A/N. I realise, that elves don't normally go into deep sleeps or sleep much at all for that matter, but for the purpose of my story, they do. :)

Chapter 9 The 'Truth'
Astaldo and Belusewen reached Legolas' chambers but they were empty. They ran down to the bathing room...also empty. Then up to the King's chamber and on to the balcony.
Nobody.
"Don't tell me he's out target shooting today?" Astaldo spoke, exasperated.
"No Astaldo, he got back too late and was tired, he must be nearby." Belusewen's eyes searched out across the gardens.
They found the king in the small room, finishing his letters. Expaining what happened, the king seemed surprised at who this Lavishla even was, but he did not know Legolas' whereabouts.

Narninium and Harmony rushed up to Legolas but they did not want to startle him- he was sleeping soundly.
"My dear brother, you must wake from those beautiful dreams, Lavishla needs you." Harmony coaxed him with her voice. He bolted upright, clearly they had failed in their wish not to startle him.
"How long was I asleep?" He glanced at their sad faces. "what's wrong?"
"It's Lavishla." Harmony touched his arm gently.
When his eyes widened in shock, Narninium continued. "She's ill Legolas." Tears rolled down her cheeks.
"What do you mean? TELL ME!" He shook Narninium by the arms.
"Legolas!" Harmony intervened. "Astaldo has come for you, she's been poisoned and that's all we know. Quickly! He's in the palace looking for you right now."
Legolas jumped up and ran towards the main entrance, leaving the two elf maidens behind.
"Are you alright Narninium? I'm sorry he shook you like that. He's had an awful shock- waking up to hear that."
Narninium was sobbing again and sank to her knees. "He hates me now for sure." She cried.
"It's not your fault Narninium. We will talk with him later, when we know what's happened." She helped her up and they walked back to the centre of the garden. Astaldo and Legolas came running past, Legolas face dark with worry and anquish. They disappeared towards the forest.
"They will be back soon. Let us hope, all is well." Harmony stroked Narninium's hair in a gesture of comfort.
"All is not well Harmony." Narninium suddenly looked at her friend.
"What are you saying now Narninium?"
"I saw...I saw his ring as he lay asleep...all is not well." Her face had paled considerably and her deep blue orbs had a distant look to them. Puzzled, Harmony helped her up and took her back to her chambers. Narninium had slipped back into Westie and began to sing...her sad song filling the passages of the palace.

Legolas got to Villia's first as exhaustion took over Astaldo. He leapt up the tree and burst into Villia's house.
"Where is she Villia?" He called frantically- panic in his voice.
"Shhh...she's resting, you must remain calm if you are to help her Legolas." Legolas looked at her, his eyes demanding answers.
"I need to see her, what has happened to her?" Villia took him over to the table, where they sat down.
"She is asleep now and will recover Legolas. I have no doubt now that she was bitten by one the Mirkwood spiders. There are two fang wounds near her stomach. I have drawn the poison and she is healing, but it will take time."
Astaldo entered, his breathing heavy. He grabbed a mug of water, drinking quickly.
"Astaldo, please go home and rest awhile, she will be fine. I need to talk with Legolas."
"I have to return to border duty, are you sure she's alright now?"
"Yes my son, thanks to you. A minute or two later and she would no longer be with us." Astaldo watched the emotions pass over Legolas' face. He stood and approached the border guard.
"I'm truly indebted to you mellon nin." He hugged him tightly, "thank you for saving her life."
Astaldo embraced him warmly, "Really, mother did it you know...I only carried her here."
"Without you, she would have died in the forest, my son." Villia was behind him, her hands on his shoulders.
"I must return to the borders, I will be thinking of you both Legolas." He placed his fist over his heart and bowed to the prince. What passed between their eyes, did not need words. Astaldo kissed his mother and then opened the bedroom door, and watched Lavishla as she slept. Her head was moving side to side and her mouth mumbling something. He closed the door softly, grabbed some lembas bread and left the house.
"I need to see her Villia...please." Legolas moved towards the door.
"Legolas...I must tell you something first..."
Legolas had already gone in the room, his hands holding Lavishla's, silently shocked at how pale she seemed and the bandaged head surprised him.
"Her head?"
"She has a nasty gash there, but it has clotted now, do not worry." Legolas looked at her shirt, there were spots of blood around the torn cloth. He opened it gently, removed the compress and examined the fang bite.
"You have done a wonderful job Villia- I thank you with all my heart."
"You're welcome Prince Legolas." She smiled at him reaching for his hand. Carefully, Legolas replaced the cloth and closed her shirt. He sat beside her and stroked her cheek. Her lips were moving, whispering- her voice barely audible, but Legolas leaned in and listened closely. The words didn't make sense, they were all jumbled....and they were all Westie.

Harmony and Narninium got to her chambers, when Tinet appeared in the doorway, her face worried.
"Tinet please, could you make us all some strong tea and sprinkle some reviving spices in Narninium's one, she seems to be in a trance or something." Tinet curtsied and rushed off. Harmony removed Narninium's dress and helped her under the blankets. She was still singing and her eyes were chillingly blank. Harmony sat beside her, holding her hand.
"Narninium, can you speak to me? Where are you? Please answer me."
Narninium continued singing, her mind somewhere else. Tinet returned with the tea and placed it on the small bedside table.
"Thank you my dear." Harmony sipped her tea and decided to let Narninium's cool down a bit. "Lavishla's been hurt badly Tinet. Legolas has gone to see her now."
"Sorry to hear that milady, but what's wrong with Narninium?"
"I'm not sure, she seems to had some kind of shock and it's put her in this trance like state."
"Lavishla you mean?"
"No...it was after she saw Lavishla's ring on Legolas' finger- I think. She told me 'all is not well' and that's the last time she spoke. She was acting very strange about it all. What do you think Tinet?"
Tinet seemed to be in a turmoil of her own. She wriggled in her chair, nervously sipping her tea.
"What was said about that ring?...I don't know of it myself."
"Oh Legolas showed me this morning, proud of it actually. Lavishla had given it to him after their night of passion, and it's beautifully made." She was whispering now, for fear of upsetting Narninium even more. But Narninium continued to sing in her native language, taking no notice of them at all.
"Oh." Tinet replied, her voice tiny. "Did she happen to mention her feelings for Legolas?"
"only just now in the garden- why Tinet?...you knew?" Harmony's voice was incredulous.
"Yes, but she made me promise not to tell you. Sorry milady, I should have told you."
"No, not if you promised her. But why wouldn't she want me to know?"
"She thought you might not understand, that's all. I don't understand it myself, she's already got Astaldo. Bit greedy if you ask me."
"Tinet!" Harmony shot a look at Narninium, who had stopped singing, but her face was blank. "Let's try giving her some tea."
They propped her up with the pillows and got her to sip the hot liquid. She complied, but did not speak. Her eyes looked from Harmony to Tinet, confusion written in those azure depths.

Legolas looked at Villia, finally he understood what was going on. Villia watched him, his eyes searching hers. "I tried to warn you..." She said. Legolas held up his hand to silence her.
"It's ok Villia, the thought had already crossed my mind before now."
"Really?" Villia was surprised. "When?"
"When I met with her in the woods last night- I distinctly heard a lilt in her voice." Villia smiled sadly and patted his hand. "Also the first time we danced." He continued, "she made a comment about Narninium...that she never had been good at dancing, which struck me as rather strange...a slip of the tongue you might say." His face grew grim. "Why do you think she lied to me Villia?"
"She must have her reasons, but she can't hide here forever from Narninium. They're sure to met, then what?"
"I realise this. I do not want to lose her either. Her father will now expect the King to return her and Narninium as soon as possible. I cannot let this happen...not after what we shared last night. Maybe Father will speak with her people, and we can come to some arrangement."
"Legolas, she has lied to you. Do you really want to be with her that much? I have my doubts about Narninium as well. Astaldo has fallen for and I know I will not change his mind on the matter."
Legolas knew those doubts well, for had he not had them himself?
Lavishla stirred, her eyes fluttering and the mumbling started again.
"I know now, after nearly losing her today, how dear she is to me Villia." He stroked her magenta braids and arranged them neatly either side of her face. Carefully he wiped the mud from her cheek with a damp cloth. He was so gentle, his hands light as silk- delicately cleansing her.
Slowly her eyes opened and she struggled to focus on him.
"Thalia...Thalia, it's okay, it's me...Legolas." For a second he noted that same panicked look on her face as the night of the dance. "Stay calm, meleth nin. You have a lot of poison in your body. You must stay still so you can get better."
Thalia's eyes swivelled to Villia, tears in them. Villia spoke to her in Westie.
Thalia tried to get up but Legolas held her back with some force. "You mustn't! You may still perish." His voice was filled with emotion. "I can't let that happen..." Thalia lay back, tears making a slow descent down her cheeks.
"You do not hate me?" Her lips quivered. Legolas shook his head.
"How could I? You gave me your ring and I gave you my heart. I don't want you to leave."
"what of Narninium?"Her voice was weak and it took great effort for her to speak.
"She doesn't know, but it won't be long till she sees you and then she will want to take you home. How did you ever expect to stay out of her sight with her at the palace?" He held her hands gently.
Villia intervened.
"Legolas, she must rest, do not worry her with all this now. We want her to make a full recovery and she can stay here with me. No one will be any the wiser."
"Yes, you're right Villia. I will talk with you some more once you have recovered meleth nin. You need to rest." With that, he leaned over her, his lips brushing against hers, soft as feathers on a summers breeze. "It's best if I return to the palace, I will be back to check on you soon." He rose to leave, willing himself to, as every fibre of his body told him to stay.
"Come back in 3 hours- in that time she will sleep Legolas." Villia gave her the special brew she had prepared, holding her head up, Thalia drank it all. "This will help revive her and cleanse the body of that foul poison. She will fall back into a deep sleep."
Thalia's eyes were already heavy as the potion began to work. Legolas hugged Villia and thanked her again. "I will return in 3 hours, watch her closely Villia...she is strong in spirit, this I know, but also strong in body...I want her here when I return."
He stepped outside, nimbly he descended. His feet made no sound as they reached the cool, mossy earth below.
