This story has been floating around in my mind and demanded to be written.
It features a darker Elladan than we are used to and a young vulnerable Legolas.
For the purpose of this story, I have decided (with some advice from the great
and wonderful Min.) that the age of majority for an elf is 500 years. Legolas
will reach his majority during the year of their betrothal. NO underage
sex!!!!

Sleeping With the Enemy
Prologue

Mithrandir stared at the gathered parties and wondered how he would ever
explain the importance of an alliance between Imladris and Taur-nu-Fuin. The
once beautiful, vast forest was already darkening, but Thranduil refused help
from all other realms to fight the growing darkness. He was a proud, arrogant
king, much like his father, and despised the Noldor. Never forgiving them for
not coming to his father�s rescue before it was too late to save him had made
him bitter and intolerable.
Elrond was wise and just as proud as Thranduil, but you could at least talk
to him about an alliance. The half-elf knew the evil forces were growing, and
eventually all the people of Arda would have to unite to defeat Sauron at last.
Mithrandir wondered how far Elrond would be willing to go to see that darkness
was obliterated from Middle Earth. The task set before the Istari was almost
unachievable, but he had to see it completed. The future rested on his
shoulders.
�The time has come for all of the elven realms to form an unbreakable
alliance,� Mithrandir began, his voice firm and loud. �Lothlorien and
Imladris are protected by the power of the rings, but the darkness at Dol Guldur
has spread in Taur-nu-Fuin, causing Thranduil to move his people to Emyn Fuin.�
�The last elfling was born nearly 500 years ago in Greenwood the Great to
Thranduil and his queen; a child of light who will accomplish great things in
his life. Legolas has been trained by the finest warriors and schooled by the
wisest scholars available to him. The Valar have kept this young one safe, for
his mission in life is to help save the people of Arda.�
Thranduil, who had been sitting with a smug look on his face as he listened
to the praise offered his youngest, looked at the Istari with barely concealed
shock. �How would you know this?�
�The Valar know what is in store for Arda and all of her residents,
Thranduil,� Mithrandir replied with slight annoyance. �Legolas will play a
part in the last battle between lightness and dark. His destiny was decided
before he was conceived.�
�Our purpose today is to ensure his training as a warrior continues and his
potential for survival and success are enhanced. An alliance between Imladris
and Taur-nu-Fuin will offer Legolas the best chance.�
Thranduil stood so quickly his chair fell behind him. �What!? Align with
Imladris? I hardly think Legolas� education as a warrior will benefit from
such an alliance. There must be another way.�
�If I may ask, Mithrandir,� Elrond began calmly, �what sort of alliance
do you expect us to form? We have never been on friendly terms and I do not
think Thranduil�s son would be comfortable here. There are too many prejudices
between our peoples. For once I agree with the king. There must be another way.�
�An alliance between your houses must be formed,� Mithrandir stated
determinedly. �Legolas will be bound to your eldest son, Elrond.�
�Elladan will never agree to be bound to an elf who has not reached the age
of majority, much less a *Wood elf*,� Elrond argued loudly.
�Aye, and I will not allow Legolas to bond to this *half-elf�s*
spawn!� Thranduil bellowed. �You will have to think of another way.�
It was at this time that Thranduil and
Elrond began to argue amongst themselves, growing louder with each passing
moment. As the two advanced upon one another, their counselors and captains
intervened and pulled them apart. Last minute snarls and angry words were
exchanged before Mithrandir stepped in.
�You will defy the Valar because of your inability to get along?� the
Istari roared. �Sit down, both of you, and listen to me carefully. The
decisions have already been made. You have no say in the matter.
�Thranduil, I suggest you return home and prepare Legolas to meet his newly
betrothed. You will be expected back here after the spring thaw. Bring
everything he will need, for he will be here for the entire year of their
betrothal,� Mithrandir ordered adamantly. �Elrond, Elladan should be
informed of this betrothal and told that a binding contract will be signed once
Legolas reaches the valley.
�I will visit Taur-nu-Fuin to discuss the importance of this with young
Legolas, and I expect him to already be aware of what is going to happen,� the
Istari informed Thranduil. �Elladan is old enough to understand what his duty
will be, but you must make him aware of the importance of this union, Elrond.
�As far as I am concerned, this meeting is over,� Mithrandir said,
standing. �I will not tolerate arguments between the two you. It is time to
end this animosity and act your ages.�
With that, the Istari left the room, leaving King Thranduil and Lord Elrond
to sort out what they had just been told.
