Cripes, I hope you haven't forgot about us, your (and Shagrat's) loyal fans eh? I feel bad for not reviewing sooner, but rest assured, I have not forgot about this jewel of yours.
You know how fond I am of this story, and I wish I could give it a really stellar review, but it's through no fault of yours that I cannot. I've never been a excellent reviewer, and I really hate that I am not at times like this when I want to say how appreciated a story is without sounding trite. Know though that I do love this story. (The triteness again, see?)
I must say that Faramir is severly starting to grate on my nerves.
And Shagrat's suffering, emotional, mental and physical just makes things inside ache.
And now Ludlow, the one small creature I at this point trust to atleast try and help Shagrat, has been tossed into that pen of Orcs and Uruks. Please do not keep us in suspense much longer, but then again, don't rush the creativity.
And oi, don't worry about the story "dragging on and on" as you put it in your latest A/N, please, by all means, make it some fifty chapters or so. A hundred is good, too, tee hee.

Hrm, also, don't know if you're interested, but during my excursions I've found some really good orcslash images. Orcs/orcs, orcs/humans, etc. Just FYI in case you are fond of such, drop me an e-mail in that case and I'll send them to you.

Toodles for now, and do take care.

Ok, I was really happy when someone showed me your first five chapters of this story on Library of Moria. I was even happier when I stumbled on the first fifteen here on aff.net! For some reason I thought you couldn't review unless you were a member and I kept putting off getting an account, but now two chapters later I've realized that you don't have to be logged in to comment.

Then I wrote a lengthy review - chapter highlights - but managed to delete it before I could post. So here's Attempt #2:

    1. At His Majesty’s Pleasure
Noble Faramir chasing a battered Orkish war veteran of "respectable years" around the room like a rake from an 18th century novel.

    2. Trouble and Strife
That "slightly crazed and antic gleam" in Faramir's eye. It made me giggle.

    3. Orc in Ithilien
Paragraphs 2-4: Shagrat's thoughts on Faramir's cruddy estate. I really liked that for some reason.

    4. Moonlight Flit
Shagrat's brief fit of vampiric temptation. Funny since I don't like vampires all that much but I always like it when Orcs go for blood.

    5. The Powers Behind the Throne
Eowyn and the dumbass doc irritate me.

    6. An Orc and His Warg
I love the idea of a mongrel Warg, and I also like that it was the same Warg from "Captain of Mordor."

    7. Orcish Reunion
This entire chapter was a joy. New Orcs! Entertaining dialogue, good characterization, and Ludlow Pennycress was a treat. And it was just wincingly funny to watch the inexorable progression of Shagrat's little reunion from bad to worse.

    8. A Change in Travel Plans
“Shagrat! You shirt-lifting bastard! Give me back my bleedin’ Hobbit!” I could *see* everything that happened in this chapter, and it had me rolling.

    9. After the Night Before
Even though I dislike Hrodgar, I liked the insights we received into his character. He's actually somewhat well-intentioned, not just another Grima Wormtongue. But ugh, the leafleting campaign.

    10. The Series of Flashbacks Continues
It really irritates me what a crappy job Faramir does of "taking care" of his Orc. I mean honestly.

    11. A Failed Resolution
...that said, I was really glad of these flashbacks because ever since starting this story I had wanted the immediate aftermath of the events in "Captain of Mordor" - you know, what happened to the two of them *before* getting to Faramir's cruddy estate. And, you know, just seeing the two of them together. It was distressing to see Shagrat and Faramir parted again so early in the story, even if it did kick off a thoroughly engaging plot.

    12. Not Particularly Sweet Mystery of Love
FROT!! Most slash stories don't have it, so that was a treat. Commenting on that aspect first makes me sound like a smut-driven fangirl, though. I mean sure, sex is lovely, but it's the two characters and their pairing that I love. Honestly, you could write a chapter about them visiting a pastry shop and I'd be...bemused, to be sure, but still enthralled.

    13. Plan B
Ludlow as Shagrat's legal representative! And the clerk's very tactful greeting: "A one-eyed Orc and a three-legged Warg? Is that it? Halfling doesn’t look like he’s all there either. Haven’t any of you people got the full set of parts you was born with?"

    14. Monarch of All He Surveys
Laughter about Shagrat's bizarre windfall in the mountains, followed by anger and indignation at his (unsurprising) treatment by the mob. I've really come to appreciate Ludlow. He's more than a goofy little earpiece for Shagrat's maundering: he's a well-developed character in his own right, and I was touched by his interaction with Shagrat in this chapter.

    15. Dramatic....Entrance
Faramir's sheer ineffectuality as a leader of men after all his years of distinguished service is both bewildering and infuriating. I know being drugged half the time has a lot to do with it, though, and his reputation has certainly suffered due to his liaison with Shagrat. But damn. I didn't respond to the sex in this chapter with unmitigated enthusiasm, but then again, I don't think we were really meant to. Some troubling stuff coming out of Shagrat's mouth - well, troubling for me anyway: "That’s what you’ve been after all this time, a bit of rough treatment?" and "I’m not rodgering you if I have to look at you while I’m about it." I was worried that he was going to unleash an unmitigated punish-fuck and when he didn't I was relieved. I guess even when he's angriest, when it comes to Faramir, Shagrat doesn't have a serious punish-fuck in him. That said, so much has happened at this point, I don't know how they can be together happily. I still want it, though. God I want it.

    16. ....And Exit
I keep wanting to know what happened to Eowyn. All disgust about Orcs aside, I don't understand why she is so invested in Faramir's thing with Shagrat. SHE left HIM, after all. I find her prejudice toward Orcs unappealing but understandable: it's her constant histrionics, underhandedness and unmitigated dishonesty that I want to shake her for. The Eowyn in the books disobeyed orders and assumed a false identity. She was certainly capable of deception; she was also capable of shedding the disguise and standing for something when the shit hit the fan. But issuing orders and saying they've come from Faramir, keeping him doped on drugs for months on end, lying in the face of direct confrontation in this chapter...and for what? I keep hoping that she'll do something to redeem herself at some point, or that I will get more insight into just what is going on in this woman's head. What happened to you, Eowyn?
Also, it was high time seeing Shagrat get a few things off his chest - and Faramir to, for that matter.

    17. Another near-death experience
Shouldn't have laughed at the scene where Ludlow finds Shagrat but it was just morbidly funny. Faramir being stupid again - *why* did he put Shagrat in the Orc pen? as opposed to, say, popping him in his tent and throwing a tarp over him? (Goldilocks really is a suitable nickname for him. He's such an effing blond.) And of course Ludlow knows just how to end the chapter. "How have you all been keeping?" indeed. I can hardly wait to see what happens next.

Oh that was such a funny ending! I mean panicky yes but, so funny. I do love ludlow he's such a great invention of yours, a perfect companion for Shagrat (and orc and a hobbit, either a disastor or pure genius, you proved it was genius..of coarse). And Shagrat, only Shagrat could still be being stuborn as he died! Stuborn and fatalistic, it would be endearing in any other circumstances but since his fatalism seems to be ruining the main romance I think someone should give him a slap! Also while talking about slap giving, Farimir has one coming his way. What can't he make hs mind up! Is it really that hard a choice? NO but he STILL lingers between the two and quite frankly his treatment of Shagrat was..REALLY REALLY MEAN! And cold!
See this is one of the things I like about your story, not only have you attempted, and done great justice to trying to chatacterise an orc, Shagrat is entrily beleivable. Not only do you invent other great characters like Ludlow but you also bring humour into the story, which could be potentialy just a long angsty whine, but no isn't. Is in fact a really great fasinating story. But you also don't make it a schmulsy romance either (not that I'm against a little schmalts here and there esepcialy if by schmalts we really mean hot sex) but you are actualy writing a story here not some sappy fanfic peace and your doing it really well!
And can I also jus say that I really like NessSachiel suggestions of a side story, that would be REALLY sweet and nice, especial what happened in Ithilian which we didn't get to hear about, I always wanted to know
So, great chapter, as always, write more (feed an adiction)
    Mary
(Also sorry if some of this doesn't make any sence, a bit high at the time and thoughts a bit jumbled, swear next review I send you wil be more coherant!

    Yeay!

I keep checking the site in case there's more and now and then I'm rewarded. I think this is a great story, and I'm really looking forward to seeing how your wrap it up. (But not too quickly, the pace is about what it needs.)

    hello :)
    sorry, that I did not review yours 2 last chapters...but I was really pissed of about that new "I am over 17" part of aff.net. I understand, that they must have done that, but...I just hate to log in, sometimes few times a day, and be greated by that damned box =.=;
    ok. I'm finished.
about our little Orc...will you kill him?! You can't! please...I love him like...any other nice orc o.O and what about Faramir? I just want to screem "MAKE UP YOUR MIND, DAMMIT!!", but he won't listen anyway, will he? ehhh. ANYWAY. Keep up the good work!
(p.s. Do you write "happy ending sex?" and what about that series we were talking about? I love Shagart :) and Faramir too :) maybe side story about they're first day in Ithilien? or they're first night in bedroom? or they're first trip to kithen/hall/stables/(insert ANY room)? Or something? I don't want to ask for sex only (although shy Shagrat is really cute), I will read some funny parts...or sad (HAPPY ENDING!!) or anything you will write :*)
    Love

Oh, FINALY Shagrat gets to say what he really thinks, finaly. Because quite frankly the way Farimir treded him was slightly better than shameful and i was wondering how long Shagrat would put up with it. But now he's got it of his chest, yeah! Having said that, really MEAN way to end it. Whats wrong with him, iI hipe he's not mortaly wounded (though I supose mortaly wounded for an orc is v. different from that of a human) anyway good chapter, some thigns finaly got revealed but seriously they can't part, again!

Hi, I just wanted to say sorry for not reviewing the last chapter sooner, I've been without internet for a while so only just got to read it. I wanted to thank you and review chapter 15 before I read 16. Obviously its the chapter we've all been waiting for, the reunion and obviously I can't wait for more, but I really like the way you've done Eyown in all this, and I feel so bad for her (while obviously hating her since she is keeping Farimir and Shagrat appart and being a general obstical to the main parring) but I mean from her perspective just imagine it, your husband (estranged as he is) cheating on you twice with an orc, its gotta suck. Though obvioulsy as a supporter of this pairing I have no sympathy and say get out the way of uh, true love/lust? Anyway thanks for the chapter it was as usual really good, if I didn't love the two main characters so much I'd want to hit them over the head for being so bloody annoying but well thats probably why I love them so much. Anyway thanks, keep up the good work (see I'm subtle right?)

Oh, another update! I was so happy to see this, and even happier when you seem to have granted my wish in my last review! *g*

I’m really loving the way you write these two, and if an orc could ever be considered “cute” then Shagrat is it.

I’m not one for happy endings really. God knows, I have yet to write one, but I really, desperately hope you have a happy ending planned for these two. Having read all of your Shagrat/Faramir stories, it would be absolutely tragic if you didn’t get to write: “And they lived…” at the end.

Throughout your stories we have had this unlikely but refreshing mix of humour (almost to the point of satire) and sexual tension along with the stunningly dark romance (most notably in Nazgûl’s Prey) that has me completely in awe of you, and rooting for Shagrat/Faramir all the way.

Thank you for sharing this with us.

    Eagerly awaiting the next chapter…

    Pip :)

D'aww, they are united - somewhat - in a bittersweet way, eh? I truly loved the sex scene, arousing, rough, gritty in a very good way ... well, Orcish - just the way I like it, hohoho. I really cannot wait to see what happens next, you know. I lament that you will eventually end this story, but I hope that you will bring us more hot, eloquent Orcsmut... otherwise I might just throw some sort of hissy fit. =D I also lament the fact that AFF got rid of the Recommended Reading sections one could have in the profile. I used to have Captain of Mordor along with the Muzluk stories in mine, but they got rid of that function. Well, if they ever bring it back, this story and the others you have written are going there again. Toodles for now, and of course, Happy New Years and all that jazz.

Hmm! It figures, how an order like that seemed so strange from Faramir? Oh, woe to poor Eowyn, frightened by a little competition!

I very much enjoyed Captain of Morder and am delighted to find a sequel. What a wonderful combination of Uruk and Hobbit. Paid a band of orcs for a sightseeing trip? Acting as a legal representative? Stumbled onto an entire unmined vein of mithril- great stuff. Hope there's more soon.

I’m terrible at lurking around good stories, but I just wanted to let you know I’m still reading and enjoying this. Your writing flows so well that reading it is more like watching a film, and the dialogue of the characters is wonderful!

I hope you will give us all a present for christmas and post the next chapter soon. Shagrat and Faramir together again *sighs* I really never thought I’d say that… But since I have, I might as well go all the way and say that I hope it will be NC-17 *g*

Thank you so much for sharing your story.
