@MistressMayvenn: It's my explanation of why the Ring affected Boromir as much, but Aragorn seemed just fine; he redirected the darkness he felt growing within and unleashed it on Legolas instead.

Chapter 8: Hurt me, so I might find some peace

The chase after the Hobbits was tiresome. It wasn't until they discovered they'd survived but ran for the 'safety' of Fangorn forest that they allowed themselves a night of rest within the darkness of the forest.

The elf had climbed up into one of the towering trees and found comfort in nature's embrace the best he could. Legolas had been plagued with feelings of guilt. First Gandalf, then Boromir and who even knew if the Hobbits still lived?

In every instance he felt he ought to have done better, done more, to save them.

The ranger observed the elf. Things had changed so dramatically between them since that one night. He could tell by the way the elf constantly averted his gaze whenever their eyes would meet.

It saddened the heir to the throne of Gondor that their friendship had turned into what it had, but he knew that only he was to blame for that.

He had tarnished a friendship that once meant the world to him.

The realization became more and more evident to him as Frodo and the Ring travelled further away and he regained some sanity.
Please Estel

The words rang through his mind and gripped at his heart, a torturous hold he couldn't shake. He turned away from the elf, trying desperately to shake his guilt and wanting desperately to save what was left of that friendship.

He turned back only to stare into the light blue eyes of the elf.

Blue eyes that searched his questioningly, "Legolas..."

But the elf shook his head and moved away, silently asking the ranger to follow him out of the dwarf's sight, "Legolas I..."

Again the elf interrupted his attempts to apologize, "Are you going to hurt me again?"

Aragorn shook his head, "I am not. Please Legolas, I'm sorry for what happened...I can't turn back what happened, but please know that I..."

Legolas narrowed his eyes at the man, "Shut up."

The ranger kept silent, hoping to appease the elf, but wasn't quite prepared for the words that followed next, "Keep your apologies, we both know you were right. I am a slut. I deserved what you did to me. Aragorn, hurt me again."

The human shook his head at the elf, "I can't" but Legolas would have nothing of it, "You owe me this much. You have no right to deny me now. Hurt me. Hurt me so that my mind can find some peace and I can find a measure of forgiveness for the things I've caused."

Aragorn felt hurt for the elf and the harsh words Legolas aimed at himself.

His hand reached out to touch the elf, but Legolas pulled away. He didn't want the comfort of the man he once considered his closest friend.

He wanted to feel the pain, to suffer for the death he had caused.

Aragorn wouldn't deny him. Couldn't. Legolas was right; what right had he deny the elf something that before he'd so roughly taken?

Still Aragorn couldn't follow the path he'd had last.

Instead he pulled the elf toward him and kissed his lips. The kiss lacked the roughness it had possessed that one night, but focused on a sweetness that sang to the elf.

Legolas bit the man's lower lip sharply in a desperate attempt to draw out the man's anger but he had no success as Aragorn gently cupped the elf's face and proceeded the gentle kisses before his fingers trailed up to gently brush along the elf's sensitive ears.

The Mirkwood prince shivered in delight despite light mews of discontent as frustrated tears brimmed his eyes, "Aragorn, please"

Just as last time, Aragorn wouldn't be deterred from his purpose, "You are beautiful, Legolas"

It was a sharp contrast to their last union, but Aragorn didn't lie. His friend was beautiful and Aragorn would make the elf realize this; it was his fault the elf had any doubts now and he considered it his personal mission to restore the elf's confidence.

He stripped off his own shirt, something that last time he couldn't even bother with, before he removed Legolas' tunic.

His eyes filled with a clear sense of guilt as he saw the bruises on the elf's pale skin. Bruises left by him, "I'm so sorry, poikaer"

Legolas froze when Aragorn referred to him as 'pure one', a look of sadness in his eyes, "I'm no longer pure. Too much guilt ways upon my heart"

Aragorn didn't listen as he pressed feather light kisses along the nape of his neck, using any and every sensitive place on Legolas' body in an attempt to convince the elf of said purity, said beauty.

The elf still protested, "Estel..." The nickname was one the elf knew Aragorn could hardly resist and even now it momentarily paused the ranger, "Hush now, let me do this. Estelio enni."

Trust me. The words were so easily spoken but that trust had been dealt such a heavy blow that Legolas wasn't sure he could.

The man went on to press kisses all along his chest and before too long Legolas uttered a soft, "Estelio annen"

I trust you.

The next hour went by with Aragorn taking his sweet time in pleasing Legolas, completely forsaking his own pleasure until the elf beneath him begged for more, "Please Estel, stop teasing me"

Aragorn spent a great amount of time preparing the elf for what was to come but when he finally pushed into Legolas the ranger still gasped at how tight he was.

He waited until Legolas urged him on before he started thrusting into the more than willing elf who somewhere in the process had wrapped both arms and legs around the man, desperate for the warmth and affection the human was offering him until they both climaxed.

This time Legolas wasn't a bleeding mess left to cover up after himself, this time Aragorn tenderly used some cloth to erase any traces of their exchange and helped Legolas get dressed, "You are a mighty and brave warrior. You are a skilled and sharp-eyed archer. You are beautiful. But more than that, you are not to blame for the deaths of others. Boromir's death was unfortunate, but not something either of us could've helped. Boromir had wandered off so far... in no situation we would've made it. Thanks to you, your archery, we were able to find him while he was still alive, to give him the death he deserved. Feel no guilt about that, Legolas. You hold no fault"

The ranger was silent for a moment as he dressed himself, "If anyone's at fault, it is me. I never should've done what I did to you. I don't know what came over me"

Legolas offered a light smile as he embraced the man, "Whatever reason you might've had, it is forgiven. Thank you for showing me the light again, I shan't forget that Estel."

The ranger braided the elf's hair, restoring his calm appearance rather than making him look like he'd just been shagged, before they headed back to join Gimli who'd cooked a light stew in their absence.

Gimli looked at the pair as they returned -a knowing glint to his eyes before he spoke, "Well, I do certainly hope you two found what you were looking for out there"

Legolas offered a polite smile and a nod, "We did."

The air felt lighter and Legolas seemed to have regained that natural glow all elves possessed that made them seem as though they were divine creatures.

The next day they didn't find the hobbits. The next day they rediscovered an old friend they'd thought was lost to them; Gandalf.

They took the road to Rohan and soon enough their path lead them to Helm's Deep, seeking the safest place to protect them against the pressing threat of Sauron and Saruman.

The men at the keep were of little use; they were either too old or too young. They were doomed, stuck in a place of stone with no means of escape.

All of a sudden the sound of a horn broke through the chaos at the keep and it was Legolas who was the first to acknowledge it, "That is no Orc horn"

No, the Mirkwood prince knew that sound well. Elves.
