P.P.S. *waves back at Sandra* Hi! You know me too well, I really DID enjoy the bounty of brilliant Boromir banter! ;p

“I … shook my chest in his face.” See? Alura even admits it! She’s up to no good. Throwing herself at my poor Boromir, the man who’s supposed to marry her cousin. For shame!

Your characterization of Boromir is … interesting. Instead of the sober, duty-driven, tragic hero, we have the “kid brother” always pestering his elders and getting under foot. Believe me, I know about pesky little brothers! *rolls her eyes* He had a point about Alura, she is very sensitive, and too easily riled. She needs to take my sainted mother’s sage advice, “If you ignore him, he’ll leave you alone.” *grins*

P.S. Hope and all your loyal reviewers have a happy, healthy and prosperous new year! *hugs*

YEAY! Wow, this is a fantastic plot. Or is that a new twist? Whatever. I love it.

    *... and posting after reading...*

Aaah, lots of lovely little Boromir banter! Frey is going to have such a field day with this stuff not to mention with whatever you have in store for Captain "Snake Pants" and his brother. :D

And may I say that I agree with Boromir: Alura is a bit of a bitch, isn't she?

And oh, this feeling of foreboding as we get deeper into the plot and realize that things are very likely not what they seem. Or as Freya would say: "DOOOOOOOOM!" :D *waves at Freya*

Keep it up and keep it coming and most of all have a great New Year's Eve party tomorrow!

Mmmh... maximum freak factor, so this is what it's called in Middle Earth, hehhe! For some reason I have this mental image of Eowyn asking Boromir: "Is this a snake in your trouser or are you just happy to see me?!" :D

So, now that Faramir is “free to pursue other females.” Would that include the fair Alura? Who, by the way, seems to like playing with fire. Curious to see if Boromir was going to try something else, eh? She’s not as innocent as she’d like us to believe, tempting my dear, sweet, noble Boromir that way. Shame on her! Beware, Faramir, she’ll likely toy with you and then rip out your still-beating heart! (sorry for THAT visual)

I was wondering about the timeframe of this story. Keeping in mind that it is AU, where in the Professor’s timeline would this be relative to the forming of the Fellowship?

OK, I have but one question...

"Just HOW strategically placed were the snakes?!" :D And no, don't answer that, Elven, I am a big girl, I figured it out, lol! I am afraid I will never quite look at the movies and Sean Bean again in the future. ;)

Have to keep this short again, still on holiday, just to let you know I am still reading and cannot wait to see what happens during the ball. *rubbs hands gleefully* If we don't talk to each other before the year is through I wish you and your loved ones a Happy New Year! :)

And oh, may I just say I hate it if this site eats my reviews? This is my second attempt already... again. *glares at adultff.net*

    Hey, ladies!

Just to let you know that as off tomorrow I will be gone for a few weeks taking an extended and VERY well deserved (trust me on that!) holiday with my little family. I wish you two and all of your readers and reviewers Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. Talk to you again in 2005! :) Sandra

I’m gone for a little while, and what do I come back to? Not one, but TWO updates! Go, Elven!

So, Boromir & Eowyn, eh? You’re likely to make some of the purists more than a little miffed… Of course, maybe they shouldn’t be reading AU, eh? *grins evilly* And just what does Boromir think he’s doing with Alura? He needs to remember he’s marrying a Shield Maiden, not some pampered, simpering Gondorian maiden. Eowyn’s likely to geld him before the wedding night, if he keeps that up! Heck, Alura may not give Eowyn the chance! *lol*

Just realized I wasn't really making myself clear in my earlier post. What I meant regarding the perspective thing was: TWO women (either OC plus book character or two OCs) getting involved with our dear MALE book characters (Bormor, Faramir etc.), so not just one female lead character (and I am not talking about F/F/M here, either). So I wasn't talking about slash, just about actively using two female leads in your stories. Just an idea as it might give you a chance to play with your plots a little. Taking that plus combining it with a plot like Sons of Gondor or Masks might be fun. I enjoyed SoG, btw, as it had a few surprise turns (even though I looked through Aragorn's little number quite soon, but hey, that is just me, lol!), but I never would have guessed it was him spying at the river on the way to Gondor. But I am getting OT here, I was just going to clarify my earlier question. And again it is really just a question, not so much a suggestion. After all you girls write the stuff you feel most comfortable with, OK?

Gaaaaa, I HATE this site! I finished my review and was pressing the review button when it all disappeared! We hates it... OK, there we go again...

    ***

Aaaa, good girl, Elven. I knew I would get you that way! In fact we had another great ROTK EE night, which is the reason I am still up at this unearthly hour of the night and decided to have a look for "Mask".

OK, back to your story, what to say about it whithout repeating myself?

I love the way you talk about Boromir's stormy eyes, because regardless of whether or not you make him good or bad in your stories, I DO think movie Boromir has stormy eyes! :)

I love the way you use the mask metaphor to describe Eowyn's fear before the upcoming wedding. So the title "Masks" really has a double meaning. Very nice!!!

I love the fact that Eowyn plays a more prominent role in this store. It is great balance to have the OC and Eowyn on one side and Faramir and Boromir on the other. I think if you keep it up it will help the story to stay dynamic. Plus I like to see a female character at the OC's side for a change rather then female OC plus guys (good and bad). :) BTW, have you ever thought of doing a story that centers around an OC + book/movie female character or two female OCs and changing perspectives? Or telling a story from a female OC and one of the guy's perspective in a story? I was just wondering and yes, I know one shouldn't change POVs in a story. It is just that have always been meaning to ask out of interest. :)

And oh that wonderful sense of foreboding! You can already feel that little tingle. I cannot wait to see what is going to happen, but I have a feeling you have some very good plans for those masks, the real ones and the metaphoric ones.

Great work and really originally plot, Elven. Keep going!

If this site eats my review again, I will FREAK!.... *presses review button*

Aaah, good girl! I knew I would get you that way. *g* We had another great ROTK EE night, which is why I am still up at this unholy hour of the night. Anyway, what can I say about your latest chapter without repeating myself? First of all (and I am ALREADY repeating myself) I love the fact that for once another female character plays a greater part alongside your story-OC. I think it gives the story a fantastic balance of having the OC + Eowyn on the one side and Boromir and Faramir on the other.

Also, I love how you already used the metapher of wearing a mask when you talked about Eowyn's fear regarding the upcoming marriage. So the title masks really has a double meaning in this story. Very nice!

I love the fact you talk about Boromir's stormy eyes (regardless of whether you make him a goody or a bady in your stories), because I think movie Bormir really DOES have stormy eyes.

And oh that wonderful sense of foreboding. Cannot wait to see how this story continues! Such a great read so far and you are doing a great job, Elven.

I really love the constellation in this story and the set up. In the first chapter, we get to know the two women better, the second one starts with a look at Boromir and Faramir. I also love the fact we get to see a bit more of Eowyn and that she is not just a mere sidekick. It is also exiting to see that we have yet to find out, what Denethor's marriage plans are exactly. Wonderful job so far, please continue! I hold my breath! :)

    P.P.S.:

I really should learn to put it all in one review, shouldn't I? *g* Anyway, I reread your first chapter again and I am in love with the first paragraph. It's beautiful and captures the mood of Rohan (not unlike the one we see in the movies) perfectly. And I finally noticed what the masks are all about... or so I think. Mmmmh, something tells me you have plans for this mask ball.

Oh and ladies... enjoy watching the EE today: The first thing you should check out is one of the Easter Eggs. It is on the first disk, go to the scenes selection, scroll down to the last one then move down and you will see a golden ring. The easter egg is a mock interview that Dom did with Elijah posing as German journalist Hans Jensen and it is so funny I almost wet my pants! :D
