One to the Other
Thranduil used all of his tact, knowledge, charm, every
skill he had to get all the information he could obtain from Stoker, who was
pleased, if not surprised, at this evidence of his influence over Mirkwood’s king. At
last satisfied there was nothing more Stoker could give him without becoming
too great a threat to him, his son or his kingdom, Thranduil
poured from the pitcher on the table.
“We will drink to our new understanding.” He paused and then handed the goblet to
Stoker. “You should not have threatened
my son.”
Stoker
took the goblet and said “It was necessary to my plans.” He smiled at the Elvenking,
one of the few beings he’d known in his long life to have earned his
respect. “You must know, Thranduil, I never tell anyone everything.” He drank.
“What
a coincidence.” Thranduil
smiled as Stoker slumped to the table.
“Neither do I.”
But Stoker was already asleep.
‘Now’
thought Thranduil, ‘to be rid of the lot of them.’
Legolas
sat on the edge of his bed, watching Orenin sleep. He had helped her drink the blood he had obtained
for her and then she had drifted into a healing sleep. He undressed her and watched as her wounds
healed. It was a fascinating thing to watch;
she healed faster than the elves did.
Legolas had considered leaving her to go to his father to try to help
him - to do what? He smiled to
himself. Orenin was with him and safe;
his father could tend to his business.
Legolas
leaned over her as she stirred in his bed and looked up at him with a
smile. He returned the smile and kissed
her. “I love you, Orenin,” he
whispered. He stood and shed his clothes
with a speed that made her laugh. When
he was naked, he got into the bed and they moved into each other’s arms. She caressed his face, his throat, his chest
and sighed in pleasure as he moved above her. She raised her head to kiss and
lick at his throat, shoulders and chest.
He shook with want at the feel of her mouth on him. “Orenin, you feel glorious. Ahhhh…” His hips rocked against her; he fit so well
into her.
She
gasped. She couldn’t think, only feel
the rhythm of his motion. “Legolas,
please, please!” she gasped, her arms tightening around him. She moved quickly against him, meeting his
hard thrusts.
She
felt so good; he cried out “Orenin, Orenin!”
He found his rhythm and just as he felt he would explode, he felt her
muscles clench him and heard her cry out his name in her release. A few more thrusts and he joined her in the
flood of joy that consumed them.
After
a few moments of recovery, he smiled down at her and nuzzled her throat. “Orenin, love, you are too quick.”
She
laughed. “Legolas, love, I am too
greedy.” She stroked his face with her
fingers. “We should go help the Doctor. Let me up.”
She moved from under him and got out of the bed.
He
watched her pick up her clothes from where he had dropped them. “All will be well. My father can deal with Stoker.” He watched her dress for a few seconds then
also got up out of the bed.
“Legolas,”
she laughed as he came over to her; his fingers followed hers down her shirt,
unfastening what she had just fastened.
“We can’t just stay here. We
should find out what’s going on.” But she
couldn’t resist holding him and she put her arms around him. She couldn’t care what went on outside his
arms when she was in them.
“My
father has everything under his control.
He knows what he is doing.” After
giving her another quick kiss, Legolas pulled on a blue silk robe that was
hanging over a chair. He gestured toward
a tray of food and water on the table.
“While you slept, my father brought us this.”
“That
was kind of him.”
Legolas
wrapped his arms around her, pulling her close, and kissed her forehead. “Beloved, come here. There is one thing to do before we go.” He took her hand and walked over to the
table.
He
picked up a small box that was on the table and opened it, showing her two
simple silver rings inside it. “These
are my betrothal rings.” He took one of
the rings out of the box and looked at her, putting all he felt in his heart
into his eyes. “Before Eru, I choose to bind myself to you, Orenin. The path you walk will be the path I walk;
the stars you see will be the stars I see.
In you, I have found my heart. I
give myself to you, never to be without you.”
Eyes
wide, looking into her eyes, hoping, praying, he took her hand and placed the
ring on the small finger of her right hand.
Legolas’s heart was pounding in his chest; he prayed silently ‘Please,
dear Valar, I am not wrong about this.’
Orenin
looked down at the other ring in the box.
She took it out of the box and thought for a few moments and then looked
up at him with love in her eyes. “With
all that I am, I choose to bind myself to you Legolas. In your eyes, I there is love; in your arms,
I find peace. And in your smile, I can
see the sun again. I give myself to you,
never to be without you.”
She
placed the ring on the small finger of his right hand and, looking at this
exquisite creature of light who loved her, for the first time in the centuries
since she had turned, she dared to feel hope.
They
kissed each other deeply, holding each other tight. And afterwards, naked in their bed, holding
each other, she asked him to sing for her.
Later,
Legolas got up, dressed again, and went to the tray, poured water into goblets
for them and ate some fruit. “Perhaps we
should go find my father now.”
She
yawned and stretched in the bed. “Do we
have to?” Her eyes closed in bliss. “Do we have to leave here?” She sighed and watched him eat for a while,
then got up, dressed and went to sit with him.
They toasted each other “To you Love,” drinking the water he’d poured
from the pitcher. She yawned and gave
him a wry smile. “Your father might not
be as happy with this as you think.” And
then, she laid her head on her arm on the table, and fell asleep.
Legolas
looked her quizzically, then, suddenly sleepy himself, stretched out his ringed
hand to cover hers, laid his head down on his arm, and felt sleep wash over him
as well.
The
Doctor and Sarah Jane looked up as they heard the door to their cell being
unlocked. Thranduil
came into the dungeon cell. “Doctor, I
offer you a choice. You may take Stoker,
the bomb, that monster, your traveling devices and get off my world.”
The
Doctor smiled widely. “Or…?”
“If
you are still on my world at the end of the day, you will all be dead.”
“That’s
some choice” said Sarah Jane grimly.
“One
way or another, I want that creature gone,” Thranduil
snapped.
“You’re
the one who gave him his influence…” began Sarah Jane.
“I
am not talking about Stoker,” he interrupted.
He waved his hand and a guard entered the room, carrying the still
unconscious Countess. “This
evil creature. I want this away
from my son.”
“The Countess? I
don’t understand” said Sarah Jane, looking over at the Doctor.
“I
think I do” said the Doctor. He looked
at the Countess. “They have been
together, Sir. You realize it may
already be too late?”
“Stoker
became a threat; I wanted Legolas away from him while I have done what I had to
do. I could do that using that
creature. Now I have no more use for
her. And I want her gone.”
The
Doctor said “But your son…?”
“…will
learn to confine his heart to his own kind,” the King said sternly, then sighed. “If it
takes Legolas centuries to forget her, it is still nothing to what will happen
to him if she stays. What is your
answer?”
“That’s
gratitude for you” said Sarah Jane, disgustedly.
“It
is my gratitude that gives you the choice.
You could all be dead now” said Thranduil softly.
Amdirion,
Thranduil’s chief healer, came into Legolas’s rooms. He’d been told most of the story by Thranduil and had gone to the dungeon to examine the
Countess before going to check on Legolas.
He was in his bed, sleeping peacefully.
Amdirion examined him, satisfying himself that Legolas would recover
from the waters of the dark river with no ill effects. And then frowned at what he saw.
“Oh, Legolas. What
have you done?” And he looked down at
the sleeping prince for a while before going to find Thranduil.
He
found Thranduil in Stoker’s chambers in a very good
mood. “Amdirion, you missed a
miracle. I am sorry you could not come
with us into the forest.” He and Silinde had watched in wonder as the Doctor’s traveling
machine had disappeared. The Doctor had
assured him he could control Stoker’s machine from his; he and Silinde had returned to the palace in time to watch
Stoker’s traveling machine disappear.
“Majesty,
where are the strangers? Where is
Legolas’s lady?”
“Gone
this morning,” said Thranduil with a laugh. “Silinde and I took
them back to the Doctor’s traveling machine.
I told the Doctor to take the whole lot and go and if I saw them again,
they would die.” He looked at Amdirion
wryly. “I think he believed me. I have my kingdom back, I have peace with
those dwarves and my son is safe.”
“You
should know Legolas is wearing his betrothal ring.”
The
smile dropped from Thranduil’s face and he said softly “Foolish child.” To Amdirion he said “I suppose I shouldn’t be
surprised.”
“Sire! He’s bound
himself to her!”
Thranduil shrugged.
“No contract he made with that creature would be binding. Not only is she a mortal; she’s a
monster. Our laws would never hold him
to that promise, to any vow made with her.”
“You
know him. He will hold himself to
it.” Amdirion looked at him
sharply. “He’ll wake soon
Thranduil. He will need you.”
