This was a great chapter. You have many of them to be sure but every once in awhile one of them just shines out above the rest. This one does. It makes us understand Thranduil so much better. Also hate him so much more.
Truth. It isn't truth tht hurts or heals but how you use truth, how you view it. I know Thranduil and his kingdom have had it rough and they have had to fight long and hard to get where they are but it is based on shifing sand.
I too look askance at the Kin Slayings and wonder at the Noldor. The Valar are a puzzle because we don't know why they do some things and let other things go. The song has to be sung until Eru declares it is time to cleanse all things and start again if that is his wish for the song.
Just as Ningloriel was not a very constant mother so Meril's motherly concern has it's drawbacks also. They are both very selfish. Only if Thranduil intercedes with these two youngest will they have the life he wants them to have. He totally ignored Legolas and left him to his selfish, promiscuous mother and so the problems being manifest now can be laid at the king's door. He will just step over them and ignore them if he can. He may not be able to do that much longer.
I truly feel now that he will never allow his fea to go the the Halls of Mandos or try to dwell in Aman. He has put himself in such a bad position that there is no way he would every leave the Halls. He has the same sin as Lucifer, better to reign in Hell than serve in Heaven.
What Thranduil has done is much worse than the Kin Slaying. That was just the hroa and it would be succored until rebirth. But to enslave the fea is beyond what the Valar would ever allow. He is on their hit list. No sin could possibly be worse.
I don't like his view of the wood elves but what else is new. You have already made clear that he just uses them as a means towards an end. His father loved them and their way of life. He surrounds himself with Sindar and doesn't even know the most basic laws and rules of the sylvan culture unless he can make use of them for his own ends.
I know he "loves" his offspring but only for what they represent, promise and that is HIS dynasty. I enjoyed Ningloriel being the instrument the Valar chose to punish him. He probably transfers this to Legolas and oh Legolas will punish him just by surviving and thriving.
So much he has to pay for his sins and so much time to pay it in. I am smiling here and it is not a very nice smile.
    Great chapter. giggle

Oh goodie the twins. You write them in such a delicious manner. They just seem to be so alluring. Sigh.
This is another great beginning. The lovely descriptions of the weather, the forest, the rivers and streams but all is not well in Imladris. No one singing, no elves around, the vision of Imladris, deserted and in ruins. Well it's protector is in ruins that's for sure. And he has deserted common sense for an obssession. This will not be a happy homecoming.
So Elrond thinks he is off the hook. Nothing could be farther from the truth. The Valar or the Fates. whatever have only begun to lay out his future for him. Dream on Lore Master, the wreck of you life hasn't even begun yet.
What a conversation that was. It made me feel as if I was watching a tennis match. A really tense tennis match. Back and forth until my neck hurt. For all the lies, helf truths and diversions his sons have discerned enough of the truth that things are going to be very tough for them all to cope with. Elrond the mighty laid low by a misbegotten elf. Pitiful.

#81 I keep forgetting to put down the numbers. How I expect to keep the chapters straight I don't know.

I was glad for the AN. I already touched on this subject in the last review. Isn't it wonderful when your own creations tell you what to do. Erestor just decided that Legolas was going to be his and Elrond wasn't to have him. All I can say is he had better be good, no he better be excellent. I, like Legolas, worry about Erestor's other two mates. I don't want Legolas to be in a situation where he will feel used or uncomfortable. I want him to be the one and only, the prize prince, the absolute love of whoever he binds with.
This was another OMG chapter. It is a good thing elves have such great stamina and recuperative powers. Even with all that these two have pushed things a little to far and need some rest.
I did like Erestor helping him to understand that Legolas is worthwhile, capable of love and loving. Malthen did not have the prince's best interests at heart. I know Malthen is really tortured about this now but the damage is done and can't be undone by Malthen.
I was very sad to think of the poor youngling being so mistreated. Talk about child abuse. No one to explain the facts of life to him. I am amazed that he didn't fade from grief. If he is like Oropher, then that king must have been strong as an ox, hard as nails and tough as old shoe leather.
I liked the epithet, Sweet Tormentor for Erestor. Physically and Mentally he is making Legolas go throught his torment so he can heal. Hopefully this will strengthen Legolas even more for what is to come. None of this will be easy. At least he will have Erestor on his side.

YAY! An update! About time :P *unobtrusively hides unfinished copies of Trouble with Dragons and Two Worlds behind back* About time, indeed! Wonderful, as usual. Hey, when can we expect a new chapter of Legolas and the Balrog? (I know, I'm a pest :P). SO... how have you been?

Part of the healing, cleansing process will be the loosening of the hold the lash has over him. So Rochendil (I can spell that name) has always hated Legolas. That is interesting. I am sure someone knows why. HMMM. That lousy excuse for an elf drugged and raped Legolas. Has everyone in that stupid army gotten a piece of the prince. He never gets a break does he?
I was so sad over the litany of scars and wounds as Erestor kissed them to make them better but I got tears in my eyes when Legolas began to open up about the lash marks and the attempted suicide he endured. Also the beating that the elves gave him to hurry his death. If Erestor hurts Legolas in any way I hope you have a troll spit him over a fire and then eat him. Erestor, not Legolas. My pronouns weren't clear.
Legolas needs a psychiatrist or a lot of love. I'm sure by the end of this tale (this epic tale) he will be acknowledged as the noble elf that he is. I'm not sure if all he has at that time will be enough to make up for such a terrible youth. He will rise above all the self hate, pain, angst and misery to salvation. He is already far more noble than most of the elves he has dealt with. And that list includes Elrond and Erestor. I am still not really happy with Erestor.
    Great chapter. I loved it.

I always enjoy your descriptions of the natural wonders of Tawar and Arda. So lovely. Such a contrast to your scheming elves.
The hammock sounds lovely. Just the place to take a nice book and read. Although I don't think literature is on the elves minds tonight.
I was wondering for a moment as to who as touching whom. Then we started into another OMG chapter.
I thought this tale was going to be Elrond/Legolas in the end. We woud have one of those star crossed lovers with lots of apin. hurt comfort and angst. Learning on both sides as to love and letting go and being healed by the poiwer of love. So having Erestor binding with Legolas is surprising. It has been a long time since I have read this in its entirety so I may have missed the clues. Sometimes a story just takes a U-turn and we get some new scenery.
I am glad that Erestor is going to try to get Legolas to open up and then heal. The prince will never by whole until he faces all that has happened to him. Maybe this isn't the best time since so many are ready to rip him to shreds but we will see.

OOh this was a good one. Lies, half truths, gossip, slander. This so reminds me of Rome during the time of the Ceasar's. Such a perilous time to live if you had any noble blood at all.
Well I was a little put out at the lovely fairy tale and the nice big fat ruby. Legolas treated like a dog and these two treated like the prince and princess that they are. My blood boiled. This I put at Thranduil's feet. Any elfling should be accorded the dignity of help and comfort but not the king's son.
The vocal two step; two opponents feinting and circling. So we will get the truth at last. Or not. Meril is the king's foe in this coversation. She doesn't want the truth. She wants fog and darkness to hide her part in all this mess. Trying to get the truth from Meril in this scene is like pulling hen's teeth. Only if it strengthens her position is she going to let loose of some information. The king has had a lot of experience in this kind of conversation between alllies and foes so he will at least discern when the truth is there and when it veers off course. I thought the lovely eyes all full of huge crocodile tears was good. She is scared and it shows. Isn't it interesting that she tries to shield Lindcalon so much and yet she herself has set him up for every loss and heartache he has had so far. The loss of his father, being in the stronghold with someone he despises, having a career he hates and trying to protect his "brother" and his siblings from pain. Yet she is the one bringing the pain. What a selfish hypocrite she is.
The cross coversation was great. She didn't know that her piece of nasty gossip would hit the king like a ton of brick. He has a lot to answer for and Legolas treatment isn't the least of it. I don't think this king every thinks he is going to Aman and have to pay for his sins. He will want to stay right here and have his illusion of a dynasty. The elves time is almost up and his illusions will fade along with his woods.
She truly loved Valtamar. Be careful Thranduil. Let this be a warning. If she decides that you stand in the way of her children you too will be history. All she wants is to be Queen Consort, have her son with Valtamar be a prince and then have her second son be a king on a throne. If Thranduil steps out of line then he could be for the chopping block just like her first mate. Black widow indeed. She would mate with an orc or an ogre if it meant getting what she wants for her children. I wonder if love sick Thranduil will ever figure this part of her personality out.
It is difficult to get a real feel for the truth here. Is this an outright lie or just a half truth? Is she blaming elves that aren't around to get out of a sticky situation or is this a desperate attempt to deflect any attention she might get for this? Time will tell what the author has up her sleeve. I did like the king realizing that they are two of a kind. She is so similar to him and how he acts and reacts. He can't condem her, that would be condeming himself. He is in a real quandry now. Does he believe his wife, who is such a good liar or does he try to find out the truth of the situation. Even if it will condem her even more. Wonder and worry. I giggle gleefully over this. Rubbing my hands together and hoping for a real pay back.

Well, now that aff is back on track and Real Life has eased it's nasty clutch on me I am going to try to catch up again. The only problem this time is when aff crashed stories were gobsmacked. I will be reading along nicely and then there will be a bunch of junk letters and I have to figure out what you were trying to say. That slows me down. Let's give this a try though.

I really enjoyed Thranduil and Meril being on the outs. It is so nice to see her annoyed and thinking she can weasel her way to the top again. I do hope Gwileth gets her way and Legolas gets to come and have tea. That would just frost Meril.
I really did like the idea of Meril watching and waiting to assess the forces she can count on and on the foes ranked against her before she strikes. Thranduil's first wife was all talk and no real substance but this wife is another matter entirely. If the king was grieved by his first marriage this one could easily break his heart. Oh I hope so, these two so deserve all the misery they bring each other. I will enjoy watching that.
Wonder and worry. Yes the king is, but so does Meril. Do you watch, wonder and worry also? HA.
Legolas did want to see his siblings that badly. The king really underestimates him doesn't he? If the tunnels are to be used for escape then why don't all the elves know about them. They need to have orc drills or something. Practice once a century at least.
Obstinate male. Is this the pot calling the kettle black? She has no idea what she could really be up against. I think the king is the rock and she is the hard place and the whole kingdom is caught between these two. If they continue the entire kingdom could be crushed. I don't think Thranduil would let that happen.
Well let's leave them at loggerheads and continue to the gossip. Meril seems to realize that even her old time friend may not be totally faithful to her anymore. The ranks of her allies grows thin. Don't we love that.
She is so stubborn that she is going to do more damage that anyone or anything else. Can't wait till she gets her come-up-ance. IWe can't hurt the elflings so it won't be public but it can be private and really tough on her. HA

EEK! where do I *begin*? Another splendid chapter. One that answered some questions. Winding down??? Not really something I wanna hear, lol. Ooh! If Feud is ending...I've read some really great fics featuring Elrohir/Legolas. :;gets down on knees:: Would u consider writng one centering around that couple? There is so little known about him that he is almost an oc. He's got the basic background info but there is practically nothing said about his personality. Elrohir has been portrayed as extremely loyal and unswervingly steadfast in his unconditional love for Legolas in Imladris and Greenleaf. I loved that. But I think I'd love anything you'd come up with regarding those two.

LOL. But back to this story. You've indicated that Legolas knows what Thranny's second (bastard of a) wife is hiding. What *is* it? Did I miss her confession out there somewhere? Was what she said to Thranduil the full extent of it all? Will you punish her as she so richly deserves?? (You do have a malicious bone in you body don't you? After all, you just said that you'll be leaving us with a cliff-hanger on virtually every subsequent chapter...) Will Thranduil ever reclaim his hum---elfanity??

I think its absolutely sad that Legolas' uncles had shown him more compassion in the brief time they had known him than his father has had all his life. In that fleeting encounter, they saw his worth.
You don't have any plans to tell us how the two little kids grow up, do you? How their relationship or lack thereof with legolas developes?
Do u have a mailing/notification list? Do u plan on returning to ff.net, or have you given it up? I'd get emails if you update there...

I'm not usually a reviewer but I make exceptions for the stories I enjoy most and yours is definitly one of them! I think your portayal of the different characters is amazing. You made me care about your OC, as if I knew of them as long as I have the Tolkien's ones. You are truly gifted and I await the next chapter impatiently!
I too, like others have said, like very much the way you portrayed the twins in this story.Their reaction to the discovery of their father's actions is very just.
I sense two things going on with them: first, their horror about the extent of malignence employed by Elrond in his pursuit of Legolas; but IMO they would have feel (almost) the same thing had the culprit been any other elf. Second there is always that disgust when a child think about one's parent sexuality.Gross! And it is about thinking of a "normal" sexual relationship between loving individuals not the degrading and hurtful one Elrond impose upon Legolas. No wonder the twins would feel torn and betrayed!
I also love Erestor in this. He redeem himself quite wonderfully in my eyes! I am anxious to see how everything will play out once he is awake. And Trandhuil? He deserve a couple of blows to the head from Radagast's staff! Perhaps it would knock some sense into him.
But enough with my ramblings! Please update soon and be asured that I will be there reading eagerly!
A humble fan of your work,
    Diane

OOOOOOMG! EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!! WHen are you next updating! Its sooooo hard to read this!!! Its hurts when you reach the end! Ugh! frustration to the extreme. Reallly. Perhaps you shouldn't make it so damned good. Its be easier to take!

But LOVE it. Really, you have me cursing thranduil out loud (and I mean strings!), shivering in disgust (of his treatment towards his son), of his new wife (the bastard!! marrying another one too!). BTW, what happened to Legolas??? Anyways, (see how bad you've affected me? My thoughts are just as discobobulated as that crowd!!) ....UPDATE!!!

How many chapters do you think are left in this? Please say another 100. Or at least 30 more. I'd die if this is to end any time soon.

AND WHY DID U GET KNOCKED OFF FF.net AGAIN???? HERE I was, waiting for you to update, thinking that perhaps you've left us hanging! Good thing, a friend of mine searched for your fic and found it here!! Really, though, it must be because of jealousy. I've only seen perhaps one or two other fics in which the (human/elf) emotions/pysche is explored to such a scale, and whose plot is so richly developed. Truly, despite some possible disagreeable content, this fic in its entire is a crime to delete.

    Caio!
I'm off to check that other fic which Features Lil'las and a nice Thrandy! (what do u have against Thranduil loving his mother anyways?)

Did you have any idea that this was where you would end up when you started this fic. it seemed so natural a progression through all of hte many trials and tribulations of a young elf's tortured life. He seemed so innocent when this all began. And now nearly 100 chapters... unbelievable.
I had almost forgiven Thranduil before these chapters. And now, as soon as he sees weakness, he is exploiting again. wheedling for his own life, playing the crowd for support. He's nothing but a bully, just like his father was. I really despise him. he deserves no mercy. Let the trapped souls feed upon him before they are freed. I could care no less.
I do fear for Legolas, though. He is injured and in a place he has long feared. Get him out of there soon please!
