf, as they all started to run towards the bridge knowing it would speed them on their way out of the mines.
